On the Waiting List for fall 2012?

You may use this post as an umbrella to make comments or questions about the wait list.

If you are interested in staying on the wait list, pretty please make sure you click the button to “remain on the wait list.”  If you don’t do this, we will not review you again in the future.

After the admissions deposit deadline of May 15, we’ll begin to look to see how many students we can take off the wait list. These numbers vary from year to year and unfortunately, it can be a long process.  We hope to make our decisions by mid to late June.

Most importantly, we need to see your transcript listing your Spring 2012 grades in order to make a final decision.  Trust me.  You’ll want to do this, but only after exams and after all of your grades have been posted.  To do this, please use the same address that appears on the right panel of this blog.

If you are offered admission from the wait list and need to have financial aid information in order to make your decision, we will work to help you with this.  Again, you can only help yourself by submitting the right paperwork – FAFSA, CSS Profile and tax return information.

So I'm back on the waitlist, is there anything I can do to improve my chances?

JP said...

I'm waitlisted as well. :( Oh well, I was worried that I wouldn't have time to hear back from my other schools before the deposit deadline.. so that's not an issue now!

I got wait-listed under the GAA. Is it true that if I make the GPA requirement, I will definitely get in?

Mike said...

when can we call about our decision?

Saif said...

What percentage of the applicants were put on the waitlist? Actually, a number would be better.

Kev said...

Ah. Nice try, everyone.
It's unfortunate that the reevaluation process will not finish until mid to late June; I am required to respond to other offers by June 1st.
Regardless, I will choose to remain optimistic :)

It is a quite painfull process. Particualrly the decision date being late June. It would be great if we could get more detailed information about admissions yeld and waiting list numbers for this year... However, we ALMOST made it )))

Sparkling Chrysanthemum said...

Indeed we did, "waitlisted". I keep telling myself there is still a chance. We were so close.

Quote from college confidential: "My personal opinion about being wait listed is to accept the fact that you “almost” made it and then get on with the business of enrolling in another quality school. If you get the call from the list, then you have another opportunity to enroll at what might be the right school for you."

Sparkling Chrysanthemum said...

At Anon,

I totally agree, but I don't feel that I am at a quality school. I'm rather bored at my current school and wanted a challenge like the challenge I received from my dual enrollment classes at high school. So in essence, unless I can get off the waitlist, I'm stuck at a second rate institution. (I have so many credits, applying next year would be pointless.)

No matter what, I am still very thankful and grateful to admission staff for providing me with the second chance to be considered. It is a privilege to be a student in one of the best business schools in the world. At the moment no one knows what will happen with the waitlisted candidates until the 15th of March. However, thank you transformer and admissions office for your trust and hard work!

Is it possible if we enroll in another institution in summer, then if accepted into UVA, we start our Fall in UVA since we are applying for Fall? Are we allowed to do that?

To put it another way, I applied UVA as a student in school A, then I transfer to school B where (assume) I get admission from UVA later in June, can I still enroll in UVA?

Ethan Stackpole said...

Any further information or statistics that can be given regarding the waitlist would be greatly appreciated, I am committed to staying on and through the process as there is no other school I would rather go to than UVA.

Is it possible to be wait-listed under the GAA? I'm really confused. My GPA is actually above the 3.4 at the time of application...I wonder why I have been wait-listed at all.

Sadly Confused said...

On Waitlist,

I applied under the GAA too and was placed on the waitlist. I did not have the 3.4 at the time of application but I will have it by the end of this semester. I was also wondering why I was waitlisted and if it was just because of my gpa.

Sadly Confused said...

P.S. I double checked all the requirements and I'm not missing anything.

On Waitlist said...

Sadly Confused
I think if you didn't have the 3.4 GPA, they might be waiting to see your final spring grades. If you make it by the end of this semester, they really should let you in. My question is why AM I on the list if my GPA is already higher than the requirement. And I know that the wait-list is really competitive, what would happen to the GAA people if they indeed fulfill the requirements by the end of the semester? UGH this is so frustrating! Shouldn't this be guaranteed???!

Sadly Confused said...

I wish they would be more clear with the GAA transfers in their decision letter. I remember seeing a post from last years admissions where a person who had completed the GAA was waitlisted on the SIS but when they called the University, was told he was actually accepted. Unfortunately we won't know anything until Monday. More waiting :\

On Waitlist said...

OMG!!! I am sorry, but I can't stand this anymore...this is too much anxiety

Sara said...

Is this the first time to use waitlist for transfers applying for McIntire?

Anonymous said...

Applied to McIntire, transformer can you us know how may people are on the wait list?

Penelope said...

I was wondering why the letter on the SIS account says "The committee will be unable to review your application until early June." However, when you click the I wish to remain on the waiting list button, it diverts you to a different page in which says, "Applicants who remain on the waiting list should expect a decision between the third week in May and in the end of June." I don't really understand this. Is there going to be another wave of decisions coming out after May 15, or are all of these decisions going to come out at the end of June?

hola transfermer :) I have a few questions-

1. how many students were placed on the waitlist this year?

2. would you know how many architecture school applicants were waitlist?

3. does the school you applied to effect your chances of getting off the waitlist? I know the a-school only accepts 5-10 students and if they were to all accept their offers, would that mean none of the a-school waitlisters could get in?

Thanks!

Transfermer, do we still have to meet the financial aid deadline of April 30 or is it extended?

uvanursing said...

1. How many nursing applicants are on the waiting list?
2. How many nursing applicants were accepted off of the waiting list last year?

Thank you

We made it to round 2! So glad I finished this semester with the strongest grades of college so far for me. Hopefully sending the final transcripts is a valuable step!

Waitlist said...

Will it be rolling admission for those on the waitlist if spaces are available? Or do they have to wait all the people on the waitlist to provide their transcript?

gohoosomgihopeigetin said...

I'm on the waitlist. Is there any chance I can switch from the SEAS to CAS? I think I am going to get a B in my programming class. My institution gives only A's, B's, C's, etc...What do I need to do in order for me to look in best possible standing?

Also, I am very involved in my current institution's orchestra and have had rehearsal from 7 - 11 every night for the past 2 weeks. As a result I did not do very well on a test in one of my classes. What should I do? I will work my hardest to bring my grades up with finals coming. On top of that, I am retaking two classes (9 credits total) specifically for UVA because I received AP credit here but will not receive it at UVA (and they are required for my major). I really do want the admissions staff to consider this when reviewing my application. I am specifically taking these classes for admission to UVA.

Also, should I consider retaking the SAT? If my reading score was too low...

Financial aid said...

If our financial aid is postmarked by April 30th will we still be considered? I don't want my financial aid forms to hurt my chances of getting accepted off the wait list.

Transfermer said...

Thank you for your comments. I will do my best to answer your questions by the end of the day today.

LM said...

transfermer, do you think it would be helpful sending in a recommendation, an updated resume, and a letter as to why we should attend UVA in with our spring semester grades or are you guys not taking any new materials?

McIntire said...

Thanks in advance.

How many are waitlisted by McIntire?

hope to Hoo said...

Transfermer - My current school will not have transcripts available untilAfter June 5th. Last year, you posted that 50 names came off the wait list on June 3rd. Does my current school's late exam schedule hurt my chances? I cannot get you spring grades until mid June.

Jajajaja said...

@hope to Hoo

I think the key to your question is whether they use rolling admission for those on the waitlist or not.

Anonymous said...

This is unfortunate news. I have to notify UNC by May 16 and am certainly not willing to risk not having anywhere to go over going to a great second choice school. But to all those who are dissapointed, it's honestly not bad at all to say you got waitlisted at UVA!!

Waitlist said...

Me too. I also have to reply UNC by May 16th but if later I make into UVA, I will just forget about the deposit and head to UVA!!!!!

I feel that the transfermer may have found that there are too many questions to answer.

On Waitlist,
If you didn’t have the GPA at the time of application, please write to remind us of your interest under the GAA. Remember that is more than just the GPA. It’s the SAT, your high school transcript, that outlier of a course – the non-western perspective, or it could be the four semesters or proficiency testing equivalent of a foreign language. Sadly confused, it must have been your GPA.

Mike,
You may have already called, but if not, you can call this week. We will try our best to answer your questions.

Faith,
If I understand your question correctly, yes, you can take summer courses wherever you like. This won’t jeopardize your wait list chances or your ability to start here in the fall if you are offered from the wait list.

Sara,
No, we have a wait list for McIntire every year.

Penelope,
I can see how this would be confusing. As I explained in my second post, we’ll start to look into the wait list in mid-May.

Yeezy,
You are right on #3. It’s determined by your school of application.

Waitlist,
We normally try to release a block of decisions at the same time. That’s why it sometimes takes until June.

Gohoosomg,
You can request this change via email, but the chances are small that the request will be approved. It’s really hard to answer your testing question without knowing specifics and I’d prefer not to do it on the blog. We normally discourage students from taking the SAT again unless the scores are very low.

Financial aid,
Your forms have nothing to do with your admissions chances. We are separate offices.

Hope to Hoo,
It’s tough to say right now. You’ll want to send us your grades as soon as possible. In your note of continued interest, tell us this, and tell us how you are performing in your courses.

UNC Anon and Waitlist,
Congrats on those offers. Please don’t risk giving up a spot elsewhere. If your plan is be in school next Fall, you need to make this happen.

Lastly commenters, thanks for the kind words and the admirable way you support each other.

Thanks Transfermer for answering my question. However, I went back and checked all my credentials and I have everything from the GPA, all of the required courses, SAT's, my non western perspective, foreign language, EVERYTHING. I applied in Spring last year too, so I made sure I had everything. I have already emailed the Admissions office like you told me to indicate my continued interest in being admitted under the GAA.

On Waitlist said...

Is it true that if I have everything finished under the GAA and fulfill the GPA requirements by the end of this semester that I will definitely be admitted? Sorry to sound really obnoxious, but I'm just really anxious and kind of confused. Like I guess I just want to know if it really is guaranteed, because I talked to my adviser at my current VA cc and she said that I have everything.

on waitlist,
just curious.. what math did you take? was it calc or statistics?

On Waitlist said...

I took Calc 1 & calc 2 & Statistics

On Waitlist said...

I took Mult. Var. and Diff EQ. too

Transfermer said...

On Waitlist,
We'll look into it after we receive your letter.

Waitlisted said...

Transfermer,
My final grades won't be in until May 25 from the school I'm currently at. Is that considered late? Should I notify UVA and let them know that and tell them how I'm doing so far? Or is that not too late?

Transfermer said...

Waitlisted,
That's not too, too late, but you can send us an email if that would make you feel comfortable.

James said...

I have!'t applied yet, because I was too scared of rejection. I'm in my last semester with three more classes left. Right now, my GPA is at a 3.4, however I'm sure that I'll finish my associate's from NOVA with a 3.55 cumulative. My first semester didn't go so well because I was just adjusting to life back in the states, as I just finished my service with the Navy. I received a D in a 5 credit class. Is there anything I can do to make myself more competitive when I apply in August?
