Decisions are NOT coming out this week

Remember we are trying to contend with a new system of reading and releasing decisions. We are not required to release before May 1. Last year was a fluke.
I'm sorry, but they won't be out this week folks.

That's a bummer

Sasha said...

I am thankful that it's at least been put out there, so we can stop thinking about it.

Anonymous said...

I was hoping they would come out this week. Oh well.

Sud said...

Ah, disappointing news, but at least I don't have to keep checking the SIS for this week.

katydid said...

oh well...not that much longer anyways.

ashley said...

10 days!!! :)

I agree with what Sasha said...

Thanks for letting us know. What a relief.

Thanks so much for the update Transfermer! Just a random question if you can answer it. I know that each application is reviewed by two people what if one admissions dean recommends for the applicant to be admitted while the other recommends to deny the applicant? And how much time approximatley is each application reviewed by one admissions counselor?

Sydney said...

Thanks! 1 week and 3 days really isn't that long :)

I'm relieved and bummed at the same time. I just want to know. It's killing me.

Anyone here apply to the School of Nursing?

UVA4Me said...

Transfermer,
will decisions come out at a specific time on May 1?

Anonymous said...

I am applying to the nursing school as a third year! What year are you applying for?

UVAfan said...

Anon89,

I applied to the school of nursing as a 2nd yr!
I'm a male too....oooo lol
You?

Anonymous said...

haha I'm a female and like I said I applied as a third year! I'm so nervous - I have heard some scary numbers at least for the third years!

UVAfan said...

Anon89,

What scary numbers are you hearing? And from what sources?
I have seen some stats for SON, and they do not look very pretty LOL.
Someone told me the UVA SON is actually one of the hardest schools to get into!? I wonder of that's really true.
I'm applying as a 2nd yr and I'm extremely nervous. Where are you coming from?
I'm a male, and I've heard some good things about males for the SON, but I'm not gonna solely rely on my sex for admissions haha.

Anonymous said...

I talked to Theresa Carroll in the SON chatroom a few weeks ago and for third years she said there were about 115 applicants and only 16 spots open...ah!! I would say its pretty competitive! I would think you being a male helps your chances though! I'm currently attending another nursing school but really want to go to UVA! How about you?

UVAfan said...

Anon89,

Wow, those numbers do sound scary! But i'll keep my fingers crossed for you, I hope you get in :)
I hope being male helps, one thing for sure is i will stand out lol. I love Dr. Carroll! She is awesome, she has such an upbeat, welcoming attitude. I'm currently at NVCC. I wasn't even going to apply because I thought I had not even the slightest chance, but my friends and family convinced me to apply. I hope I get in!!!! I've been praying every night haha.
Where do you plan on living when you get in? (hence my optimism) LOL.

Anonymous said...

ID Anon89

Hey UVA fan,
I also attend NVCC and I applied for third year entry. What NVCC campus are you on?

P.S. the Anonymous you have been responding to is not me. If i post a comment, I always begin with "ID Anon89" :)

Anonymous said...

ID Anon 89:
Glad to hear you also applied for third year entry! Have you heard anything about the process for SON? Ahh! I'm so nervous!

UVAfan said...

ID Anon89,

I go to the Alexandria campus. What campus are you in?

Did you ever meet Dr. Carroll at the School of Nursing open house?
I've emailed her so many times, just to let her know how interested i am lol.

Hey Anon,
Im third year SON applicant as well :)
You should join the "UVA Transfers" group on facebook that we can chat!

CarrJW said...

haha. Oh, Im the third year SON applicant...jeez. anyway, hope to talk to you soon!

CarrJW said...

Oh yeah, and just so that you know there is another girl that has joined the facebook group and has applied for third year as well. You too should chat.

It has been a huge stress reliever for me to have the opportunity to chat and relate with others in the same situation. Anyways, Good Luck to you!

Smiles :) said...

I feel so left out without a facebook...:(

If I get into UVA, I'll make one.

Also, I'm willing to bet 50 bucks that decisions will come out on the day of my formal (April 30). Whether I get in or not, it's going to be an awkward night...

CarrJW said...

Smile,

Im gonna call April 28th!

Hey UVA fan

I go to the Annandale campus. I have never been in touch with Dr. Carroll though.
Lol...I wake up every morning hoping it is May 1st. I hate anxiety!

Hey Anonymous (who asked me to join facebook),
Thanks for the heads up. I did not know there was a group on facebook for us.

CarrJW said...

Hey Anon,
That was me, CarrJW. I created the page for transfer students. I am the prospective third year applicant and I was hoping we could chat since we can relate to one another. anyway, its under UVA Transfers.

i'm gonna go ahead and boldly guess that may 1st will be the date decisions are released.

longest two months of my life...

Unknown said...

What if with the AO's great efficiency that one day before May 1 when you come here and see one post saying that the decisions "will be out TODAY"!!!

Any other scenarios more nerve cracking than this?

SURPRISE!!! :)

UVAfan said...

Hey ID Anon89,

You should talk to Dr. Carroll. She is such A big help. And very comfortable to talk to.

Did anyone else here apply to a school at UVA and also asked to be considered for admission to another school as well?

Anonymous said...

UVA fan...I did.

Guys, I wish we could all be accepted. Good luck to you all! I'm sure it'll all work out for all of us.

Anonymous said...

Transfermer--

Someone asked this question in one of the other posts and I don't think it was answered...

Between GAA and out-of-state quota requirements, what percentage of the people the admissions committee plans to accept will be from in-state students currently attending 4 year institutions? Or is it too early to say?

I was curious to see if there is a set answer to that question, or if these numbers depend on the college to which people applied.

Thank you

Anonymous said...

I will be the "36th posted comment" if you all are keeping up. lol.

I just can't wait until its all over. "Good luck" everyone.

Anonymous said...

hahahaha, I'm pretty sure most people are.

Kevin Jacokes said...

UVAfan--

I applied to Commerce and asked to be considered for Arts & Sciences if I didn't get in.

Anonymous said...

Yeah,

But if you apply to another school as a sophomore or junior transfer, I'm pretty sure you cannot transfer into select schools such as McIntire from CAS as an external transfer.

UVAfan said...

I asked this question on college confidential but don't seem to have much luck :(

My question was: If you apply to a school at UVA, and ask to be considered for admissions for another school at UVA, how likely is this to happen?
For example I applied to the School of Nursing, but asked to be considered for the College of Arts & Sciences if not accepted to SON.
How does it work out? Is it only a select few that are selected for their second choice school at UVA?

Mary said...

Just out of curiosity, approximately what percentage of the applications have yet to be evaluated? Less than half, less than a quarter, more/less? Thank you.

CarrJW said...

Good question Mary, I would assume that they have made most of their decisions by now. Maybe at this point its a process of uploading all of the decisions into people soft. Who knows...ha. Lets just keep our fingers crossed :)

CarrJW said...

Transfermer,

I am really curious of UVAfan's question as well.

Kevin Jacokes said...

uvafan/carrjw--

i'm really interested as well. i suspect it'd be hard to say much about chances though, since some might be applying to son with a&s as a backup and some may be applying to soc with a&s as a backup.

did any of you guys happen to do the gaa, so a&s as is a sure thing if you don't get into son?

UVAfan said...

KJ,

I did not apply under the GAA (The GAA is actually plan B if i don't get in this yr, fingers crossed)

I'm applying as a 2nd yr transfer from a CC

Kevin Jacokes said...

oh, okay. good luck! i'm sure you won't need the gaa. :)

CarrJW said...

awww that was sweet KJ :)

Were all such a wonderfully considerate and cohesive group of prospective sudents!ha.

Anonymous said...

CarrJW,

I think all of us on here will probably be the best transfer class of all UVA history!! Haha

UVAfan said...

The last comment was me lol

CarrJW said...

especially the SON students! ;-)

Sasha said...

Indeed, I am impressed by how supportive these comments are. I don't think it'd be too far-fetched for us all to wish the rest terrible things, most notably, not getting in.

UVAfan said...

Anyone ever been to the corner at UVA?
Particularly the College Inn?

FYI: DO NOT EAT THERE, it gives you bad "things" lol. Let's just leave it at that. Haha

Curious said...

Just out of curiosity, with all this talk of GAA and in-state kids, is there anyone trolling this blog who's OOS and currently at a 4 year college (like myself)?

katydid said...

UVAfan: i'm pretty sure i did. and i'm pretty sure i had that same conclusion lol

UVAfan said...

katydid,

Sorry to hear that LOL.
Aside from that incident of terror I had with College Inn I enjoyed my stay UVA!! So much fun!! The Virginian is very good though, expensive but good

TeapotMonarch said...

Yeah, not a huge fan of College Inn. I got so excited since they deliver, but it was not worth it. However, Little Johns and Mellow Mushroom are amazing. And also, if you're looking for sketchiness and deliciousness, go to the White Spot. Truly sketch, but oh so very delicious (burgers with a fried egg on top...omg).

Marcus said...

Curious, Im not OOS but I am from a 4 year university.

Anonymous said...

I AM HUNGRY JUST ABOUT NOW.....

UVAfan said...

TeapotMonarch,

I'm so glad you mentioned Mellow Mushroom!! I was trying to think of that restaurants name forever!! You know it's the only MM in Virginia, God C'Ville has everything! LOL.
How far is MM from grounds anyways???

Are any of you guys (with hope and faith in God we get in) taking a car to UVA if you live on grounds???

PS, I bet all our decisions have been made!! Makes me even more nervous knowing my Decision is out there!!!

TeapotMonarch said...

UVAfan,

Mellow Mushroom is on the Corner (I think). It depends on where you are on grounds, but from the stadium (where I stay), it's about a twenty minute walk for us. But oh so worth it. I went over spring break and we went for the Jeopardy night (Wednesday nights....If I get in, I vow to at least go monthly). We placed second. :)

Yeah, if accepted, I am planning on bringing my car. I live an hour away, so it'd be nice to make visits home or to go on some weekend trips...Ah, wishful thinking. We find out so soon though!

Kevin Jacokes said...

uvafan--

i'm probably not taking a car. by the way, did you post a similar question on college confidential? i think i saw it there. i never want to post there because it seems a little bit hostile...at least compared to the transfer blog.

UVAfan said...

KJ: Yes I know what you mean. But thats the exact reason why i posted it here again, and i asked it again on the facebook group LOL! I'm obsessed...yes :)

TeapotMonarch: Where do you go to school? You said you stay around the Stadium Rd residences? or am i just being dumb and confused lol.

TeapotMonarch said...

I go to JMU. What I meant was that I stay in Watson, which is by the stadium.

Curious said...

Haha, sweet Marcus- I feel slightly less out of place.

Smiles :) said...

To Marcus and Curious: I don't think everyone is applying under the GAA or is from a community college. I'm not, neither is TeapotMonarch.

If accepted, I do plan on bringing my car, same reasons for Teapot (although my drive will be two hours...).

I feel so out of the loop about the restaurants on the corner. The only "unique" one I've been to is Basil.

And yes, the stress of decisions is KILLING me. Every time anyone talks about the future, I get really antsy because mine is still up in the air...

Curious said...

Smiles :) -

I know, it wasn't some sort of hit towards those who applied under GAA. I was just noticing a trend that a lot of the people who post here are from Virginia. It was more of a "who's from out of state" question since we're a bit under-represented here- I'm from New York myself- so I was just wondering if there were others from a totally different region.

Nevertheless- one week you guys!

Ashley said...

curious-

I am applying from a 4 year university, out of state. I am currently at the University of South Alabama, and I am going to be going into my junior year next semester (academically) and my freshman year atheltically. :)

I am, just like so many others, awaiting the decision day. I can't wait to find out about my acceptance. I want to be a cavalier SO bad. :)

Hey guys, 1 more week as of today!!!

I'm actually from California...hoping to transfer to UVA as well. Anxiety is killing me. Good luck to everyone!

CarrJW said...

MannyZLO,

Thanks for the well wishes and good luck to you as well! :)

UVAfan said...

Omg, by this time next week we'll be getting ready to view our decisions!!!!!
I'm scared

CarrJW said...

Pretty soon the moment will be upon us!

UVAfan said...

Does anyone know...?

Our decisions get sent out on May 1st right?
Does that mean that we will get our decision letters by mail on May 1st, or will it be a few days till they arrive in our mailboxes???

Just wondering because I refuse to check my decision online LOL, it'll be harder on me to see a flat our DENIED.

Sud said...

UVAfan, I believe Dean J said on her blog for the first year students, that if they were not accepted, it would not be a flat out message saying, "Denied", but instead would be a paragraph or two, much like what is seen in a physical denied letter. I don't know whether the same can be said for transfer admission notices, but it might possibly be the same.

Hopefully we won't have to experience a denied message at all. Best of luck to to everyone.

MannyZLO said...

Thanks CarrJW!

BTW, I called this morning, and they said they dont know of a time that decisions will be posted.

CarrJW said...

Jeeeeez I wish they would just throw us a bone! Anything to soothe our nerves would be great.

UVAfan said...

Sud,

Thanks for the info, if that is true then I guess I will look at my decision online...though I will probably hesitate a lot haha.

I WISH ALL YOU TRANSFERS THE BEST!!!! Regardless of our decisions....stay strong :)

Anonymous said...

so the green "view decision" check just appeared on my SIS
its like torture! i want to knoww!!

Anonymous said...

It will say not offered....a little bit better euphemism lol...I applied last year and that "not offered" still really hurt :(...again, good luck guys.

UVAfan said...

Has anyone noticed that on Collegeboard.com, under the UVA page, and under the admissions tab it says
VERY IMPORTANT ADMISSIONS FACTORS: Racial/ethnic status, First Generation, Recommendations, state residency.

IS THIS TRUE? I know they're important, and considered factors when deciding admissions decisions...but not IMPORTANT factors.

I don't really care cuz all of those factors above lol. Just wondering if it really does help

UVAfan said...

I meant to say
*cuz I'm all those factors above
Lol

diversity-matters said...

It's funny too, because I see that all the time (about racial/ethnic status being important ). So you get extremely excited because you are diverse...and then you stare at the computer confused when you see 8.7% African American, 11% Asian, and 4% Hispanic.

I will, however, agree that UVA is trying to look for more ways to increase diversity. It's tough work trying to change from one reputation to another, but I commend UVA for their continued effort.

Unknown said...

anyone applying for school of commerce from out of state?

Curious said...

Anh- I am!

Unknown said...

Curious, are you OOS? What's your GPA?

Kevin Jacokes said...

diversity matters--

is it cool if we don't talk about that issue, at least on these forums? maybe it's just me, but i feel like the role of race in the admission process has been discussed at length on college board and it inevitably turns into a hostile argument.

diversity-matters said...

Hi Kj,

Thanks for you concern. I was actually answering someone's question on this blog. Thanks for understanding.

UVA4Me said...

Good luck to everyone. One of my really good friends (out of state; applying as a freshman), was ethnic, top 10 in class, more extracurriculars than i could name, and was wait listed at UVa. He was accepted into Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and UCLA, though. Don't let the decision of acceptance to UVa become a personal reflection of your abilites. A lot of it is true numbers game. Good luck!

MannyZLO said...

I got accepted at UCLA!!! Now, Im waiting for my first choice...UVA!! 5 more days!!

TeapotMonarch said...

Congratulations! Good luck with UVA! Either way, you've got a great education waiting for you next year!

Kevin Jacokes said...

well-said uva4me. there's a lot of qualified students out there...

on a related note...i bought a $1 va lottery ticket today and when i win $150 million, i'll buy a section of charlottesville so uva can expand to be big enough for all of us. :)

or i'd just build a money pool and swim around in it. either, or.

Since they insist on releasing the decisions on Friday (although it seems the decisions have already been finalized), it seems counter-intuitive to request FinAid docs.

wahoowannabe said...

You guys are over analyzing everything. Transfermer already said hold tight until May 1 or Friday, for the admissions decisions. Be patient. Transfermer also already stated that if financial aid documents are being requested it has nothing to do with your admissions decision, they're just processing everything as the two departments work separately.

Anonymous said...

does anyone know the exact time they tell us yet?

UVA4ME..... They obviously did not think he would attend that is why they waitlisted him. They gave that seat to someone who seemed more interested.

mw said...

more extracurriculars than you can name sometimes doesn't help at all ... some schools like to see you pick one or two extracurriculars and excel in them and attain a leadership position.

I hope we hear soooon = )

CarrJW said...

I hope Transfermer gives us an update tomorrow morning!!!
Thank the lord it's finally decision week, the waiting is killing me :-\

I second CarrJW. I would really love it if we got our decisions Wednesday...

UVAfan said...

NOOO GUYS!!!
I'm too scared to view my decision. I feel like when your on a rollercoaster ride...At first you wanted to ride it soo bad, then your too scared of whats to come next so you wanna get off, but its too late now. Hahaha!

Not that i ever regret applying...UVA ROCKS!!

PS. Does anyone know if its true that when we get an acceptance letter it usually comes in a big packet, and a rejection letter comes in a small packet.

mw said...

Yes that is the case as far as I know. That is what they have done for first-year undergraduate admitted applicants for years.

Sasha said...

Have they? I, for some reason, almost sure that for a very long time, UVA has sent freshman decisions, accepting and rejecting, in the same size envelopes. Rejection letters say sorry, acceptance letters say congratulations, we'll send more information in the next couple of weeks. I know it gave a few people I know, who got in, a fright to see a small envelope.

Smiles :) said...

Sasha is right. UVA gives you a small envelope first to inform you of your admittance, then a bigger envelope a few days/a week later with additional information, including your financial aid statement. This is what they did in the past, although this year could be different. I know for a fact that financial aid statements only show on SIS and will no longer be sent in hard copy starting this year, so we'll see...

Chuck said...

I never asked this question before but why are you all applying to UVA ?

UVAfan said...

Chuck, I'm applying because of my love for the school, the want to contribute to a fast growing community like c'ville and the University's great reputation!

Also, Dean J, or anyone that can answer this question for me... I may or may not have asked this before.
But is it true that VCCS students are given priority in the admissions process/decision?

ashley said...

Ok, so there is 2 weeks left of the semester. (that is including finals) and one week until decisions. IT IS KILLING ME!!!! :P i feel like I need to know. I mean the first 7 weeks wasn't that bad, but the last week is going to be torture!

Anyway, to Chuck,

I'm applying to UVa, hoping to continue my dream of becoming a forensic pathologist. UVa offers me a much stronger backbone educationally than where I am now, and I would love to continue my education as a graduate student there in the pathology program that is offered. I have a lot of family that live in a pretty close radius of Charlottesville, so it would be very nice to be closer to them. Another big reason that I want to transfer is that there is definitely a sense of school pride at UVa.
The college I am at now I chose to come to because I could play soccer at a DI level. Even though I am playing soccer, I am not getting quite what I want academically, so UVa offers me an opportunity to continue on academically, and I also have a chance for athletics as well. :)

Anonymous said...

I'm applying because of the "Orange and Blue pride."

UVAfan said...

ashley,

VERY WELL SAID! about the School Pride at UVA. I forgot to mention that, that is another big reason why i fell so madly in love with UVA!
I had visted many schools before UVA...JMU, W&M, VTech, H-SC, even UNC-CH, and Duke! and in none of those schools did i ever feel such a strong sense of school pride like UVA made me feel. It sealed the deal even more because I first visted the school on a game day!

FYI: They have pretty neat/unique tradition for home football games :)

TeapotMonarch said...

Well, in preparation for applying to transfer, I wrote out a list of reasons why I wanted to transfer. It's a fairly long list, but the main reason of why I want to go is the feeling I have there that it's where I belong. As soon as I see Fontaine Research Park, I get a smile on my face knowing I'm back at UVA. Hopefully next year, I'll have that feeling on grounds as a student. Only a few more days guys! Good luck again to everyone!

Anonymous said...

UVA is a great school, I applied for too many reasons to list -- its UVA!

Does anyone know what time of day we find out?

CarrJW said...

The fist year decisions were made available 5pm eastern time. We will possibly find out around the same time.

Blueberry said...

Please let us know of our decision asap! The anxiety is just too much to handle and we need to figure out our options if denied. =/

Kevin Jacokes said...

i think it goes without saying that Transfermer will post more information on the decision release date when it is available. i'm curious as to why people are requesting it...

Anonymous said...

Because some schools have deadlines of when we are to notify them. Some schools are may 1st, some are later. We have less time to think on our options the longer it takes.

Anonymous said...

"As of right now, the decision date is May 1st, just as it says on our website. I will write to you as soon as I know if it will be earlier."

I'm sure Transfermer is already aware of the fact that other schools have acceptance deadlines.

If you're seriously considering (an)other school(s), the safest thing to do is to pay the deposit(s), and if you get into UVA, then simply inform the other school(s) that you're no longer interested. It's what many first years on the waitlist ended up doing...

Anonymous said...

UVA is definitely aware of the other schools deadlines. I had contacted them seeing if it was possible to figure out before the deposit for one school that the deposit is due May 1. They said May 1 is the date we find out for UVA-- and they can't release any information sooner.

So I sent in the deposit and now I'll hope for the best..

Hope that helps

Anonymous said...

why did they give first year decisions like four days before the deadline of april 1st, but they aren't posting ours until may 1st?

Smiles :) said...

I feel as though the fact that first-year notification seems to always be at least a few days before the "set date" has left us transfers feeling like our decisions will arrive earlier as well. Unfortunately, this blog only goes as far as last year, so we cannot look back and see the trend of decision announcements to see if they generally come on the day-of or earlier. Transfermer has stated that last year was the exception to the rule (when most decisions were announced on April 25th) and that they're using a different method to decide on applicants this year so we should except to hear later.

The reason people are asking for more information is because everyone is anxious to know their decision since May 1st is cutting it really close, especially if you have to deal with apartment leases, rooming assignments, summer courses, and just basically planning for your future. I know I sound like I'm complaining (which I guess I am) but I'm just trying to put things into perspective for everyone. Some people do not have that much to loose if denied, where as others do, so just a warning to all those visiting the blog for the next couple of days: expect anxious, repetitive, and unnecessary questions from most bloggers. I hope we can all continue our respectful attitude towards each other for the next couple of days.

TeapotMonarch said...

Well said, Smiles :).

Today, I was at the health center being told i'm allergic to an antibiotic when the doctor asked me if I had any questions.

I told her I have been having really painful headaches in the back of my head. She asked some more questions then finally asked, "Is there anything going on right now that might be stressing you out?" I almost started to laugh.

jt09 said...

All in all, I still don't get it how first years were able to find out early, whereas transfers are being put to the last minute. Yeah the system is new, but wasn't it the same used for first years? I'm assuming the number of transfer applicants was significantly lower than first years... I could be wrong. Oh well.. Only four more days.

Anonymous said...

Good point jt, just wish we had some sort of an update!

Sasha said...

how about instead of thinking about how we all wish we had an update on our decisions, we share what we wish we could have... in the whole world.

I wish that I were Bacchus.

jt09 said...

Well that's easy.. Drugs, money & sex. DUH.

Anonymous said...

To add to what was said, some of us, including me, have apartment leases to handle within a certain amount of time. If accepted, we have to have that time to cancel or we have to pay a fee. I am already past my deadline now... I imagine others who wish to transfer have the same to deal with.

Anonymous said...

Well, Sasha Fierce lol.

I wish I can have.....uhhhh...nvrm
I wish I'm accepted, sorry too anxious.... to think otherwise...

"I know I sound like I'm complaining (which I guess I am) but I'm just trying to put things into perspective for everyone." -Smiles

That's sort of what frustrates me. I really appreciate Transfermer, Dean J, and their respective blogs, and I feel like the complaints and demands for an earlier decision date detract from the positive tone that's been established on this forum.

I just wish instead of complaining about the decision date (which nobody can control -- and have known since before applications were due), people might have try to take advantage of things they can control: speak with/write a nice letter to the person currently managing their lease asking for a short extension on the cancellation date, pay deposits to other schools to secure a spot, etc.

You make a valid point though, that people are anxious and repetitive questions and comments are to be expected.

Transfermer said...

All,
I hope to have an answer for you tomorrow on when decisions will be released. We are busy bees here in the office. We know the comments will keep coming and we appreciate your patience.

Anonymous said...

I hope they are released tomorrow. I've heard that all the decisions were made last week from an actual emloyee..but who knows

Anonymous said...

do you think it matters what school you are coming from? like i read that the gpa for transfers should be around 3.5 but what if you are coming from a relatively prestigious institution and only scored around a 3.2 for first semester? (my second is projected 3.8/9 but i was in transition and had terrible luck with registration) i am from william and mary ps and my high school gpa was 4.0 range

Anonymous said...

Although I am not a very religious person, and this isn't intended to bring any form of religious debate into the blog, the serenity prayer reminds me of this situation. If you don't know it, it goes like this: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference."

Marcus said...

Anonymous,

That was my thing. I had the same GPA as you but everythign else looked great. Im a freshman but I completed like 60 college credits while I was high school. And my GPA in high school was a 4.3. So thats why I am a little worried about the decision. This semester my gpa is like a 3.8. So we'll see how it goes.

Anonymous said...

If you're getting frustrated, there is a simple solution for you: stop reading the comments. You're critique of others is actually spreading the exact negativity you wish to limit.

Chuck said...

I don't mind if the people in the Admissions Office took their time analyzing and reading our essays instead of just rushing through. I would be mad if I was rejected and my essays were just overlooked but I would not be mad if I was rejected and my essays were read carefully. If decisions were to be released on May 1st, it would be catastrophic for me either way because it is my last day of final exams :(
And on this note, let me ask you this question, what does the University of Virginia mean to you?

KJ and Chuck, as always, you've made insightful comments that are level-headed and helpful. I entirely agree with you both (even if I am antsy to get my decision as well). The people in the admissions office work incredibly hard to go over every application and that takes time. We should be appreciating what they're doing, not complaining. Either way, whether it comes out early or not, we will find out in four days. Again, good luck everyone! (I feel like my posts are incredibly repetitive...sorry guys).

this is a post i did not plan on making but have been forced to: my boyfriend is an athlete at uva. therefore, that is where i spend the majority of my time and my hall of my dorm has not let this go unnoticed. when i got back today from another weekend at uva, i found the most recent evidence of ridicule placed in my hall by the people i thought were my friends for everyone to see. (i was voted most school spirited, for uva that is, not jmu). just when i thought i would be fine being at jmu another year, my fellow students reminded me of why i truly want to leave this school. without becoming negative, i would like to hope that whether i am at jmu or uva next year, that the students of jmu will mature. (teapot monarch, are we in the same boat?) transfermer, i come to you with hurt feelings and a TON of hours logged at your campus -- please let there be an acceptance letter with my name on it.

P.S. the point of this post is to emphasize that everyone has their own personal reasons for transferring to uva. i would just like to wish everyone good luck on keeping yourselves together through decision week and finals. we have almost made it. :)

TeapotMonarch said...

I'm so sorry that's been you're experience at JMU. I've had a few snide remarks, but not too many. My friends have been really great about it actually. If you do have to spend another year at JMU, just know that everyone is not like your "friends." There are accepting and nice people here too. (Though, I'm hoping for us both that we can be at UVA, because I really do not like it at JMU...despite having some awesome friends).

@ JMUVAer

I know how you feel. When I tell people I want to transfer to UVA, they just give me stares. I'm like oh well.

Anonymous said...

i am hopefully transferring from tech, and i know all about having people make unnecessary comments about transferring to the rival university. some people just do not, and will not ever, understand why we love uva so much and want to go there. best of luck to everyone :)

CarrJW said...

and how could they...It's a uva thang, you either get it, or ya don't! :)

UVAfan said...

JMUVAer,

I feel you. I'm just like banhr...whenever I tell people where I'm transferring to they always give me this look as if they're saying "Wow, another elitist arrogant snob trying to become more arrogany by goinh to UVA"
I hate it. I honestly think that people just can't handle the fact that we love UVA for so much it offers...they're just jealous lol.
I swear, everyone else I know is either applying to close by schools like GMU or JMU.
I'm the only one applying to UVA from my area...no lie, well at least that's how it feels.

mw said...

I attend JMU and have applied to transfer to UVA. My friends here (I'm a freshman) have been soooo supportive. Once in a while, when we go out at nights do I get some jokes, but they're funny and it helps and truly shows that they're my friends because they'll miss me if I do get in and end up transferring. Being here at JMU was one of the last places I wanted to be (first choice was UVA got waitlisted, second choice was Emory University and was accepted, but financial aid did not work out), throughout first semester I couldn't wait to leave JMU and I was hoping everyday that'd I'd get into UVA and be at UVA. However, as time progressed and finally midway through second semester, I realized how much I have here at JMU -- some of my best friends are now those that I go to college with (and I have a close knit group of HS friends), top extracurricular positions, top of the curve in classes, and nice and friendly professors. I'm still going to go to UVA if blessed with the chance to be admitted, but it will be 100x harder to transfer than I thought it would be first semester. In short, don't hit on JMU or make fun of it because then you do sound like you're coming off as elitist or that you're transfering because you're better, but that's not the case. Every college and university has its own interesting aspects and each school puts an imprint on every graduating senior. JMU is a special place to me, even if I do get the chance to become a hoo, but if I don't I'll always be a proud duke.

TeapotMonarch said...

I'm sorry if I came off as bashing JMU(not sure you were referring to me). I honestly don't hate it; it's just not the place for me. I don't feel like I belong here, and for me, that is one of my motivators for transferring (also, it was my third choice and I had no desire to go to JMU). It really doesn't have as much to do with what I don't like about JMU, but more of what I want, and that is UVA. I'm glad you've had such a good experience here though. And good luck with whatever happens with JMU and UVA.

This is the problem with having 8 ams...when you're waiting for something to be written, but don't know when it will be, you sometimes have a long time to wait. :)

JMUVAer said...

I didn't mean to open a can of worms with my comment. I wasn't bashing jmu, i love the school itself (classes, professors, etc.). I just needed to get something off my chest by venting to people I knew would understand. :) teapot, i had an 8 am as well this morning, and a 9:30, and an 11 am...lol so we are in the same boat! i couldn't wait to get back from class...

Transfermer: thank you for all that you do! i know this blog keeps me from going crazy!

mw said...

No problem and no hard feelings it is just that JMU is a great school and sometimes a few students ruin the reputation and then it gets a bad rap. I know how you feel I too had an 8AM, 10:10, and now I have a bio practical final. I've now checked this blog 3 times inbetween every class to see if the notification we may receive today gets posted on this blog -- pathetic. Good luck to all!

CarrJW said...

You're not pathetic mg, you're just like everyone else on this blog, checking every half hour or so!ha.

Anonymous said...

JMAver- I know how you feel. My boyfriend also goes to UVA and I am getting a lot of underhanded comments about it. What they don't understand is that I just want to go to a school where I can have fun and still get a great education. I currently go to a really competitive school and it's just not for me. I want somewhere where I feel school spirit and want to learn, not just compete for the curve.

Anonymous said...

ha- huge typo: that was to JMUVAer

I'm going crazy! I wish they'd let us know soon!!

ME TOO!!!!! First yrs knew by now....Ahhhhhhh.ha.

I read on the blog from last year that our decision would not be displayed online if we are fall rollovers. Is this true for this year as well? Will I not be able to check my status online? Thanks!

POST THE DECISIONS TONIGHT!

Sydney said...

3 Days! Ahh!

POST TONIGHT!!!! :-D

VAkid said...

I 'm guessing they won't ... Transfermer said he or she would update us.... hopefully Transfermer gives us what we all want to here tomorrow!

Stop adding "TONIGHT" to the frustration, will ya? It'll be out in 3 days because the Office said so.

Friday... 2 days left kids!

this is torture.

like many of you, i had an 8 am class and have been checking every hour almost..

Clarence Quilty said...

post the decisions today

Anonymous said...

looks like we won't be hearing from transfermer tonight, it's past business hours now

Anonymous said...

:( so disappointed...!
Really thought we would be given some sort of update.

Sud said...

I have a lot of finals to study for, I'm just surrounding myself in work to make the time go by faster and to do well. Good luck everyone.

CarrJW said...

I'll second that SUD!

Anonymous said...

Sud, that's a very optimistic way of thinking; too bad my finals don't begin until next week. I'm in that very awkward place where I could be doing work if I felt like it, but don't necessarily have to, so of course I'm constantly checking this blog. I'm actually really crushed we didn't get an update today. Even if it was Transfermer confirming that the decision notification date is still May 1st, I feel like I would have been more content tonight knowing that everything is finalized.

ecs said...

I find it interesting that the first year blog has been updated 4 times since the last time this one was. (Ah the acidic words of another bitter transfer applicant)

Anonymous said...

Everyone is anxious because we were going to be told when we would know when our admission decision is. I think instead of getting bitter that we didn't find out today, we should be excited that we only have a few days left until we will all definitely know. So while the last hours are really hard to stay focused and not get frustrated -- we should be SO thankful for even being updated as much as we are.
This blog is awesome, and so is the fact that we find out so soon. One of the other schools I applied to doesn't let people know until Mid June at the latest.

So...everyone stay positive and hang in there!

Kevin Jacokes said...

"Very tired.
Very little sleep.
Transfer applications.
Phone ringing off the hook.
Non-stop emails.

Hope you all understand. We are very excited for May 1st for many, many reasons."

...from Dean J's blog. clearly they're working very, very hard to get our decisions out.

mw said...

I agree with anon -- I got really excited when we were told we would perhaps receive an update today oh well. life goes on.

CarrJW said...

ecs,

haha. your comment made me laugh! :)

UVAfan said...

KJ,

What do you mean Dean J meant by "We are excited for MANY, MANY reasons"
Is that a good thing? Does it mean we all got in!?
Hahahaha yeah right.
Or am I just overexaggerating on purpose? lol

TeapotMonarch said...

I imagine there will be a lot less phone calls and a nice break for the admissions office once decisions are all out and people have called in with their questions.

Kevin Jacokes said...

^

Sasha said...

oddly, I don't feel particularly anxious right now. That is of course likely to change given I'm just plain fickle, but nice for now.

Anonymous said...

will the roll over transfer applicants find out may 1st, on sis, too?

Sasha said...

Yes, the rollover applicants will find out on the same day as everyone else.

Anonymous said...

so around what time will we be able to see our decision?

TeapotMonarch said...

Transfermer will let us know.

Kevin Jacokes said...

first-years found out at 5:00pm this year, 6:00pm last year, and 5:30pm the year before that, while transfers found out at 5:00pm last year; the pattern being early evening.

however, since past performance is no guarantee of future results...i default to teapot's response. :)

Unknown said...

I just checked my SIS account today and my green circle has changed to a green check mark. Are decisions posted?

EM said...

I don't think so. Mine has been a green check for at least a week. It just tells me to check back on May 1st if I click on it.

Unknown said...

Oh okay thanks. Yea I clicked on mine too it says the same thing. I guess I'm just paranoid and getting really nervous for Fri/kinda hoping maybe they'd be up early for some reason haha. Anyways good luck again everyone!

Anonymous said...

Does anyone have a program advisor assigned to them yet?

Anonymous said...

nope, mine says none assigned under it. do you ?

Anonymous said...

nope, i was wondering if those accepted were assigned one yet.

mw said...

Once again, Transfermer has stated many times that a green check mark does not imply that your decision has actually be reached. He/She said that a green check mark is just a part of the system. On another note we should all take a break from this blog and from UVA in general -- go study for finals! If we don't hear back today or tomorrow what's another 2 days?

Anonymous said...

Another 2 days is 48 hours ;)

mw said...

ahhhhhh so true haha. I figure i've waited this long 4 months... so I'll make it through it. I hope.

EM said...

My finals end today. No more studying to distract me! I do understand that they're very busy and would not make us wait if they could help it. It's just difficult leaving this campus without knowing if I'll be coming back next year. No, I am not complaining. We are all anxious right now, and I'm sure Transdermer understands that. Yes, it would be healthy to take a step back and distract ourselves but I'm not sure that's entirely realistic. If posting on here is a way to relieve stress I approve. It's much better than freaking out in the middle of an exam.

mw said...

completely agree. What makes me confused is they released the decisions last year a week early. An entire week. And what is more confusing is that they said that out of those decisions, there were some applicants where the committees still needed to meet on. Why can't they do that again this year? I'm sure by now they have at least 95% of the applications decided on.

Anonymous said...

Once again, transfermer has already stated several times that last year was a "fluke".

EM said...

The new site might have something to do with it. It sounds like the decisions are made but they're still getting the results to peoplesoft.

Smiles :) said...

Another reason I can think of that has resulted in our long wait is that maybe the people from last year who had to wait until May 1st to hear their decision complained enough to have them decide to send out all decisions at the same time.

Imagine having everyone find out their decision a whole WEEK before you do, but still stay optimistic and wait another week, only to find out that you have been rejected. That would seriously suck...a lot. I wouldn't blame them if they voiced their complaints to the office last year.

Also, as EM said, it could be that the new system is taking a long time to load. I find it slightly strange that we did not get an update yesterday. It's not like Transfermer to say something and not follow through. Granted the statement was "*hopefully* there will be an update tomorrow" but usually Transfermer (knowing that we will all freak-out at any news) does not say something and not do it...I think we can take this as a good sign, since it must mean that everything is finishing up.

If I were any Dean reading applications, I would take a spa day on May 2nd.

Anonymous said...

Even though I know that the admissions office is working hard, and I am thankful for that, I still cannot help hoping for an update...... :(

Anonymous said...

A UVA staff member informed me decisions would be released today, time was not specified.

Who was the UVA staff member who told you this ?
