Offered Admission for Fall 2013

In order the streamline the comments, I will create separate posts for your individual inquiries.  Please be respectful of your fellow commenters and the work we have put into reading your applications.  I will delete any offensive or unpleasant commentary.

**Feel free to ask questions here if you’ve been offered admission**

As I said before, your status page is pretty basic.  The admissions deposit which goes towards your  tuition for the first semester is $400.  Below your “letter,” you should see buttons for accepting or declining our offer of admission.  Clicking “YES” will not completely secure your spot in the class. You will need to pay in order to set it in stone.  You can pay with a credit card (we don’t accept VISA) or with an e-check. You’ll have until May 15th to put down a deposit.  If you decide not to come to UVA, please decline our offer on that same page. This will make for a cleaner wait list phase.

We do not have admitted students’ days for transfers, but you are welcome to visit before you have to make your decision.  I will address questions about orientation and housing next week.  I’ll also let you know when financial aid awards begin to go out. These are only posted online.

**Update:

In order to get the ball rolling, you need to make your deposit of course.  After 72 hours, you’ll be able to take UVA’s responsible computing quiz, set up your email account and register for orientation. I don’t believe housing and dining information will be available until mid-May or June, but ALWAYS keep an eye on your email. Your credits will not be evaluated until pay your deposit and send your final transcript.  Credit evaluation is ongoing until summer orientation.

WAHOO! So If I'm paying with the GI bill do I have enough time to receive the benefits and pay my deposit before May 15th? Also for Family housing is there competition? My sons due in a week!

(can you say best month ever?)

I just wanted to thank you Transfermer for providing this blog. It has been incredibly helpful and made this process so much easier. I'm so happy to have been accepted and very excited about attending in the fall.
Thanks again, Transfermer
Robert

Is it really not possible to pay the tuition deposit with Visa? The online system only offered Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

Transfermer- I'm super excited! When can we start registering for classes/ enrolling?

Is there a Facebook group for admitted students for Fall 2013?

I was just accepted and was wondering why no financial aid deadlines or anything else is showing up on my SIS, could this be because I submitted my financial March 31st?

bina said...

Accepted!! The only words I could manage out of my mouth were "Oh s***, oh s***!!!"

Congrats to everyone who got in!

I got my acceptance letter and am super excited! I'm not sure, though, if this means I still have to wait for an acceptance from McIntire, or if I am officially into the school of commerce.

SC said...

I got accepted under the GAA for NVCC. What are the chances that I will remain accepted if my GPA were to drop to a 3.3 from a 3.5 this semester?

ahnuld said...

can anyone else find the letter of acceptance after the deposit has been paid? and some one make a facebook page! Congrats to everyone who got in. I am extremely excited to meet you all.

Do we have to pay the admissions deposit to find out if our transfer courses were accepted?

oriana said...

Huge thanks to the admissions office for their hard work (and letting us know early). So relieved!!

If I want to go into the McIntire school of business, do I need to do something to get in? I applied to the Arts and Sciences because only junior transfers were allowed to apply to McIntire school of business, but I applied to eventually study in the McIntire school of business. Could you give me some insight on how to get into the McIntire school of Business?

@ahnuld:
Yeah, I couldn't view my acceptance letter either after paying the deposit. Guess we'll have to wait for the hard copies to come in the mail.

So excited! One question: if we were admitted to the Echols program, would we have found out in our SIS letter or will notification come later? Thanks.

Is there a way to have the deposit waived?

If I were to get a C in a class, would Mcintire rescind my acceptance?

I'm so happy to be a part of the UVA community! There was a group on facebook started by a fellow transfer applicant. Everyone should join! its called "UVA Fall Transfers 2103"

Anonymous said...

Hey i use the fb link to join the group. so someone who created the group need to accept me? then i can post.

Thank you so much for guiding us through this process. It was a huge help and I am glad to be admitted to UVA.

I was admitted through the VCCS system, however, I did not use the GAA. If I am admitted is it assumed I'm a third-year student or do I need to wait for my credits to be evaluated before I figure out whether I am second or third year?

Wahoo,
Unfortunately, I don’t know how the GI Bill implementation works, but I don’t think the money will be available before May 15. Congrats on the new baby! You’ll have to take about family housing with the housing office.

Robert,
Thanks for being nice. We are excited for you to join us!

John,
Yes, it’s a bummer, but VISA charges both UVA and the student when we use them. The other companies do not. Most students in this case use the e-check system.

AcceptedF2013,
Student Financial Services is still working on packages. Normally, they issue their awards a few days after us.

Accepted,
If you checked the box for McIntire, you were admitted to McIntire.

SC,
It’s less about the GPA in terms of us pulling the offer and more about the letter grades or downward trend. If you are concerned, let’s see how final exams turn out and go from there.

Thanks for pointing this out
Ahnuld,
You should be getting letters early this week.

Danielle,
Yes, that’s right, but you can get an idea about what will transfer by looking at our transfer credit analyzer - http://es-sazwebdmz.eservices.virginia.edu/asequivs .

Anon who wants the commerce school,
If I understand it, you were just admitted as a rising second-year to the college. You will need to apply in January of next year for admission for fall of 2014. It is extremely competitive. Your application will be based on your one semester at UVA, your commerce application and any extra-curricular involvement you’ll have at UVA. I urge you to go to one of their interest meetings or visit their offices in early fall. www.commerce.virginia.edu

HopingforEchols,
You’ll be contact this week via email, but I believe we only offered it to one or two admits.

Happy,
Eligibility for a waiver is based on your financial need. Unfortunately, it is a not as simple as the application fee waivers. Please write our office and hopefully, in a few days, and if they have all of your materials, we’ll be able to offer you a waiver.

Anon who got into Comm,
It is unlikely, but it’s also up to the administrators in the Commerce school. Again, do the best you can at the end of the semester and we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. I will tell you that the Comm school is extremely difficult and the more you challenge yourself now and triumph, the better you’ll be for it there.

Jimmy B,
It’s usually based on your semesters in school. If you’ll have two full-time semesters, you’ll be a second-year. If you ‘ll have four full-time semesters, you’ll be a third year. Keep in mind that you need 120 credits to graduate from UVA and most of our students graduate in four years. This may mean that you’ll be in need of summer courses in order to graduate on time.

Thank you for all your support throughout this process!

As far as evaluating credits, how does that process work? I have a specific engineering major, and I know that the engineering school at UVa starts out with general classes and then moves on to more specific ones after the first year, whereas the school I am at now starts directly in specific engineering classes, but with similar goals. (ex. Intro to Chemical Engineering vs. Intro to Engineering)I also noticed that there was no chemical engineering credits shown on the online credit evaluator, and I am curious if I need to contact the department directly.

Thank you again for all your help!

Jimmy B said...

Thank you so much for a quick reply!

Due my work while i was in the VCCS system I really only had one 5 course semester, two 4 course semesters, and one three course semester. Meaning it will come down to credits for me, I am just worried if I get put as a 3rd year with 55 credits I will have a lot of trouble making up ground.

I was offered admissions for the fall semester of 13. I am a transfer student from VCC. I did not apply under the GAA program but was still offered admissions. i applied with a 3.55 but im affraid i mite get one C two As and two Bs this semester(3.18). would admissions pull my offer because of the C?

I'm glad that I was accepted, but I'm unable to determine whether or not I'll be able to attend the University until I'm able to see my financial aid package. Are they only available after I submit my decision and deposit?

Transfermer said...

Anonymous who is asking about credits,
The analyzer online is technically run by the College of Arts and Sciences so it will not list all transferable courses. You can contact the Engineering school itself, but please be gentle. They are likely receiving many inquiries at this busy time.

Jimmy B,
Advisors will assist you in making up the work and technically, you are not kicked out after four semesters. Still, you should plan on taking a summer class or two.

Anon,
One C will likely not be a problem, but I will send you good vibes to pull out that B.

Hi Mimi,
See Follow-up above, but no, if you need this to make your decision, we can work with you.

When is the earliest that SEAS transfer students may register for classes?

Thanks. This blog is super helpful.

I've been accepted for the the Fall, but I would like to visit next week and see if I can discuss my degree progress. Do I set up an appointment with admissions or with my degree department (Chemistry/Biochem)?

Wahoo said...

I'm at a 3.71 and if my grades drop to a 3.61, will I be at risk of losing my acceptance?

I still have finals and I hope to exceed my own expectations and get a higher grade than a 3.61, but how much pressure am I under if my grades drop 0.1 point?

Wahoo said...

The particulars on my gpa are that I am a 3.71 student with the likely chance that my gpa will drop to a 3.61.

That is by taking 20 credits
4 A's 2 B's and 1 C

Am I in need to explain my grades?
How will we go about explaining this?

Transfermer said...

newWahoo,
Usually not until orientation, but the e-school will be in touch with you.

Anon,
You should contact the departments specifically, but I do worry they might be busy with final exams and tying up loose ends of the end of the semester.

Wahoo,
That’s not a problem.

Wahoo said...

Great to hear transfermer! Thank you.

Next, how does the overnight work for summer orientation?

Danielle said...

I recently received financial aid to do's. However, I am not sure I will be able to complete them by the deposit deadline. Is it possible to get an estimate of my financial aid reward? This will determine if I attend the University or not.

Does our GPA from our previous school transfer with us or do we start off with a new one?

Anonymous said...

I was accepted for fall 2013 as a transfer. My first semester GPA was a 3.8, however my second semester was a 3.3 because I got a D+ in calc. Will my acceptance be revoked? Together it averages as a 3.55.

Rover said...

I got into UVA with a 3.95 GPA (VCCS GAA), but this semester did not turn out well due to various circumstances. I've been working harder than I ever have to compensate but fear that I might still end up with a D in one class. Is my acceptance likely going to be revoked? This is with 20 credits and likely 5 A's and 1 B in everything else.

Transfermer said...

Wahoo,
The orientation office will provide you with information on staying overnight.

Danielle,
Student Financial Services (SFS) will not give an estimate. If worse comes to worse, please consult our office for information on getting an extension.

Sally,
You will begin a new GPA.
Anon with a downshift in grades,
Please write an explanation to our office. We deal with these situations on a case-by-case basis. We will often ask students to repeat courses during the summer. But, if there is a terrible and dramatic change (multiple Cs, singular Ds or Fs), offers of admission can be rescinded.

Rover,
Same as above.

Juliet said...

Hi, on my SIS it says that the deadline for submitting official transcripts is 7/1, but I am taking classes during the summer semester at VCCS and they don't end until 8/11. Should I wait to turn in my transcripts or do I send in one on 7/1 and then another on 8/11?

AcceptedF2013 said...

It looks like I will be receiving a B in both Physical Geology and Calculus this semester. Could this be grounds to rescind my offer of acceptance? I know that similar questions have been asked above, sorry to be redundant.

Anonymous said...

thanks for the good vibes, pulled off the B!

Is the Office of Admission, PO Box 400160, Charlottesville, VA 22904 the correct address for sending final transcripts?
