Final Transcripts for Admitted Students

If you are an admitted student, and you're looking to see if we've received the transcript containing your spring grades, please look at your SIS account. We are getting a lot of calls and emails from students wanting us to check this out, but if you're admitted, you can easily tell from your To-Do List. If you have misplaced or can't remember this information, you should contact the 24-hour Help Desk at 434-924-HELP (4357) or 4help@virginia.edu.

Waitlist Update #2

Well, the time has come. A batch of wait list notifications will go out tonight via email. Remember to check the email address you gave us on your application. In due time, your SIS account will reflect this change. Please follow the instructions when it comes to deadlines and procedures. If you are not interested in accepting the offer, let us know. This will help us move along in the process. You will receive a letter in a few days, but you should act upon the offer through your SIS account.

This likely won't be the only day notifications go out, but when we close the wait list at the end of June, everyone will get a letter to say the process is complete.

Waitlist Update

We are just beginning to move to the waitlist. We expect to take 50-100 students per usual. Most will come from the College of Arts and Sciences. Keep reading.

As we begin to look at files, we are not seeing the final transcripts(including spring grades) that are necessary for aiding us with this process. It is very rare that we would make a final decision on a student without these grades.

No Wait List News Yet

Hello All,

We are still looking at the class and the numbers. I should have information on the status of the wait list at the end of next week. Unfortunately, this is a waiting game. But, we will begin to work on it at the end of the month and will probably continue working on it until late June.

Important Notes

Pleeeease don’t be anonymous. It makes things very confusing on here. After you make your comment and BEFORE you click on that big orange button, click on “Name/URL” and make up and alias for yourself. It is really hard to answer questions when everyone’s name is anonymous.

If you are on the wait list or admitted, be sure to send your final spring transcript when it becomes available. We will not accept unofficial transcripts. They must be official and sealed.

If you applied for financial aid, and you have not received an aid award, make sure to check your to-do list. You might be missing an important document that is holding up your decision.

Revisiting the Offer

Readers,

It has been a crazy couple of days in the office. I promise to get to all of your comments by tomorrow. Here are some topics that seemed to come up a lot in the commentary. Hopefully, most of you have received letters and that should clear up a lot of questions.

Paying your Deposit and Matriculating

You have until May 15th to deposit. Pop-ups have been an issue with payment. Please disable these and you should be set. Once you do this, it takes about 72 hours(and sometimes less) to be fully matriculated. This will allow you to seek out registration for Orientation and Housing.

Financial Aid

There was another cluster of financial aid awards posted yesterday. If you have questions about your package and materials (it does take a few days for Student Financial Services to review the info) you can call them at (434) 982-6000.

Transfer Guide

The College of Arts and Sciences puts out a great guide for new transfers. You can find it here. http://artsandsciences.virginia.edu/college/transfer/index.html

Orientation We do have orientation for transfer students. Most of you will come on July 22 or 23, but Commerce has an extended program that is required if you want to start in the Fall. Those dates are August 18-20.All questions regarding commerce orientation should be directed towards their office. All Orientation questions can be directed towards general Orientation. www.virginia.edu/orientation.

Credit Evaluation

Your school will begin to evaluate credit after you turn in your final grades. That means you need to send them as soon as they become available. This will help you with registering for classes at orientation. As you can imagine this is a long process that probably won’t be completed until the end of June.

Want to take summer classes?

As one of your fellow bloggers found, anyone is welcome to sign up for summer classes. There is a specific office devoted to summer coursework. For more info, go to www.virginia.edu/summer

Housing

I'm not sure of the timing for mailing or releasing housing information, but their website is www.virginia.edu/summer.

Correction on Wait List Button

I apologize for the confusion. I assumed the process would be the same for transfers as it was for first-years whereby they can select to remain on the wait list. I'll look into it and get back to you. For now, there is nothing you need to do to stay on the wait list. You will all be reconsidered.

On Monday, I will attempt to get to all of your questions.

Not Offered Admission?

This is the hardest of all. I wish we didn't have this option, but unfortunately, we are unable to admit all of our applicants. Please be polite and considerate of others' feelings in your commentary if you must write here.

Offered Transfer Admission?

I'd like to create a forum for every decision you might see later today. Please be respectful of your fellow applicants and our office. I will delete comments if necessary. Your status page is pretty basic. A more detailed letter will come to you in the mail in a few days.

Just below your letter are buttons to accept or decline your offer. If you accept, you'll then be instructed to pay the $250 deposit. Only clicking yes will not secure your spot in the class. You will need to pay as well. You can pay with most credit cards(we don't use VISA) or with an e-check. You'll have until May 15 to put down your deposit. If you have decided not to come to UVA, please click the button declining your offer. This will help us in our next phase. I will address questions about housing, orientation and credit evaluation next week.

We were lucky to get all of your applications, but there are always more applications than spots available in the class. Please remember that the decision that comes out this season, no matter what it may be, has nothing to do with your great value as a student and person. Financial Aid

Financial aid offers will be posted for offered students on Monday. I'm not sure of the exact time. This can also be found on your student self-service page. Student Financial Services(SFS) has advanced a bit in that they will not send financial aid awards in the mail. You'll only be able to see them or any necessary documents requested online. I understand that they'll mail more information(payment plan, etc) in the summer after you have deposited.

In order to receive financial aid, you must fill out the FAFSA and the University Financial Aid Application(UFAA).

Decisions will be released after 5pm today (FRIDAY)

Decisions will be released online today after 5pm. Most of the letters will go in the mail today as well. DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE. We will not give out decisions over the phone. And in fact, we are still making decisions as you read this.

You can check your decisions online. You know that very well, but tell your friends who do not read the blog.

The place to go is here where you would next click on SIS Login on the left hand side. Again, using your UVA Computing ID and Password will get you into your self-service account.

In Preparation for May 1

I might be preaching to the choir here, but I wanted to remind you all that you can check your decisions online come May 1. Letters will be mailed as well, but your decision can be viewed on your self-service account. This is not only the place for decisions, but it's where you can view your financial aid award and pay your deposit once you're admitted. Suffice it to say, this is an important place that you should get familiar with before decisions are released. There are a number of the applicants who haven't looked at their account. We sent this email to them yesterday.

Earth Week at UVA

With nail-biting anticipation, we can all feel the anxiety building. May 1 is just around the corner, but until then, I will try and come up with some interesting events going on around Grounds as the semester closes.

For instance, Earth Day is just not enough for us. We are in the midst of Earth WEEK as we get closer to April 22. The University has an entire office devoted to sustainability awareness, be it in the dining halls, recylcing plastics in the residence halls and having more paper conscious offices. The Office of Sustainability is spearheading earth week and there are various mini-events going on in conjunction with it. For more information, check out this link:

To answer some of your other questions, the Guaranteed Agreements only apply to the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering.

The date of release is May 1. I don't foresee it coming out any earlier, but again, I will let you know here.

I think what you've done so far is fine loyal readers, but I would strongly discourage you all from putting personal information up on the blog.

Here's the thing about course descriptions

Just for observation's sake, as we dig in with the transfer applications, we've discovered another reason why we ask you for course descriptions. Many of your colleges do not list Spring 2010 courses on their transcripts. Your current courses are very important because they help us determine how close or far you are from achieving the general ed requirements. If you haven't emailed us yet(especially if your courses are not on your transcript), there's still time. Email catalog descriptions to undergradadmission@virginia.edu

Materials are making their way to your files

You all have been very patient in understanding that materials don't go into your file automatically. We have many diligent employees working to open mail, scan documents, put a name to the document on the system and then link them to your file. You see, everything is electronic. We read your applications on computer screens, like you see in Dean J's post here: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2010/01/feeling-worried.html. So, we have to take the time to make sure everything is complete in it's electronic format before it's "ready to read." That being said, if you ordered your transcript towards the end of February, beginning of March, it came in with hundreds of other documents for your fellow applicants. The good news is (and I spoke to a supervisor in this department yesterday) that the team is almost all caught up on everything that's come into our office. If you know that it's been more than a month since you sent something, you may email our office and we can look into it for you. Please note that such a request will take us 24-72 hours to get back to you. The best email address to use is undergradadmission@virginia.edu. If you got married or divorced at any time in your education career, please alert us to this. Usually, we can pick up on this, but if you it seems to be taking too long for documents to get to your file, that might be the issue.

Coming Soon: The Fall 2010 Deadline

If you're reading this blog, you might be well aware that it's less than two weeks until the deadline on March 1. I just thought I'd post a reminder.

Did you apply for Spring 2010, but you weren't offered admission? You have until March 1 to tell us you would like to be considered for our Fall review. Here are the important things you should know.

If you haven't done so already, you must write to us to tell us you want to be reviewed.

-You can write a letter to us, but in order to insure speedy delivery, you may email us at undergradadmission@virginia.edu. PLEASE put "Transfer Applicant Rollover" in your subject line.
- You must send us your updated transcript. This includes Fall grades if you were in school in the Fall. The postmark deadline is March 1. The address again is UVA Office of Admission, P.O. Box 400160, Charlottesville, VA 22904
-You must also send a list and description of your current classes. You can email these to the same address.
-You do not need to pay or fill out a new application.
-Your SIS account should reflect the Fall 2010 process during the first week of March.
