Not Offered Admission?

I don't get it! How was I waitlisted with a 4.0 my first semester. I had a 4.2 in high school with every honor and every office!

Anonymous said...

i hate the waitlist game...

Anonymous said...

Don't worry...at least you were wait-listed. I was not even offered that much.

I think I was a good candidate for the School of Commerce with a lot of good credentials. Oh well, now I won't have to a pay a ridiculously high out of state tuition rate. I've been accepted into another good university.

lol the first poster got owned

Not offered...Oh well, I still got into UNC-Chapel Hill which is still in the top 5 Public Universities in the Nation.

I am going to to use the stones to throw at other individuals.

you're right. nice quote. it just sucks, is all.

I didn't get in, I was definitely crushed. UVA was my number 1 choice by far.

Well, this is life. There will be obstacles, it all matters in how you can deal with them.

Best of luck to everyone else on their future endeavors.

Homies, I didn't even apply anywhere besides UVA.

Anonymous said...

why why why???

I at least applied to Univ. of Maryland (accepted).

I'm still going to apply to more just so I have a few good options to choose from. You should too.

I feel calm right now but if I could...I would scream at the top of my lungs.

i got accepted as a freshman

I got wait listed..
So disappointed..
But.. I will WAIT!!

Anonymous said...

In general, did any of you apply to the school of Arts and Sciences and not get in?

Anonymous said...

I applied to the college of Arts and Scienece and I didn't get in. I am an instate student at JMU with a 4.0..but i'm not giving up yet. hopefully my 4.0 again this semester will show something :(

Anonymous said...

adding to my above comment..

i was wait listed not rejected

Anonymous said...

wow and apparently i can't spell haha.

i meant sciences* and a*

everyone hang in there!

To anon at JMU,

You're not the only one who earned a 4.0 GPA and was wait listed from JMU. I pressed the submit button to accepting a spot on the wait list and hopefully my 4.0GPA this semester will prove my record.

I really wish to know the reason why I did not get offered, at least I can learn something about it and improved it next time. Do we get to know the reasons why we did not get in, Transfermer? By the way, thank you very much for updated the result and maintaining this blog. You did a wonderful job, and I really appreciated your hard work.

To anon,

I don't know what happened with us at JMU. I don't know what else they could want.

I am really beginning to get sick of the waiting...but not sick enough to stop. Ha

Senior year of hs I applied early and was deferred, then reg decision I was waitlisted, and then I was not accepted off the waitlist.

Now it is all over again...

Anonymous said...

I applied to the college of arts and sciences as an out of state and didn't get it. Based on previous responses about credentials, I guess this just goes to show that grades aren't everything.

Anonymous said...

Can you appeal? They should look at my 4.0 from this semester that I just earned from the #24 Accounting program in the nation.

I was not offered admission for Fall 2008, so am planning to attend a VCCS school and reapply under the guarenteed admissions program. Am I able to apply for Spring 2009, or do I have to wait until next Fall? Thanks!

UVA staff is doing poor job in handling all documents. Some of my records seems to be missing and the decisions are out.Online status does not give proper detail of received items. They don't tell anything on phone.what do you do?It's so sad!Any way life does not end here.Enough of this! I have been accepted by another good university so no more of state tuition.By the way,I am also 4.0 student. So,all those who didn't make it, don't think you are less then any one Let's rock!.Good luck..

Anonymous said...

Hi folks!those who are accepted made a comment about us,I mean, those who did not make it, that we may have taken easier classes to get 4.0.I had a very hectic & tough curriculum as I am Pre-med student. And about essays,I did not pay a professional writer to review my essays as I don't have that kind of money.I know, lot of people do the same!
How about you all?Any comments? I really want to know what made them so special? And thanks, for the positive response of one of us life does not end here. Let's rock!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I agree with you anon. I can't afford to pay a professional writer to review ( or write) my essays. Everybody knows that wealthy students use professional writers.
I used to be an English tutor for one girl in private HS, and I wrote essays for her.

Anonymous said...

Just to clarify, I don't think the person was saying that those of you who were rejected/waitlisted with a 4.0 necessarily took easy classes. I think the admissions process is slightly random. There are obviously qualified people who were rejected, waitlisted, and admitted. I can also say that I did not use a professional writer for my essay, and I've never heard of anyone doing that (though I could just be naive).

Anonymous said...

Using a professional is garbage, as are admissions coaches. That being said, there are some people who will simply write better essays than you because they are more mature, understand more clearly what is expected, and are more talented writers.

Anonymous said...

haha, I should have gone to one of those VCCS schools which are a joke and gotten in. Oh well, it's not personal just a tough school to get into. Good luck everyone, I'm sure we were all capable of doing well in the respective schools we applied to. Congrats to everyone who made it and I wish you the best.

To anon with premed concentration,

Ok, I'm a biology/chemistry major and I am in the premed concentration too. I had taken Chemistry, Bio, Calculus, and two gen educations classes in one semester and earned a 4.0GPA. I'm practically doing the same this semester but since they didn't see mid-term grades which are all A's...I took CC classes over the summer before attending college as a fr. FYI, I was waitlisted.

Anonymous said...

Quite surprised by the decision since I was just offered admission to Cornell University.I even applied to Arts and Sciences at UVA. Think I might call to ask 'why' on Monday...

Anonymous said...

I'd much rather be at UVA than Cornell, then again I'm interested in finance...

If you would like to inquire about your decision, we will take "decision calls" over the next few days.

Obviously, it's a little different for you seeing as you're not first year applicants, but Dean J's "Now What" post on March 31 will give you a little guidance if you decide to call us.

I would also like to comment on the poor handling of documents. The admissions process should have been somewhat better handled and we, as transfers, should have not had to worry about our documents or if our letters would be read. This did not help with our decisions and I can be sure of that because I was one who had this problem. However, you cannot judge a school by their admissions process because things happen.

Anonymous said...

Transfermer,

Do you mean decision calls regarding why we were not offered admission into the University of Virginia?

Thanks

Anonymous said...

what additional information could possibly help now (wait listed)? Is the wait list ranked or will all be reconsidered together in June before any more offers are made from the wait list? Also, what percentage of wait list usually gets offered admission?

Anonymous said...

If offered admission from the wait list in June, is it way too late to qualify for housing on grounds?

Anonymous said...

transfermer,

what kind of info is available on monday...can you say why applicant was waitlisted? can you give advice on future applications (different courses needed, whatever)? or will it be general info. thanks for the blog, it helps a lot.

im currently a 2nd year at uva
i think alot of u think getting a 4.0 at jmu/gmu or w/e school is a big deal... but im not gonna lie. ur grades will drop like a rock if u do get accepted from the waitlist. my friend from tech who transferred this year with a 4.0 at tech is currently getting raped at uva. first semester my friend didnt even get a 3.0. so yea.

Anonymous said...

Using the word "rape" so flippantly is really classy.

Anonymous said...

to the person who said they had a friend who transferred from tech and now is not doing well...I transferred from jmu with a 4.0 and currently have a 4.0 at uva. JMU was actually HARDER than uva in my opinion. but i do like the school itself better.

Anonymous said...

Hey everyone just look at this way and it may sound cliche, but it wasn't meant to happen and our opportunites lie elsewhere! Goodluck with whatever you guys decide to do! Thank goodness I didn't get in, it makes my decision of going to UCLA a lot easier!

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure how you can find JMU harder, I go to a school more highly ranked than JMU and am very disappointed in the abilities of my fellow students, thats half of what makes a class difficult.

UVA is far more competitive, but props for thriving in that environment.

This admission process was disappointing. Half the time I was worried about if my transcripts and recommendations were received. Now I see why it is so hard to get into UVA... they lose half of our stuff! Most of us are adults with school and jobs why should we waste our time b/c you'll lost our stuff. Beside that I know this application process had to be completely random. Maybe some "iny-meeny-miny-moe" was played during this selection process. I'm not trying to take anything away from the people who worked there butt off to get accepted, but I know people who had decent grades in there first year of college and even worst grades in high school and were accepted. I know that now what they are saying about coursework is garbage. I like many of you'll took and passed AP classes in high school, took classes that spread out over many disciplines, were involved in extra curricular activities, and still got a stellar GPA. I'm also seeing that people had professional essay writers...WHAT!!? I wish I would've thought of that, it would have made this process a lot easier. I know I can't judge a school on the admission process, but you'll really messed up. I hope that it gets fixed by next year.

I mean perhaps you didn't get accepted because your essay included the same alarming grammatical errors as your post.

Anonymous said...

I didn't get in but thats life. I guess i will go to Virginia tech now.

On another note, I truly dislike the people who whine and complain about having perfect grades and not offered admissions. At least you're going to college; some people do not even have that luxury. Go tell the girls in the Sudan, who get raped every time they go to the watering hole, that your life is over because you didn't get into UVA.

Anonymous said...

Good point

Anonymous said...

I believe that it is much harder to be accepted after only one semester of college, regardless of whether or not you have a 4.0 or not. The UVA admissions counselor I talked to said they very much prefer two years of solid course work over a single semester transcript. This is reiterated as well on this website. I'm sure if you apply again you'll be accepted with more coursework under your belt!

Anonymous said...

I also would like to know if a decision can be appealed

Anonymous said...

Are you mad?!? Given that leeway, can you imagine how many of you will appeal the school's decision?!

Well I never....

Anonymous said...

If you didn't get in you should just accept it and move on. People asking about sending letters expressing their desire to attend, yada yada yada... of course everyone wants to attend. You need to get practical and not hung up on this situation, it isn't the end of your life kids.

Ryan Van Parys said...

I don't know of any schools who listen to appeals unless there has been a significant mix up -- i.e. lost transcript, etc.

Out of state: denied from comm school

Ryan Van Parys said...

Yeah I was denied OOS too, well its ok, considering the circumstances I didn't really deserve to get in. In fact, I don't think I even had all of the prereqs(intro business?).
