The key to many VCCS course requirement questions!

As you sign up for classes, I think you'll find this post very useful.  In the spring, we posted an amazingly helpful document on our website for prospective transfers from the VCCS.  Being a power point file, it's not perfect, but it certifiably maps out a plan for you and your prospective major if you are applying to the College of Arts and Sciences.

To get to the document, go to our transfer site and click on "Transfer Course Requirements" on the left-hand side. Then under "Important Links" on the right, click on "VCCS Transfer Requirements by Major."

It spells out exactly what VCCS courses you should take to fulfill your College of Arts and Sciences area requirements and puts you in the best position for your major.  Below I've included an example of the Biology pre-reqs.  Go to our website for a more legible view :)

Hello,

I am trying to transfer into the UVA School of engineering for Fall 2013. The requirements list one calculus-based chemistry course. I am unsure what qualifies, I have spoken to George Mason's and UVA's Chemistry department and it seems no calclus-based chemistry courses are available for freshmen or sophmores. I was advised that General Chemistry I,which at UVA is CHEM 1410 and CHEM 141, would suffice. I just want to make sure I am signing up for the correct class.

Confused Autobot,
According to the analyzer, it looks like you should sign up for CHM 211 and 212.

Hi,

I am trying to apply for transfer for Fall 2013. For the Mid Year Report, is it suppose to be filled up during Spring 2013? Do I submit my application first and send the report after? As for the instructor recommendation? Do I use the Instructor Evaluation Form provided in Common Application?

Hello,

I was wondering where an Archaeology course stood in terms of the powerpoint table - as MUS, ART, or HIS?

Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you.

Carmen,
The mid-year, or in our case, the mid-semester report is for whatever semester precedes your entry at UVA. If you are applying for Fall 2013, it would be for Spring 2013 mid-term marks. If you are applying to enter UVA in spring 2013, it would be for Fall 2012 mid-term marks. Please know that even if you are applying for Fall 2013 now, we will not begin to read your application until March 2013. We do not have rolling admission. We’ll accept recommendations with or without the evaluation form.

Good question Samantha,
Depending on the course material, Archaeology transfers as either Anthropology or Art History. Art History would fall under the Humanities-ART subcategory. Anthropology would fall under the social science requirement. If you use the transfer credit analyzer, you might be able to find the answer to your question. http://es-sazwebdmz.eservices.virginia.edu/asequivs

Random question, but do UVA students get into athletic events, such as football, for free? If so, how?

Elizabeth, UVA students do get into events free. We swipe our ID card which is good for one admission.
