Decision Notification

As of right now, the decision date is May 1st, just as it says on our website. I will write to you as soon as I know if it will be earlier. It is only April 6. I won't know anything more for a few weeks.

Thanks for your patience! Remember to keep up the hard work where you are now :)

Haha, I saw decision date and got so excited and really nervous...then saw it was still May 1. Less than a month now, guys! Good luck everyone! And thanks for keeping us informed, Transfermer! It makes the process a lot easier and less stressful.

Oh wow I am SO nervous! Thanks for keeping us updated, Transfermer! It is really helpful to know a concrete date!

I am extremely eagar, yet incredibly nervous, for the decision date! Thank you so much for all of the help, Transfermer! Good luck to everyone!

Ha my first reaction was just like Teapot's. Thought this post was about the decision date being moved earlier.

But yeah good luck to everyone. Less than a month to go.

UVa said...

Is this like the First Years where it's a certain time on May 1st or is it just any random time the school feels like doing so on May first?

That's what she said...

To Transfermer:

Does the Admissions Board look at and/or consider improvements in GPA at all? My college grades are significantly better compared to my high school ones, and I was wondering if that counted for anything although high school and college grades are looked at equally for first-year transfers. Please let me know.

Thank you

Kevin Jacokes said...

^I'm interested in the answer as well...for a second-year transfer (rising third-year) are poor high school grades given much clout? And if so, does an increasing trend from high school throughout college help mitigate this?

Sasha said...

Regarding the GPA questions, it only makes sense to consider improvements over time and an upward trend. One could say that such things are a result of learning.

Transfermer,
I sent in my high school transcripts back in February when I turned in my application. It was still on my to-do list so I sent them again last week - they are still on my to-do list though. What should I do?

UVAfan said...

I had the same reaction guys!!
I am so pumped, but extremely nervous all at the same time.

Transfermer: I would also like to know an answer to "that's what she said's" post. Will my mediocre high school grades be looked upon or counted as a lot in respect to my admissions decision??

Thank you sooo much transfermer!! You are awesome!!

Transfermer,

I am in the same boat as anonymous. I am still missing my High School Transcript and SAT scores although I have had my high school send them in three times now. Is the admissions office still linking transcripts to applications?

Thanks

Smiles :) said...

I know I'm not Transfermer, but I remember the answer to the question of GPA that you guys are asking about.

For those of you in your first-year applying as a transfer, high school and college transcripts are looked at equally; if there is an upward trend in your grades at your college institution, this will reflect positively on your decision, but any poor grades received in high school will not be ignored.

For those of you in your second-year applying as a transfer, your high school GPA is not considered equally weighted as your college GPA, since it will have been two years since you were in high school, and your college coursework better reflects how you will do at UVA if accepted as a transfer. Again, if there is improvement in GPA in college for those of you in your second year, this is considered really good (since one would deduce you would continue your upward trend at UVA).

I think I know too much transfer information.

Transfermer said...

UVa,
May 1.

That’s what,
We consider improvement over time, but one semester of good grades won’t necessarily erase four years of mediocre grades. I’ll add that this is not a science. We look at your progress on a case-by-case basis. I think that answers all of your questions.

Anon,
You should email or fax them.

Helpmeplease,
You should email and tell us when you faxed the transcripts. Maybe that will help.

Transfermer,

My SAT scores are still on my To-Do List, but that will not matter because my application is "Technically Complete" without it even though I applied last year and sent them in. I asked his before, but I just wanted to confirm.

Thank you

Blueberry said...

I applied as a senior last year and sent in all the materials, but I sent another high school transcript because you said UVa probably did not have my final grades after final exams. The high school transcript has been removed from my to-do list but my SAT scores still remain. Those were sent from College Board last year.

Should I be worried?

Anonymous said...

Blueberry: check Transfermer's post on SAT scores; there you will find your answer.

Transfermer,

Does each school have their own transfer admissions committee? When we submitted our applications to Undergrad Admissions are the apps. then sent to the various schools commerce, arts&science, engineering, etc. for them to review individually? at this point do the schools then report back their decisions back to undergrad admissions where they then notify us?
Very curious what the process is???

~Thanks

CarrJW said...

Transfermer,

Also, if this is the case where the applications are transfered to one school to another is there a possibility that my application could get lost?

In general, have applications ever gotten lost in the past and therefore never reviewed?? How does the school account for all apps. and how will I know that the school will review not only my app. but all of the supplements that I submitted along with it? (not talking about SAT/HS/College Trans)

How do I remain assured that my app. & supplements will end up where they need to go and in the right hands?

Thank you Transey Pooh, you da Bomb.hehe.

Transfermer,
I'm sorry if you've addressed this already, but I just want to be clear. As of now, our decisions will show up online May 1 and then a letter will follow - is that correct?

Okay said...

Are we allowed to come down to UVA and sit in on classes? How can we set this up?

Curious said...

Dear Transfermer:

How's the transfer applicant pool looking so far? Is there any way to answer this question? How much weight do extracurricular and teacher recommendations hold?

Thank you for answering all of our questions. I think I check this blog more often than I check facebook.

nervouswreck said...

AH it is about three weeks away from decision time... yet my HS Transcript and SAT have not been taken off my SIS page!! Anyone else?!? I emailed admissions and they said that they'd e-mail me if they were missing anything... starting to get nervous.

katydid said...

curious --
that's funny, i think i do too...lol

CarrJW said...

Hey Teapot,

I saw a link on the other page of things to do before graduating from uva and one of them was "order a crepe from The Flat." Reminded me of the mention of Crepes posted earlier on the transfer blogs! YUM.

Sasha said...

Oh yes, crepes. I'm adding vanilla extract and a hint of cinnamon to the batter as well.

Try this too, just melt down some strawberries, really getting the juices out (best with organic strawberries, or at least clearly legit ones, not the huge strawberries that are really just big because they're bursting with water). then add that juice to the last bit of batter. Adding it to all the batter will just disperse it to the point that you can't taste. Apparently apple juice isn't a bad add either, half apple juice, half water, that is.

TeapotMonarch said...

I believe I've asked this before, but I saw somewhere on the website (at least I thought I did) a contradictory answer. I'm planning on taking a course this summer that will fulfill a gen-ed for UVA. I was looking at Art History (Art Appreciation, etc.). Would that count towards the fine arts (in the humanities) requirement? If not, I was going to take either a science or religion course. Thanks for all you do!

Anonymous said...

I am SOOOOOO anxious to find out if I was accepted!!!! My page says that everything is completed... these next days are going to be the longest 22 days of my life!!! haha :)

Good luck to everyone!

Anonymous said...

You have to be more optimistic, as of right now there are only 21 days, 11 hours, 18 minutes and 20, 19 ,18...seconds....

MG said...

I have contacted the College Board three times now, and was told that my scores had been mailed to the admission's office. This is still listed on my "to do" list. What should I do? My test scores are over ten years old.

Thank you for your time.

CarrJW said...

Collins...I know!!! Ahhhhh The suspense!!

Now we play...the waiting game.

I would just like to say how much I've enjoyed reading the transfer blog. Transfermer is awesome, but what I enjoy even most is seeing what all the other transfer applicants have to say. I think you guys are all great people; your comments are positive, respectful and mature. I hope everyone is happy with their decision come May 1st* and that I may someday see you guys at UVA!

Rollinova N. Over said...

Transfermer,
If a rollover applicant has asked to be considered for more than one college will it show up on SIS as two completed applications or just the one college of the initial application?

Thanks,
Rollinova N. Over

I agree with A.Collins and CarrJW that the next couple of weeks will be anxiety o' plenty as exams approach, and I also agree completely with Smiles- well spoken.

CarrJW said...

Yay Smiles!

We can all eat crepes on the lawn!!!! :)

CarrJW said...

Hey Everyone,

We should start a UVA transfer page on facebook and chat there also...except I dont know how to set that up!ha,.

And is anyone willing to make the facebook group?

CarrJW said...

OK GUYS...FACEBOOK PAGE IS UP!! I still have to upload a picture but you should be able to find it under "UVA Transfers." Know us though we will probably just revert back to this blog.ha.

WAHOOWHA EVERYONE!

When I logged in today, it said my decision was ready (the check mark was up under View Decision), but when I clicked on it, it said decisions will not be available until May 1. Does this mean my decision is indeed ready, and if so, why can't I see it now? I'm really anxious about this...

Able Yang said...

Mary,I have the same situation and the same question...Also extremely anxious...

Blueberry said...

OMG...

You two are SO lucky !

Mine still says incomplete and I know they have all my materials!

Anonymous said...

Mine says that a decision has been made as well! Good luck to everyone! I can't wait to see what it says!

uvauvauvaUVA!!! said...

I guess decisions for some of you are made and some of you aren't. It seems a bit too early though...

Good luck to everyone~! In just couple of weeks, it's either smile or frown :D

Lemon said...

"Ready" indicates that SIS has all the material from your application including SAT scores. If scores or high school transcripts were waived those will remain flagged as incomplete in SIS. Simply ignore that.

"Ready" does not mean that UVA has reached a decision on your application.

Do you remember what he said...

To Lemon:

There are applicants whose current statuses read "View Decision". Just letting you know.

Sud said...

Mine says "View Decision" as well, but it still says "Standardized Test Scores" under my To-Do List. I guess a decision has been made, but we'll have to wait till May 1st, or an earlier date if we're lucky. This is pretty exciting.

Quilty said...

Just post the decisions already!

TeapotMonarch said...

My friend just texted me to tell me that view decision is up for some people. I'm so anxious!

Smiles :) said...

I wonder what this means! Are they finishing our decisions sooner than they usually do? Will we find out even earlier than April 25th (that was the early notification date last year)? I really hope it's the second one, because the sooner I find out my decision, the sooner I can plan my summer/the next school year.

An important question just came to mind. If we are notified early of our decision, and we are accepted into the university, is the date for the deposit still May 15?

Anonymous said...

yea..my sis says "view decision" too. oh the anticipation is killing me.

worried said...

Transfermer and all,

Does View Decision Tab really mean a decision has been reached on each of our respective applications? I certainly hope not because on my to-do list it still says that I am missing my Official High School Transcript and SAT Scores. Both items I have sent three times now . . . I e-mailed admissions and all they could tell me was to wait and they'd contact me if anything is missing. I sent those two items back in January . . . still not linked to my application by now? That worries me. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Anonymous said...

Worried: maybe they received your h.s. transcript and sat scored viewed it while making your decision, but they're just so busy they haven't updated your SIS to say that it's been received.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone applied under the guaranteed admissions agreement?

Blueberry said...

I applied under the GAA, but I'm still anxious regardless.

uvauvauvaUVA!!! said...

I didn't apply under G.A.A, but I hold a.s degree with strong G.P.A :D

I wonder if they made decision on my application yet... man this is the longest 30 days ever!!!

Not CC student said...

If you're applying under the GAA, aren't you.. guaranteed admission..?

Zach said...

Yeah mine has the decision notification button up now too! Ahhh!!

Kevin Jacokes said...

my application is complete, i'm applying under the gaa and can't see the check mark yet.

anyone else that hasn't seen the check mark?

UVA Transfer said...

Not CC student,

You have to have completed all the parts of the GAA in order to be automatically in. Something like 75% of people who try to apply with it haven't done all the work for it.

Blueberry said...

Well, I took all the classes GAA required and have the GPA, but I'm still paranoid that I might have missed something.

Transfermer said...

CarrJW,
Applications are read by the admissions committee which is composed of representatives from all of the schools and our office. Your application is electronic. All paper materials are scanned into an electronic file. It really can’t be lost.

Yes, UVA4Me, a letter will go out as well. I don’t think I’ve mentioned that for a while.

Okay,
This website will give you information on attending a class.
http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/classes.html
You might want to send an email to the professor. You wouldn’t want to visit a class that’s taking an end of semester test.

Curious,
We are working hard, hence my recent absence from the blog. That’s all I can tell you. I can’t put a percentage on how much weight we give to recommendations and extracurriculars, but they are certainly a part of the review process.

Nervouswreck,
If you’ve sent them more than once, email undergradadmission@virginia.edu and write that Transfermer sent you.

Teapot,
Art History is odd because it’s not really like drawing or drama, but it’s certainly not literature, philosophy or religious studies, so I would put it in the fine arts corner.

MG,
See what I wrote to nervouswreck. I’ve heard there have been issues connecting the intake of information to your to-do lists.

Rollinova,
It’s just one application. The letter should specify the school to which you’ve been admitted.

Smiles on 4/11, 10:46AM,
It’s possible that we might give you a ten-day turnaround from the time you receive the letter in the mail. This will be specified on both the online letter and physical letter.

Worried,
See my comments to nervouswreck and MG.

We’re finding that a lot of students think they have the GAA, but they are missing one or two courses, they didn’t take the SAT/ACT, etc, etc. I think people are more informed this year, so we might have a few more who qualify, but many applicants check it because they are graduating with their associates, and that’s not quite enough.
To scan the GAA for the College of Arts and Sciences again, go to http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/documents/Collegearticulationagreement.pdf

UVA Transfer said...

Transfermer, thanks for clarifying the GAA once again. A lot of people I speak to think that all you need is an AA and you're qualified for the GAA, but obviously that is extremely untrue. Combine that with the many people who don't take a non-western perspective course and you have a big mess of confusion.

As you can tell I've been around the block a few times with the GAA ;]

TeapotMonarch said...

Thanks again, Transfermer!
