Waitlisted for Fall 2011?

You may use this entry as a place to post comments or questions about the wait list.

If you are still interested in us, please make sure you click the button (on your self-service page) that indicates that you want to “remain on the wait list.” If you don’t do this, you will not be reviewed again in the future.

After the deposit deadline of May 15, we’ll begin to look to see how many students we can take off the wait list. This varies from year-to-year and can be a long process. We hope to make our decisions by mid-June, but this is a moving target and I will keep you updated.

Most importantly, we will need to see your Spring 2011 grades in order to make these decisions. After final exams are completed and your grades are finalized, please make sure you mail us your official transcript. Our address is University of Virginia, Office of Admission, P.O. Box 400160, Charlottesville, VA 22904.

I'm on a quarter system... My final grades for Spring won't be out until the last week of June.. so how would I be evaluated? Or should I send transcript for Winter 2011?

Hello transfermer! I was waitlisted, and I have some questions. Could I do something to promote the chance of admission, I mean, maybe update my toefl scores or submit a letter of recommendation or something else? I really wanna get into UVA, it is my dream school!! Tell what I'm supposed to do now? Thanks so much!!

Hi Transfermer,

I have question regarding the Wait List. How many wait list offers were sent out and how many are generally accepted? Also how many spots are generally available on the Wait List?

Just trying to get a feel for what it's going to be like.

Thanks

What ZY & Still waiting said... and...

Anyway we can know what number we are on the wait list? For example, am I number 4 on the WL or number 400 on the WL? Thanks.

What happens if we do not find out before we have to respond to other schools? What percent chance is the likely hood for getting in after being placed on the waiting list?

Transfermer, I am upset and a little confused in regards to my being placed on the waitlist. I applied under the Guaranteed Admission Agreement and have held a 4.0 across 4 semesters, it was my understanding that, having worked to fulfill all the terms of the agreement that I would be guaranteed admission to the University. If I am on a different waitlist pending my receipt of my diploma then I can understand but the nebulous nature of the wait-list process is unnerving. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hello, I also was wait-listed. I have some questions. UVA is by far my first choice school and I would like to know what I can do to help my chances of being picked off the wait-list. So what can I do?? Maybe LOR's and of course my final grades I assume. Also how many are on the wait-list this year?? I'm trying to find out if there is still hope of being accepted. Thanks for your time!!

phil,
i dont know too much detail about the whole process but from what i understand of it the Guaranteed Admission Agreement with vccs allows you access into the school as a whole but not the individual schools themselves. i was also applying through the Guaranteed Admission Agreement & i did not get in. as with odu (where i applied as well) i got into odu but i didnt not get into odu's SON (school of nursing) Hope this helped a little!
-just another student from vccs that applied this term & didnt make it in-

Phil,

I regret hearing the fact that you were waitlisted. I too am a student who applied under the GAA, I recommend that you go over (literally) every word of the agreement, appropriate to the school you applied for acceptance. If you fulfilled every, every requirement to the letter of the agreement, then they have a legal obligation to uphold their side of the bargain, sort of speak. Contact the office of admissions on Monday to inquire about the details. Good Luck.

Transfermer,

Is there any chance I could shoot the admissions office an e-mail to inquire about being waitlisted? I want to know what my application is lacking and how I can make it stronger. I'll be applying next semester as well for the 3rd time, and this is starting to get a little depressing, so I'm trying to make the next one really count. I mean if I do get off the waitlist, even better, but I'm not counting on it haha.

Please let me know. Thanks!

Hello, hello!

I too am on the waitlist. I will be sending in my Spring 2011 grades as soon as humanly possible; are there any other supplementary materials thaty would help? I may be able to obtain another strong letter of recommendation, and I also recently took the GRE.

I *suspect* I'm on the list due to second-degree status, in addition to lacking Physics classes for the E-School...

Thanks for your time!

Hi Transfermer,
I was put on the wait list for UVA's SON. The school I'm currently at does not end until very late May. Therefore I am unable to send my spring grades until early June. Will this affect my wait list status at all???
Thank you!

First, thank you for keeping us all updated! I really appreciate it!

I have been waitlisted for the A-School and I was wondering how many offers went out and how many others are also waitlisted. Is this information you could share?

I was also wondering (like so many others here) if there is anything other than my spring semester grades that I could send in to improve my chances.

Thank you!

It is so sad. Getting into the School of arts and sciences is not supposed to be too hard and I had a 4.00 GPA in college. Yet, I was wait listed. I really fail to understand the admission process.

Nicole said...

WL99, UVA doesn't rank their waiting list, so you have no way of knowing.

Kma said...

@grace... I have a 3.8 and I got waitlisted for nursing so the people who got in must of had 4.0 or a lot of volenteer experience :(

AR said...

Grace: I have a 4.0 and 15 years of construction experience and I'm waitlisted for architecture... some of their schools are just that tough. At least there's still hope!

Phil, if you applied to College of Arts and Sciences and fulfilled the GAA you should be accepted. I would call admissions on Monday and find out what happened. You could be missing something or they just made a mistake. I've heard of them making the mistake and one call turned a waitlist in to an acceptance for another GAA kid last fall.

grace said...

this year the school of nursing recieved over 125 applications and there was only 8 space available :(

Lee said...

@Grace: Where'd you get those stats? Any numbers for Arts and Sciences?

grace said...

Lee: i emailed the nursing department...and he said that there was 125 applications this year for only 8 spaces...you should email the the dean of arts of sciences for stats

kma said...

@grace... did they tell you how many people were waitlisted for the school of nursing?

I'm sorry, but the admissions staff has simply failed!

"Transformer", tell me, what does it take to get into the glorious UVA? Honestly, waitlisted with an A.S. of Science in Science (3.8 GPA) from NVCC, and a current (3.6 GPA) here at Tech. It is obvious that hard work and selfless dedication do not pay off for admission into UVA's College of Arts and Sciences!

There should be some sort of personnel change within the admissions area; otherwise, many other highly motivated and intelligent individuals will be robbed continuously those earned opportunities to move forward in strategic academic endeavors.

Hey hey UVA! said...

Anon,

Just my opinion but from a general view, I believe most schools look down on students who feel the need to transfer twice.

@Hey hey UVA!

Irrelevant; free will should not be evaluated negatively.

Simster said...

Greetings, just wondering if waitlisted students who receive offers and accept have the option to defer their enrollment for a year like other regular admission students? Thanks very much.

@2nd anonymous above me: I got waitlisted with a 4.0 in Biochemistry at VT. I definitely feel your pain. For me, I feel like it's because it's only after a semester and my high school grades weren't super amazing. I'm still pretty upset overall. Hang in there!

Anonymous said...

@Lee,

Yeah, the situation is quite unfortunate; I wish you all the best with your academic pursuits. Surely maintaining credentials like that in Biochemistry should increase your chances of future acceptance.

waitlisted with a 3.87 in engineering at VT :( didn't think the E-school was nearly this tough to get in to

To all the salty Anons/posters -

With attitudes like that, you're probably overlooking factors other than grades. Grades aren't everything. Cheeeeeeers!

Anonymous said...

UVA is entirely overrated!! HaHa

@Anonymous two posts above
Congrats on getting in bro! I'm really glad to hear the news. Now leave us to our moping. Cheeeeeeers!

Hey Waitlisters!

I was waitlisted for UVA for the Fall of 2009. I feel your pain. Here's what you can do:

1) Contact the admissions office and ask about why you were waitlisted. (I did this and they were very helpful).

2) Write a letter of continued interest to the admissions office. Write about how you be a great addition to the UVA community and why. Also, state your goals and accomplishments.

3) Don't beat yourself up about it! Contrary to popular belief UVA is not all about the GPA, so don't dwell on the numbers.

I did these things and it may have helped my chances.

I hope this helps you guys. I loved my time at UVA and I will be graduating later this month!

I had my final transcripts sent last week to UVA. And I just called this morning to check to see if they arrived but the lady I spoke with said that you haven't started reviewing waitlisted applications. Well I just wanted to make sure that you guys received my transcript with my final grades because there was an issue with that when i first applied in fall. Well Thanks!
