Offered Admission?

Please use this post to ask questions if you have been offered admission.

Congratulations! As I said in my previous post, you will receive a letter (in a thin-ish envelope) via the snail mail in the next week or so.  Take note that we never promise admission to a particular major.  You have been admitted to the school to which you have applied. Major declaration and planning will occur at orientation and over the summer, and sometimes into the fall semester for rising third years.  For rising second-years, you have plenty of time to declare

For those of you who applied to the Curry Teaching program, you’ll find out whether you’ve been admitted to the Master’s program in your letter. For those of you who applied to Architecture or McIntire, watch out for information on required summer courses (in your offer letter for Architecture and over email for McIntire).

Your $400 admissions deposit can be paid online.  This goes towards your first semester’s tuition. Below your online “letter,” you should see buttons to accept or decline our offer of admission.  Clicking “YES” will not completely secure your spot in the class.  You will need to pay your $400 deposit to set it in stone.  You can pay with a credit card (we do not accept VISA) or with an e-check.  As specified in the letter, you will have until May 15th to put down a deposit.

Financial aid information will start to go out next week, if your financial aid has been reviewed.
You should keep a close eye on your to-do list in the event that Student Financial Services needs more information from you.

We do not have open houses for admitted transfer students. You are welcome to visit and look around, but keep in mind that our students and faculty are headed towards or in the midst of final exams.

As far as the next steps go, 72 hours after you deposit, you should be able to take UVA’s responsible computing quiz, officially set up your email account and look into orientation. Housing and dining information will take a couple of weeks to come.   It is so important to keep an eye on both your old and new email addresses.  EVERYTHING happens on email.  Don’t miss important deadlines by ignoring these accounts. Hopefully, the email address you put on your application is the one you check most often. Your academic credit will not be evaluated until you pay your deposit and send in your final transcript. This evaluation is ongoing until summer orientation.   If you’re curious about what might transfer, check out our transfer credit analyzer.  Generally, you will not sign up for classes until orientation.  Specialty schools may reach out and tell you you can register at an earlier date, but this won't happen to until late Jane at the earliest.

If you decide not to come to UVA, please be sure to decline the offer using the other button-- the "NO" button. We and our wait listed students would really appreciate you taking the time to do this.
Lastly, keep up the good work and good grades.  We’ve admitted because you have shown us you can perform well in college-level coursework. You’ve come this far.  Let’s keep it up!   Feel free to come back to the blog for moral support during that final exams.

this is lit, but is it possible to get a deposit extension? I won't be able to tour by May 15th.

Excited about the decision! I was wondering if there was a way to see how our credits transferred and when we can expect to gradute etc. This would help me make the decision!

Thanks and Wahoowa!

I'm extremely happy I got in, but that last paragraph got me a tad worried. Is it possible that I may be denied admission if my grades slip slightly?

Is that analyzer only for people in the College or for all? I got into the e-school, and I know a lot of the courses are different like math courses have the APMA prefix.

Very excited! Just curious to see if/when we (as third year transfer) would be made aware if we are considered for the Echols or Distinguished Majors programs? I know the admissions offer mentioned looking out for the financial aid package, but was unsure if these things we either mailed out or discussed when we are contacted by our deans?

Thanks for ALL the helpful information. This page, Transfermer, and everyone on it made this process so much easier.

Can't wait to start connecting with other transfers.

Hi I’m also wondering if it’s possible to extend the commitment deadline. I won’t be able to make a decision until June 1st.

I have other colleges on wait as well so I’m not sure how to make an informed decision.

Is there any refund policy if a dtudent puts down a deposit and decides not to go? Please let me know. Thank you.

HoosFan69 and Paro,
We only give extensions to students who encounter issues with their financial aid. The $400 deposit is non-refundable.

Keffk,
As we said above, credit is not evaluated until summer. You can use the transfer credit analyzer that we mentioned in the post itself. If you are currently a sophomore, you should expect to graduate in two years. If you are a freshman, you should graduate in three years.

ClaisenZealot,
Typically, a dramatic drop in grades will send up a red flag for us. If are concerned, we will email you and give you a chance to explain yourself. Sometimes, decisions result in an offer of admission being rescinded. But again, we usually give you a chance to explain. Send your final transcript as soon as final grades are available and we’ll go from there.

Alang,
Check out our transfer faqs here – you’ll find a link for a document that assists with engineering transfer of credit.

MegC,
Letter for the Echols scholars program will be mailed out this week. The Distinguished Majors program is something you would have to look into once you become a student here. Your academic departments oversee that process.

Hi, you said we should receive an email about 72 hours after we send in the deposit and I sent mine in almost a week ago. I was wondering if the emails were sent out already or not and who I should contact if I didn't receive it.

Hi Madeline,
I've heard there's a glitch with emails, but I can confirm that we received your deposit. You can move forward without the email by going to this page - http://orientation.virginia.edu/first-steps-new-students and follow steps 2 and 3.

Hi, I know you said people usually register for classes during orientation, but in my SIS, it says the shopping cart enrollment opened for me on May 1st, and I have picked out the classes I want (which was hard to do since so many are filled already!), but when I go to enroll, it says that I don't have a valid enrollment appointment. So that makes no sense and is frustrating!

Hello, I was recently admitted into McIntire and was wondering when and how I sign up for classes. Thank you for your help!

Hi, I am worried as I got in with GAA but my GPA is hanging on a thread and my language requirements are difficult and I fear that it may lower it slightly under the required GPA, will I be rejected from UVA? This is constantly giving me anxiety for the last week weeks:( thank you
