Hello, Hoos Looking to Transfer!👋
It's the time of year when our Dean of the Day is getting lots of calls about the transfer process for spring admission. Did you know we have a Dean of the Day? This is an admission representative who is available Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., to answer quick questions that our One Stop staff (our great customer service rock stars 🧑🎤🌠) would like to have a Dean address. So, we thought we would do a little question-and-answer-style post to help share some insight into the kinds of questions we're hearing and the information we provide to students.
Q: What do I need to do to transfer to UVA?
A: This could be taken in two ways✌️1) What do I need to do academically to be considered a successful candidate? Or 2) What do I need to do to complete the application process? We'll answer both.
1) To be a strong academic candidate💪 we are looking for overall college success, academic rigor, and completion of the College of Arts and Sciences' transfer course requirements. College of Arts and Sciences specifically, because it's the only school of enrollment that offers spring admission.
Now, how many of you remember our past post 🔙 on the transfer course requirements? If you don't remember, you can find it here. The more of these courses you have completed, or are enrolled in while applying, the more competitive an applicant you may be.

2) To complete the application process we need you to submit the Common App for Transfer💻, request that official college transcripts be sent from any and all institutions where you have earned college credit, and request that your official high school transcript be sent. The application deadline is Thursday, October 1, 2026. 🗓️ You can find a past post on this process here. Please keep in mind that this post was for fall transfer, so the deadline is different, but the process and details are the same.👍
Q: I hear spring transfer is even more competitive—what can I do to stand out?
A: The biggest part of the picture you are presenting to your application readers is your academic record - your courses and grades (👀#️⃣1️⃣⬆️). Aside from that, we are looking to get to know you as a whole person.
Request and have your optional letter of recommendation submitted so we can get to know more about you. Complete the application sections on activities, experiences, and accomplishments🏆. Absolutely answer the statements about your reasons for transferring, what you want to achieve, and how your plan of study relates to your career interests.
We're trying to get to know you. We want to hear your voice🗣️ and learn about the other parts of you, in addition to your academics, that make you who you are.🧩
Q: Will my credits transfer?
A: The Office of Undergraduate Admission does not award transfer credit. Each school of enrollment manages the process of transferring credits. The College of Arts and Sciences provides a transfer credit equivalencies database, where they house previously reviewed courses and list how the class was transferred in, if it was.📃
You can search by your school. Please keep in mind that if you don't see a course listed here, it doesn't mean it won't transfer in - it just may not have been reviewed before.
Q: What else should I do?
A: If you are interested in financial aid 💰, please complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and the CSS Profile. Those applications are due November 1, 2026.
