Spring Transfer Decision Release

The time has come! Transfer admission decisions for the spring 2024 semester will be released this evening (11/28). I don’t know exactly what time, but our team is working hard to make sure they go out.

Once they’re released, you'll be notified via email, and the decision itself will be viewable on your MyUVA Application Portal. Keep in mind: For spring transfer, there is no wait list process (except for the small BSN program cohort). You will either be admitted or not.

Please do not call our office to ask for your decision. We do not give those out over the phone. If you don't remember your portal login information, check your application submission confirmation email.

If you are admitted, you will have until December 15th to accept the offer. If you matriculate, you will receive follow-up steps after the December 15th deadline passes.

We are only able to offer admission to a small number of students for Spring entry, and for this reason, the process is quite competitive. If you were not admitted, you may have the opportunity to "roll over" your application for fall 2024 consideration. For this option, please follow the directions in your online letter.

Thank you for your patience during this extremely busy time of year. We're excited to bring in our small spring transfer cohort next semester, and we look forward to starting on the larger fall 2024 transfer process soon!

Spring Transfer Stats

Here are the stats for the spring 2024 transfer cohort:

College of Arts and Sciences: 450 Applications

Offers: 47 (10.4%)

Accelerated BSN: 57 Applications

Offers: 20 (35%)

I hope this helps detail how extremely competitive the spring transfer process is. Please do not be too discouraged if you were not admitted. We are able to welcome many more students for fall entry (we enroll about 700 students usually then), and we are happy to roll over your spring application for fall consideration if you follow the instructions in your MyUVA Application Portal.

Transfer Waiting List FAQ

Hi Everyone,

We are getting many questions about the transfer waiting list!  While I’m going to do my best to respond to each question individually, I wanted to share more details about what to expect from the waiting list here:

 Transfer Waiting List FAQ:

1.       What does it mean to receive a decision of wait list?

Each year, we get applications from more exceptional students than we have the space to enroll.  We extend the number of admission offers that we believe will fill the space available – but, predicting what college students will choose to do can be a difficult endeavor. The decision of waitlist is offering the opportunity to be considered from the waiting list if we have space to make additional offers.

2.       For waitlisted students, what factors is the committee still considering?

At this point, we have all of the information that we need from you; what we don’t know yet is how many offers we would be able to make.  We will need your final semester grades once they are available, but otherwise the committee will look at the full application holistically, as it does throughout the review, in the waiting list process.

3.       How many students have been admitted from the waiting list historically?  For each of the schools?

Unfortunately, I don’t have individualized data broken up by school and program, but I can share that previous years are not necessarily helpful in predicting future years.  This is especially true for for the many different schools of enrollment in the transfer process, where application numbers can fluctuate from year to year depending on the program.  If you’re interested in being considered from the waiting list, you should opt-in via your applicant portal.  You should get excited about your other options.  And, if we are able to be in touch with you with good news, we will.

4.       When and how will I hear about waiting list decisions?

We will reach out to you via the contact information you provided as part of your application.  Any waiting list offers we are able to make for transfers don’t typically happen until mid-June, but please keep an eye on the email address and phone line you submitted as part of your application during that time period.  We will notify everyone that the waiting list is closed when we are no longer able to make offers.

Fall 2023 Transfer Decision Release and Statistics

Fall 2023 Transfer Admission Release and Statistics:

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for your patience while waiting for our office to finish up the review process for this enrollment cycle. I'm excited to let you all know that we will be releasing decisions electronically tonight.  I don’t know exactly what time, but our team is working hard to make sure they go out. If you applied, you will get a notification saying there is an update to your application status - check your student portal for your decisions!  Please do not call our office to ask for your decision. We do not give those out over the phone. If you don't remember your portal login information, check your application submission confirmation email.

Please pay attention to the deposit deadline and instructions in that notification. If you're waiting for a financial aid award before making your decision, those should be out soon. If you’ve applied for financial aid, make sure that you’ve submitted your FAFSA and CSS profile to UVA, and check your SIS portal to make sure you have completed any items that may be on your to-do list.  We don’t expect you to make the decision without the award information - so in a couple of weeks if you're still waiting on the financial aid package, let us know and we can extend your deadline to deposit.

FAQs:

-If you are waitlisted (or admitted), make sure to send your final spring transcript (if you're currently in courses) as soon as it is available. Waitlist decisions won't go out until June at the earliest.

-If you were denied, do know that this is an extremely competitive process with a limited amount of space - unfortunately the nature of selective admissions is we have to deny (or waitlist) strong candidates every year. If you'll be applying next admission cycle, keep following the course recommendations - those (and/or grades) are almost always the reason a student isn't admitted.

Please feel free to ask questions in the comments on this post. Congratulations on making it through this admission cycle, everyone!
