Last call to apply for spring semester

Well, not quite, but as you can tell, November 1 is this week! Remember that in order to have a complete application, you will also need to send your SAT or ACT scores, high school and college transcripts as soon as possible. We will notify applicants of their decisions around December 1.

Application Deadline for Spring is fast approaching

If you are planning to apply for the Spring semester, the deadline is coming soon. It's November 1! Remember that the process is very competitive and not all of the programs are available for entrance in the spring. If you are interested in the College of Arts and Sciences, Architectural History or the Nursing school, you may apply for the spring semester. Keep in mind that we receive about 250 applications and admit anywhere from 30-50 people at this time.

Questions about the Essay Topics

If you are applying for the spring semester, you have completed or are probably close to completing your application (wink wink). Yes, let's hope so. Well, some of you answered a question in the transfer supplement a week ago or earlier and may find that it no longer exists. There was a glich in the system that was only allowing the Spring 07 supplement to be visible. We just discovered this last week, and then changed it to Spring 08. Consequently, an essay or two disappeared. If you have already written an essay from the "old" application, don't worry. We will honor this submission and you will not have to write a new essay. We apologize for the confusion. Good luck on your application!

Should I take the SAT or the ACT? What about the TOEFL?

We in the admission office just bid farewell to today's open house visitors. We saw a great group. Let me emphasize that if you couldn't make it, you may visit and/or come to classes at any time. Just check our website for more details.

We covered lots of information and testing is always an important question. Here are some guidelines.

-We do require transfer applicants to take the SAT or the ACT.
-If your native language is not English, you make take the TOEFL in place of the SAT/ACT.
-However, if you have been out of high school for more than five years, we tend to waive the testing requirement.
- If you are a VCCS student and plan on transferring under the guaranteed agreement, you must have a complete application to be eligible. A complete application includes testing. No matter when you graduated from high school, you must take the SAT or ACT, and if your native language is not English, you may take the TOEFL instead.

For transfers, while they are required, test scores play a minor role in the application process. We are looking more at your courses and grades(college and hs). It's important to keep this in mind when considering UVA.

TRANSFER OPEN HOUSE

On Wednesday, October 10, we will be hosting a Transfer Open House for prospective transfer applicants. The morning will start with an optional class visit at 8 or 9am. Students interested in attending a class would meet in Peabody Hall prior to the start of these classes.
If you are going to be attending a class, please send an email to undergradadmission@virginia.edu with TRANSFER CLASS VISIT in the subject line. Please
indicate the time (8 am and/or 9 am) you'd like to attend a class. At 10:15 am we will host a panel discussion on admission to each of our six undergraduate schools. Deans from the admission office as well as Deans from the individual schools here at UVA will discuss admission to UVA as well as academics in each of our undergraduate divisions. Following the information
session/panel at 11:45 representatives from the University Guide Service will take
interested students on a 60 minute tour of the Grounds. Registration for the Open House itself is not required.

We hope you can make it to this special event. It should give all students a good understanding of admissions and academic life at UVA. If you have any questions please let us know or check the transfer website(http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/transfer.html)

Application is Available!

The online application is now available. To begin, go here: https://applyonline.virginia.edu/Admissions/Login/

As a reminder, we do not have rolling admission. Those who apply for Spring 2008 will be notified around December 1.

If you are thinking of applying for Fall 2008, I would suggest applying after you receive your Fall 2007 final grades. Again, the deadline for Fall '08 is March 1, 2008

Applying for Spring?

It's hard to believe, but as you, the future transfer applicants, begin to lock in classes for the fall semester, we are getting questions about transferring in the spring. For January transfer, students can apply to the College of Arts and Sciences, the RN to BSN program in the nursing school, and the architectural history program in the Architecture school. We admit students solely for these programs and not as a stepping stone to transferring in the Fall to other schools. Typically we receive about 250 applications and admit anywhere from 30-40 students.

The online application should be available in the next week or two. The deadline to apply for spring semester is November 1, 2007.

New section on the website!

Just last week, we added an FAQ section to our transfer website. Go to www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/transfer.html and click on the right hand side. There you'll find the answers to questions that we often recieve from you. If you have more questions, please pose them here or email us at undergradadmission@virginia.edu.

So, you've checked out the suggested courses(http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/transferrequirements.html), spotted what will transfer (http://www.web.virginia.edu/ArtsSci/credit/credit_analyzer.asp) and the FAQ. What else would you like to see on our website? We'll be implementing transfer student profiles in the fall and hope to start our own email address. Transfermer is soliciting suggestions for other cool things for the website. So, please enlighten me. We'll see what we can do.

On the way to Fall 2007

Well, it's been a long wait. The calendar has turned to July, and at this point, we have closed the wait list and filled the class. The following statistics will give you and idea of the class. We accepted about 80 students from the wait list. A great majority of those were from the College of Arts and Sciences. Overall, we offered to 37% of the applicants with a yield of 72%. About 73% of the students who are enrolling are from Virginia. 44% were enrolled in the Virginia Community College System. A little under half are rising second year students. 43 students are international. On the whole, the group of 586 is half female, half male.

If you have been admitted, please be sure to send us your spring grades as soon as possible. This will make orientation a smooth and stress free process.

Getting the word out to Virginia Community Colleges

This summer, the deans and counselors are making a concerted effort to meet with the administrators and counselors of many community colleges around the state. So far, these meetings have been very productive and both sides are very happy to see each other. The biggest topic discussed is our Guaranteed Admission Agreement between Va Community Colleges and UVA. See here: http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/docs/agreement.doc But in addition to the agreement, we are meeting to see how we can increase communication between both parties, and of course, you, our applicants!

The Transfer Wait List

Hello All,

Sorry you haven't heard from me in a while. We will be going to the wait list for all of the schools with the exception of the Architecture and Education schools. I know this is unfortunate news for many of you, but with so few spots and so many great candidates, it is difficult to go to the wait list for these schools.

We expect to take 50-75 students off of the waitlist for the other schools. The majority will come come from the "College(College of Arts and Sciences)" or the E(ngineering) School.

We hope to mail these letters with the next 7-10 days.

First Transfer Post!

Hello Everyone,

Due to the great feedback we’ve received from our other blogs -- Notes from Peabody, and AccessUVA, we’ve ventured to begin a blog for transfer admission information. As you can see, it will be called "Transferring to UVA" and I am Transfermer. Yes, that's right. I've spent two years reading transfer applications and I'm a 2004 graduate. For two of my four years, I lived with transfer students. While I wasn't a transfer myself, I feel those experiences will help me shed some light on the the adjustment process. I'll use the blog to write on transfer information in the office and the University. And as Dean J has done, I will touch on life at UVA and Charlottesville.

Look out for new posts very soon!
