Not offered admission?

It is most certainly a hard task to make a place for this, but as a selective institution, we cannot possibly admit all of our great applicants.  Please be considerate of each other’s feelings, emotions, reactions and the like.  We do not have an appeals process, but depending upon the length of time you have been in school, you may be eligible to apply again in the future.

Got rejected. It is really hard for out-state transfer applicants to get in. So sad now...

Rejected. In state. My parents are angry about paying all those state taxes and getting nothing for it. Virginia doesn't take care of it's own like UNC does. Not sure what I'll do next.

Your parents have nothing to be angry about. They might pay taxes but that doesn't justify letting any VA resident into the school. There are lots of other Virginia Public Colleges that also receive aid from taxes.

Rejected OOS. Applied as a freshman from WashU.
I've busted my ass here, here being an especially academically rigorous school, so that I could transfer to UVA, only for me to get rejected a second time.
I'm really shocked. I wish I could've at least been waitlisted.

I feel you all too well, RDN. Third time applying. I've sweated and cried and just short of bled all over my academics, my application, my essays for the last three years, and before that, through high school. Even went and got an A in a science class (and I'm a liberal arts major) last summer at UVa, on grounds, in the heat...

I'm applying again. I will not be disuaded. Anything else would be a metaphorical death, and I'd rather apply until I physically die than give up. Everyone thinks I'm crazy, but I've got one life, and I'm living it my way.

It's worst if you read the rejection letter all the way through. I learned that after the second time. With each word, it feels like they're hammering an iron stake into my heart.

I'm only expressing the truth.

Oh, I have a question!

Transfermer, if you'd be so kind, could you tell me if there's any limit to a number of times a person can apply? Theoretically, if a person wants to apply 20 times, as long as they don't exceed the 60 credit thing, is there anything on the university's end that could stop them? There's...not some "rule" that you just get dumped in the trash after three times or something, right? Cause I'm more than ready for round four. Thanks in advance!

I will do my best to answer your questions by the end of the day today.

About the tax issue - yes, there are many schools in Virginia that receive taxpayer dollars. The point is that the so called flagship schools like UVA, William and Mary, VT and JMU are taking more international and out of state students to make up for cuts in state funding. The state of NC gives a more generous amount to its public schools, so they don't have to take as many out of states and internationals. Virginia is tighter with its funding, which leaves all the state schools - not just the top ranked ones - scrambling to make up the funding. I probably will transfer to an in state school at some point. I might try to VCU or JMU and roll over my UVA application. This was my first time applying so I'm not too discouraged. In the meantime, tell everyone you know to call or write their state reps and ask for more funding for all of the state schools.

@PL
You're not crazy! I agree with you. This was my first time applying to UVA and I'm disappointed I didn't get in, but I will not give up. UVA is my dream school and no matter what anyone says, I will keep trying until I get in. You do have one life and if this is something you really want, don't give up, just push forward. I wish you all the best!

bina,

Yes, fight on! I had a 2.0 my first semester because of circumstances that were out of my control (being at a huge party school where my roommate smoked pot and had people over EVERY NIGHT, ALL NIGHT, and when I tried to get a room change, RAs and housing did NOTHING [the memory still irks me terribly]). Try being in a lecture every morning at 8:00 with that going on. God, that school was terrible... So, and to put it bluntly to the point of being crude, I got robbed big time and a lot of unfair crap has happened, but hard work and determination can make (hopefully good) things happen. Anyway, I clawed my way out of THAT situation and NOW I've climbed to a 3.2, I believe. I'm out of state and I really haven't been expecting much, but just a spot on the waitlist would have been leaps and bounds better than before. Even if I wasn't pulled and I couldn't go this fall, it would have done miracles for my psyche. The dominant emotion for quite some time has been overwhelming frustration, but when I think of giving up and going back to a place like my first school, or just going to some local college, it kind of makes me sick. I have a vision and it's not going anywhere!

Don't give up! We can do it!

PL,
This depends on your school of interest at UVA the school in which you are currently enrolled. In most schools, we do not admit students are who are rising seniors at four-year institutions. I worry about the interpretation of the 60 credit “rule.” Our admission policies are less about credit and more about full-time semesters in four-year institutions. Even if you slow to a crawl and begin to take one or two courses to avoid encroaching on the 60 credits, it doesn’t make you more competitive. If you’re in a community college where you just can’t become that A/B student, you have to look at your goals and your time to see if applying “five or six times” is really worth it.

Regarding state taxes...
It’s true that UVA only receives 7 or 8% of it's funding from the state government, but I want it to be clear that our student body is still comprised of around two-thirds Virginia residents and one-third from out of state.

A question for Transfermer:
If I decided to take the one class that would satisfy my foreign language requirement (Spanish 2020), does it matter what learning environment the class takes place in?
I'm choosing between a community college web-course and a classroom course at a local university, both are the same class and both for 3 credits each.
And then I would be applying as a McIntire applicant third-year.

Gonna be transferring in as a Junior, is anyone else?

Two thirds of UVA students are from out of state. I believe the number at UNC is closer to 10% or 15% out of state. 33 1/3% is too high for a state school, but I understand why UVA and the other state schools take so many out of state and international kids. The state of VA only funds 7 or 8% of the school's budget. Please contact your VA legislators and ask them to give more funding to state schools so that more in state students can attend.

Please dont ask them to change it, as UVA's academic reputation would suffer if they had to take what UNC does

Im a freshman at NAU. I had a 2.73 in high school, with a 21 ACT (Orange County) & I'm dyslexic and have been to 14 schools.
If i get a 3.45 or 3.5 GPA my freshman year at NAU and apply for this coming 2014 fall, what are my changes? should i get my hopes up or is the competition a little higher up, like 3.6's. I need to know if i should have back up options or get excited.
