The Fall Transfer Open House is this Friday

Some of you may have received an email from us and some of you may have spotted our website earlier this month. Our next open house is this Friday, November 1 at 10AM.   Looks like it will be a beautiful day. You will hear from current students and faculty about the application and transition process to UVA. See the schedule below.  The day will begin in the Newcomb Hall Theater and progress from there.  Please register for the event here. Read the entire page and then click on "Register" on the bottom left.   This registration process will instruct you to open a myUVA account if you don't already have one.

Open House Schedule of Events:

10:00am - 10:45am: Transfer Information Session
11:00am - 11:45am: Presentations Given by Individual Schools
12:00pm: Walking Tour of Grounds
The day should end between 1:30-2PM.
We hope you can join us!

Hi I was wondering if I could get some help regarding the requirements for transferring to the engineering school.
1. I need 4 credits of Physics, next semester I am signed up for 3 and am struggling to find a way to get that last credit hour because we do not have a lab designed for my mechanics course. Is this completely necessary? And what do you suggest?
2. I need 3 credits introducing programming and am having trouble finding a course that fits your needs. Through the transfer credit analyzer I could find no computer programming class that would receive credit. I will be getting smaller doses of programming through mini projects and in my intro to ECE class next semester. Is this sufficient? What should I do?
3. The transfer credit analyzer online for UVA (arts and sciences only perhaps?) does not give credit to one programming class I have found that would fit, and does not give credit to a physics lab I may be able to take. (This lab will go a whole semester beyond what I have learned in the classroom). Any suggestions?.... Thanks a lot for reading

Also I am a first year student at the Villanova School of Engineering.

My SIS account says that my admission decision has been posted and is available for viewing. However, when I try to open it, it is not there. Thoughts? FYI, I am an applicant applying for January 2014 admission.

I'm a first year student at the James Madison University School of Integrated Science and Engineering. Within my first two years here, I plan to take 8 credits of calculus, 4 credits of physics, 4 credits of chemistry, and at least 15 credits of computer science (I'm a CS major).

While fulfilling the requirements for transfer to UVA SEAS, what is the average GPA for accepted transfers to the UVA School of Engineering? Thank you very much for your help!

Hi, I was looking at the transfer credit analyzer and I realized while comparing classes that the subjects were the same but for some of them, the course numbers were the different.
Such as, I am currently taking Chem 1003 this semester. I saw that courses such as Chem 003 would transfer over and I was wondering if Chem 1003 and Chem 003 were the same thing.
I am curious by this because I saw that there were courses such as Chem 1004 and also right underneath it, Chem 004 so I was wondering if it was the same class or two differently classes.
This goes along with a lot of my other classes just missing a number such as a 1 in front of it. so If you could please clarify that would be great!!

Hello,
I had a question about thw transfer requirements. By spring 2014, I'll have met all the requirements except the 2 years (4 semesters) of a foreign language. I'll only have one year completed, but I hope to continue studying after tranferring (I'm a polisci major with a focus in East Asia), and I also hope to study abroad and eventually become fluent and etc. I just didn't have the space in my schedule to do so.
Is not meeting the language requirement a deal breaker? How much will it effect my application decision?

Thanks!

Hi, do more people apply from community colleges or four year universities for the fall semester? Do more freshman or sophomores apply for fall? Thanks!

Dan Russell,
We’ve started reading first-year applications, and the blog has suffered the consequences. I hope you were able to call us and get some answers. Normally, schools teacher the lab associated with your general run-of-the-mill calc-based physics course. You’ll need to take the lab at some point even if it’s in the summer. The analyzer won’t list all transferable coursework, only what someone has transferred into UVA. You should look for the closest course to a Java based program. Small projects won’t work.

Elizabeth,
No decisions are final until we release them.

Nick,
The average GPA is about a 3.5. You might want to include discrete math as well. Please check out this page as well.

Lee,
I don’t know what this means because I don’t know where you’re in school.

Twotwo,
It’s only detrimental if you’re applying under the VCCS Guaranteed Admission Agreement. If not, having started on it puts you in a good place.

Swiftly,
It’s about half and half for both of your questions.
