Offered Admission for Fall 2013

As I said before, your status page is pretty basic.  The admissions deposit which goes towards your  tuition for the first semester is $400.  Below your “letter,” you should see buttons for accepting or declining our offer of admission.  Clicking “YES” will not completely secure your spot in the class. You will need to pay in order to set it in stone.  You can pay with a credit card (we don’t accept VISA) or with an e-check. You’ll have until May 15^th to put down a deposit.  If you decide not to come to UVA, please decline our offer on that same page. This will make for a cleaner wait list phase. 

We do not have admitted students’ days for transfers, but you are welcome to visit before you have to make your decision.  I will address questions about orientation and housing next week.  I’ll also let you know when financial aid awards begin to go out. These are only posted online.

  
**Update:

In order to get the ball rolling, you need to make your deposit of course.  After 72 hours, you’ll be able to take UVA’s responsible computing quiz, set up your email account and register for orientation. I don’t believe housing and dining information will be available until mid-May or June, but ALWAYS keep an eye on your email. Your credits will not be evaluated until pay your deposit and send your final transcript.  Credit evaluation is ongoing until summer orientation. 

It's Almost Time

Later on this afternoon, you should find an announcement email in your inbox. I’m excited to tell you that we’ll be releasing decisions online today at 5pm (EST). This email will not contain your decision. Please keep reading.  

Remember that in order to see your decision, you’ll have to go to your SIS account(after 5pm). See instructions below. All decisions will be posted online, but physical letters will only go out to admitted students.

DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE TO ASK FOR YOUR DECISION. 

Again, to view your decision online, just log into your account in the UVa Student Information System (SIS) using your UVA computing ID and password.  You can access your SIS account and retrieve your password here.  I believe it is still true that you’ll need to scroll down to the bottom of the page the see “View Decision.”

The online decisions give you limited information - Offer, Waitlist or Deny. We do not email decisions.   Detailed information for offered students will come in the mail next week.

Last Reminder for Financial Aid

We really want you to get the aid you deserve.  Finish up those financial aid forms this weekend!

Second Reminder about Financial Aid

We are off to a raring start with transfer review.  I thought I'd take a break to remind you that if you are a permanent resident or u.s. citizen, you are eligible to apply for financial aid.  Once again, the deadline is April 1.  Do it now!  You never know what might happen to you if you wait until March 31. Life tends to get in the way.  We wouldn't want you lose out on important aid.

Just to recap, we require the FAFSA, the CSS Profile, your most recent tax returns and any additional information that Student Financial Services might request.

If you do not do it by April 1, you will lose the opportunity to get earn need-based aid.

Sending Supporting Documents

Readers,

In order to expedite the process of linking, please put your name and date of birth on any materials that you email, mail or fax to us.  Many of you are very organized and you are sending documents ahead of the application.  The only trouble is, it will take us longer to organize your file without your date of birth.  The Course Descriptions documents seem to be causing the most trouble.  If you've already submitted everything, don't worry about it. This is just a strategy to help us do our jobs better.  From here on out, if you're reading this and still have bits and pieces to submit, please add on the good ol' DOB.

Submitting a Complete Application

As you may know, you need to submit three parts in order to complete our entire application.  That's 1) the basic application, 2) the supplement application, 3) the application fee.  We won't see anything on our end until you submit all three parts via www.commonapp.org.  You might think they are linked together, but they are not.  Please be aware of this.  Once these parts are submitted, your common app account should say something to the effect of "Complete."  See below.

Optional Architecture Portfolio

We have very few architecture applicants, but if you are one of them, you have the opportunity to submit a portfolio of your work.  This is not required if you're applying, but it's an ... option. 
These can be submitted electronically and the deadline is March 10.  For more information, please go to http://admission.virginia.edu/admission/arts#  and read the instructions on submitting an electronic version.

Didn't Get In for Spring? Want to try again for Fall?

Quick reminder: If you were not admitted for spring 2013, there is a possibility that you can "roll over" your application for this fall.  You found some limited instructions on this in your electronic letter.  If you would like to be considered, please email undergradadmission@virginia.edu or send us a letter.   Email is faster, so I would recommend going that route.  When you write, put the word "rollover" somewhere in the subject line.   If you would like to switch schools (Commerce, Engineering, Architecture), please include that wish in your letter as well.

Not everyone can do this.  Students who are not eligible for rollover are current juniors attending a four-year university.  Unfortunately, these students are no longer eligible for transfer.  Please check out the main UVA website for information on our graduate programs.

Decisions will be released around May 1 for any rollover student who added in to the fall process.

**Most importantly, you need to send your updated college transcript including your Fall 2012 grades when they become available.  These will be due by March 1, 2013**

Good News! TRANSFER FINANCIAL AID Deadline - April 1

Good news readers,

The financial aid deadline for transfer applicants has been pushed to April 1, 2013. This will allow you more time to fill out your paperwork and do your taxes.  For more information, see the website for Student Financial Services - http://www.virginia.edu/financialaid/enter13-14.php.  The admissions deadline is still March 1. 

Transfer Open House - February 15

Some of you may have received an email from us and some of you may have spotted our website earlier today. Our next open house Friday, February 15 at 10AM.   You will hear from current students and faculty about the application and transition process to UVA. See the schedule below.  The day will begin in the Newcomb Hall Ballroom and progress from there.  Please register for the event here. Read the entire page and then click on "Register" on the bottom left.   This new registration process will instruct you to open a MyUVA account if you don't already have one.

Open House Schedule of Events:

10:00am - 10:45am: Transfer Information Session
11:00am - 11:45am: Presentations Given by Individual Schools
12:00pm: Walking Tour of Grounds

The day should end between 1:30-2PM.

The Firm Financial Aid Deadline

If you plan to apply for financial aid, there is a drop-dead deadline this year.  The deadline, March 1, is always the same as it's been in the past, but this year, if you don't apply by said date, you run the risk of not receiving grants and need-based scholarships.  Remember that only permanent residents and U.S. citizens can apply for aid. Provided you show need, you have just as much access to need-based aid as a first-year applicant.  Two forms are required when applying for aid -- The FAFSA and the CSS Profile.
