Remember that in order to fully submit your application, you will need to submit three parts.
That's 1) The Basic App, 2) The Application Supplement and 3) $60 application fee. After all of that is submitted, you should receive and email from us (UVA) that includes information about your Student Information System Account.

If not Spring, then Fall?
This is a reminder for students who were not offered for Spring 2010 and would like to be reconsidered for Fall 2011 transfer admission. Unfortunately, this option is not available to students who are in their 2nd semester, junior year of a bachelors-degree seeking (meaning this rule does not apply to community college students) program. It is the end of the line for you and we would encourage you to check out some of UVA's after you graduate in a year's time.
If you seek to be reconsidered. You must:
1) Tell us. We will not do this for you automatically. Send an email to undergradadmission@virginia.edu and asked to be "Rolled Over" for Fall 2011 review.
2) Send us a transcript that includes your Fall 2010 grades if you were in school at that time (see address on sidebar)
3) Email us a list of your current Spring 2011 courses and course descriptions to undergradadmission@virginia.edu.
Decisions will be released by May 1, 2011.

Transfer Information Session
We will host our biannual transfer session on Friday, February 18. If you attended the open house in November, this will be a repeat for you and therefore you do not need to attend.
The Transfer Information Session will be at 10AM in the Newcomb Hall Theater. A tour will leave from there at 11am. We hope to have a small current student panel of students who transferred to UVA in the past.
TO REGISTER for this event, go to https://virginia-uga.edu.185r.net/Event/ and click on "Transfer Student."
We encourage you to stick around and visit classes or go to a dining hall or restaurant in the area.
You can also go on tours given by specific schools.

Let's recap
The Common Application is a wonderful one-stop place for you to apply to multiple schools. Because it is a general application, there are some things that we can't control or take down. We are not as strict about the "School Forms" Section you'll find in your app.
Just to recap...
1) The College Official's Report is NOT REQUIRED
2) The Secondary School Report is NOT REQUIRED
3) The Mid Year Report is NOT REQUIRED
4) The instructor recommendation is RECOMMENEDED, but it cannot be sent through CommonApp. This can be printed and given to person giving you a recommendation. They can either mail it or email to our general addresses.
We hope that relieves a little stress in this last month before March 1 :)

Spring Specifics
We received about 320 applications and 13% of applicants were admitted. The in-state/out-of-state ratio was standard at 2/3rds and 1/3rd. These are not vacancies that we have to fill, but a yearly infusion of transfers that are factored into to enrollment numbers each year. This means about 40 students were offered admission.

Spring 2011 Transfer Decisions
All transfer decisions will be posted online tomorrow, November 30 at 5PM EST. Letters will only be mailed (December 1) to students who are offered admission. This is a new move for us and the first time we've done it this way. There is no wait-list process for spring admission. An applicant is either offered or not offered. DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE to ask for your decision on November 30. We will be putting on the finishing touches all day long.
You can check your decisions online from this access point. Entering your UVA Computing ID and Password will get you into your self-service account.
If you've lost the email with this information, contact our help desk at 4help@virginia.edu. We, in the office of admission cannot help you with this issue. You can also call them at (434) 924-HELP. They're available 24 hrs/day.
Good luck everyone!

Spring Applicants: Check your Student Self-Service Page
I am sure I am preaching to the choir here, but please make sure to become familiar with your to-do list on your student self-service page. I'm told that many students are missing particular transcripts. Your to-do list will tell you which transcripts haven't been matched up to your file. Now, granted if you requested a transcript on Nov 1, it might not be in your file yet. But hopefully, it will find it's way there by the end of this week.

Fall Transfer Open House
We often get questions about specific open houses for those who are interested in transferring. We typically have these twice a year. The first for this school year will be on Friday, November 12. You must register and you can do that here: https://virginia-uga.edu.185r.net/Event/.
Make sure you click "Transfer" and that will give you the option to register for the Nov 12 session that starts in the Newcomb Hall Theater.
The program will have three parts:
10:00am -10:45am: Transfer Information Session (tentative student panel planned)
10:45am - Noon: Walking Tour of Grounds
12:15pm - 1:00pm: Individual School Sessions
In the individual school sessions, you'll have the ability to visit the Architecture, Engineering, Education and Commerce schools. A session for the College of Arts and Sciences will take place in the Newcomb Hall Theater.
We encourage you to have lunch on grounds and visit classes on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. Check out the Open Class List for a listing of available courses.
We hope to see you on the 12th!

Don't let this be you
As we near the application deadline and you get excited about applying to your transfer school(s), remember that we (UVA) only take students for the College of Arts and Sciences and Architectural History in January. For those interested in Commerce, Engineering, etc, you'll have to wait until March 1 for the Fall semester deadline. Hopefully, this will alleviate some confusion on your end and extra work (in contacting you) on our end.

Spring Deadline Just Ahead
Is it just me, or does it seem like this semester is speeding by? And just ahead lies the application deadline for the spring semester. You must apply using the Common Application
I just mentioned this a couple of weeks ago, but we only accept applications for the College of Arts and Sciences and Architectural History in the Spring.
We don't accept applications from freshman for the spring semester.
The College Officials Report and Secondary School Report are not required. The Instructor Evaluation or a similar recommendation is recommended.
Our notification date is December 1.

Announcing the Pre-Comm Blog

Let's Look at Majors
While it is important to be aware of the pre-requisites for the schools to which you're applying, it is also helpful to know what to expect once you get here or see if there's more you can take before you transfer. I would encourage everyone to take a look at your area of interest(s).
At this site, you'll find a list of all our majors: http://records.ureg.virginia.edu/content.php?catoid=25&navoid=619
It's up to you to dig a bit deeper and check out the departments' websites. Here are a couple of freebies for you: Biology -- http://www.virginia.edu/biology/undergrad/transferstudents.htm and Economics -- http://artsandsciences.virginia.edu/economics/undergrad/transfer/index.html

Welcome to new readers and welcome back to the old readers,
With the school year starting around the country, it's time we updated the blog for the spring admissions process.
Here are five things you should know:

2)We only review applications for the College of Arts and Sciences and Architectural History.
3)The deadline for all materials to be submitted is November 1
4)If you've applied before, you'll need to fill out a new application.
5)The VCCS Guaranteed Admission Agreement is not applicable for spring.

Wait List is Closed
It has been a long wait on both our end as well as yours, but the transfer wait list is now closed. Your SIS account should show this change today or tomorrow. And so that you have it in writing, letters will go out this week. I know this may come as a disappointment for some of you, but as many of you have said over the last few days, it will allow you to move on and make other plans for this fall. I want to thank you for your questions and assistance with your fellow bloggers. I am hopeful that the camaraderie that one often finds on here continues into the next phase.
Wednesday, June 30, 2010
Please note that the person managing this blog is currently away from the office due to an unexpected emergency. There have been a number of questions regarding the end of waitlist activity. At this time, the waitlist has not been released and will not likely be completed until mid-July. If you have further questions at this time, please direct them to the office of admission at 434-982-3200. Thank you for your continued interest in attending the University of Virginia and have a nice week.

Final Transcripts for Admitted Students
If you are an admitted student, and you're looking to see if we've received the transcript containing your spring grades, please look at your SIS account. We are getting a lot of calls and emails from students wanting us to check this out, but if you're admitted, you can easily tell from your To-Do List. If you have misplaced or can't remember this information, you should contact the 24-hour Help Desk at 434-924-HELP (4357) or 4help@virginia.edu.

Waitlist Update #2
Well, the time has come. A batch of wait list notifications will go out tonight via email. Remember to check the email address you gave us on your application. In due time, your SIS account will reflect this change. Please follow the instructions when it comes to deadlines and procedures. If you are not interested in accepting the offer, let us know. This will help us move along in the process. You will receive a letter in a few days, but you should act upon the offer through your SIS account.
This likely won't be the only day notifications go out, but when we close the wait list at the end of June, everyone will get a letter to say the process is complete.
I will update you with more when I can.
