You can use this post as a space to
make comments or ask questions about the wait list.
If you are interested in staying on
the wait list, please make sure you click the button labeled “remain on the
wait list.” If you don’t do this, we
will not review your file again in the future. Once you’ve clicked it, that
does the trick. This page stays the same
after you click the button in case you change your mind at a later
date. So, if you change your mind and want to leave the waiting list,
please come back and decline the spot.
After the admissions deposit
deadline of May 15, we’ll begin to look to see how many students we can take
off the wait list. These numbers vary
from year to year and unfortunately, it can be a long process. We won’t make
any decisions on May 16th.
There is a bit of a wait. Why? Because we have to wait for your final
exams to end, and for you to send us updated grades. We hope to make our
decisions by the end of June however. Offers are usually made in waves.
How do we make these decisions? We absolutely need to see your transcripts
listing your spring 2017 grades. In
short, send us your final transcript. Trust us. If you want us to look at
your file again, send it along. You’ll
want to do this, but only after your exams are completed and ALL of your grades
are posted. To send this transcript,
please use the same address that appears on the right panel of this
blog. Ideally, you would want to get these to us by the first week of
June, but there is still time after that period. We know there can be
extenuating circumstances. If you were not taking classes this spring, feel
free to send a note/email/letter of continued interest to undergradadmission@virginia.edu.
It will get to the transfer committee, so you do not need to put it to anyone’s
attention. Please do not send us additional essays or recommendations.
If your grades are strong, this may
help you earn the offer, but we can’t offer to everyone from the wait list, so
we’ll be looking at the strongest candidates.
If you earned poor grades this past spring, it would be difficult for us
to admit you.
Our wait lists are divided by
school – Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Nursing, Batten,
Commerce, Kinesiology. So, you are only
on a wait list for that particular program.
It is not ranked, and it is only made up of students who elected to
remain on the wait list. That’s why we
can’t give a firm number of right now. Historically, about 20% of the applicants are offered a
spot on the wait list, but not everyone elects to stay on it.
If you are eventually offered admission from
the wait list and need financial aid information in order to make your
decision, we will do our best to help you with this. If you post here, please be considerate of
each other’s feelings, emotions, reactions and the like. We will delete any
inappropriate commentary. Good luck all!

Hello! I was quite happy to even make the wait list and I just had a few questions regarding it. Upon admission will we be notified via phone call, e-mail, or will updates just be made to our SIS? Thank you very much! Also will grades and available spots in our respective schools be the only deciding factors in our acceptance?
Hello Josh,
We will notify students with offers from the wait list via email. Make sure to check the email that you used in the application!
The review process will be holistic review again of all the parts of the application, but certainly grades, courses, and spots in respective schools will all be taken into account.
Hello. I had a question regarding submitting our final grades, should be submit an official transcript or can it be an unofficial transcript?
Thank you.
Hello Gabriel,
Please submit an official transcript. Thank you!
Hi Transfermer,
I am waitlisted to the College of Arts and Sciences with the hope of potentially applying to the media studies major. I was wondering if submitting a media portfolio might help at all? I understand that I am applying to the school and not the major, but am looking for anything that might set me apart!
Thank you!
Hi Transfermer,
I am waitlisted to the College of Nursing.
My application still says incomplete. Is there any way for me to see if all my transript was being sent to UVA? I was still waiting on my Transcript from Australia, as there is no way for me to track the document.
Thank you.
Hi Transfermer,
I need to complete 4 pre-requisite courses prior to beginning my classes in the fall semester for nursing school. I completed 1 course in the fall of 2016, 1 this spring of 2017 and I am taking 2 of the remaining pre-requisite course in summer of 2017. I have been wait-listed, could that be the reason behind it?
Thank you.
UVAhopeful,
No, we do not review media portfolios.
Abiphsha,
You can keep checking your to-do list for this information. It wouldn't be appropriate to discuss your file in an open and public space like this. You may call the office and ask to speak to the Dean of the Day.
Hi Transfermer,
I have a few questions about the transfer process..
-is a 200 level language course sufficient?
-Do I have to have certain courses to be accepted into a certain school?
-is there a higher chance of acceptance when I apply after completing a full year of college or when I was still a freshman?
Thank you.
I have recently been accepted into a honor society since sending in my original application. Is there a way to update the application?
Thank you
We'll add a note to your file Todd, but for future reference you can write to undergradadmission@virginia.edu. Please send your final transcript once all of your final grades are posted.
EmmaRae,
For most schools at UVA, you need the 2020 level of a foreign language in order to graduate from here. As an incoming transfer, it would benefit you to have completed most if not all of this before you come to UVA.
Yes, please refer to the Transfer Course Requirements on our website - http://admission.virginia.edu/transfer/requirements
This depends on your high school record, and frankly every applicant is different so it's tough to generalize. Typically, the more college work you have, the less emphasis we'll put on your high school record.
I am planning on applying next year for 2nd Year Fall Transfer. I took College Composition I & II as Dual Enrollment, but I will not be applying under the GAA, would you still advise that I take Advanced Composition this Fall? Thanks!
Hi. I understand that historically 20% of applicants are offered a spot on the wait list. Are the historical numbers similar for individuals on the wait list that are ultimately offered admission (ie. will 20% of those waitlisted be offered admission - at least historically)?
Are the numbers for admission off of the waitlist directly linked numerically to those that have rejected the initial offer on May 1?
