On the Wait List?

You may use this post as an umbrella to make comments or ask questions about the wait list.

If you are interested in staying on the wait list, please make sure you click the button labeled “Remain on the wait list.”  If you do not do this, we will not review you again in the future.  The page stays the same after you click the button in case you change your mind at a later date.

After the admissions deposit deadline of May 15, we’ll begin to look to see how many students we can take off the wait list.  These numbers vary from year to year and unfortunately, it can be a long process. We hope to make our decisions by the end of June. Offers are usually made in waves.

How do we make these decisions?  Most importantly, we need to see your transcripts listing your spring 2015 grades.  In short, send us your final transcript. Trust me. If you want us to look at your file again, send it along.  You’ll want to do this, but only after your exams are completed and ALL of your grades are posted.  You’d be surprised how many people send us blank transcripts. To send this transcript, please use the same address that appears on the right panel of this blog. Ideally, you would want to get these to us by the first week of June, but there is still time after that period. We know there can be extenuating circumstances. If you were not taking classes this spring, feel free to send a note/email/letter of continued interest.

The wait list is divided by school – Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Nursing, Batten, Commerce, Kinesiology.  So, you are only on a wait list for that particular program.  It is not ranked.

If you are offered admission from the wait list and need financial aid information in order to make your decision, we will do our best to help you with this.  If you post here, please be considerate of each other’s feelings, emotions, reactions and the like. We will delete any inappropriate commentary. Good luck all!

I was waitlisted for the Nursing program. How many students were accepted and how many were waitlisted? Can I send an updated résumé as well as my final transcript? What about a letter of continued interest? Thank you!

Yes--will there be any information coming out after the May 15 deadline that indicates how many are on the wait list and how many will be accepted from the wait list? What additional materials can we send besides a transcript?

How will those accepted from the wait list be notified?

What do you mean by 'send along our file with our final transcript' - our financial aid file or our entire application? Or both?

Thank you for all of the time and effort put into getting these decisions out to us! I am honored to be on the waitlist, but of course I am also eagerly awaiting the final decision!

i have a couple questions. Could you give us a general yearly average for the amount of spots for wait list? Could you also tell us the average amount of people that go on the wait list?

I understand that you may not have an answer. But your best guess is sufficient enough.

Also if we had to withdraw from one of our classes. Is it a good idea to submit an explanation as to why.

I was waitlisted and was wondering how I could best distinguish myself during the second assessment of students in May and June. I have several professors who could write me more recommendations, but I am also pursuing an independent research project this summer and have applied for a few internships as well. I believe that the opportunity to attend UVA is well worth the wait, so just get back to me when you can, thank you!

I was waitlisted for the nursing program as well and would also like to know how many students were accepted and waitlisted? Will we be updated when spaces are available for those of us on the waitlist?

I, too, was waitlisted for the School of Nursing. With this many students saying that they have been put on the waiting list for the SON it makes it that much more competitive the second time around. Good luck to all those om the waitlists.

I was just wondering, are our applications looked over again before being denied or accepted? Is it like a second look over?

Also, I am planning on taking a summer course, should I contact admissions with this information? And should I also let them know if I would like to add anything to my application?

Thank you for all your help

I was very upset to find out that my friend with ~3.15 GPA and ~1600 SAT score got into Arts and Sciences. He did not have an outstanding extracurricular activities or a spectacular essay (he's a poor writer). I (and I should mention that we're both transfer students from same college) am graduating with honors with 3.42 GPA, 2160 SAT, and above-average extracurricular activities; I got wait-listed. I know all office of admissions are highly biased and I'm taking myself off the waitlist because I got accepted at Georgetown but I'd like to know exactly what got him the spot...

Does anyone ever consider that your GPA and writing skills aren't everything they look at? They consider so many thing, and especially family income. Your friends, whether you know it or not, may have come from a poverty stricken home, so their accomplishments for their situations are extraordinary. Don't always think what you see is what you get, and be happy with what opportunities DO come your way! Everything happens for a reason, just stick with that.

Is is possible to send a recommendation from a non professor now? Also, will adding things to my resume do anything? I was just hired as a legal assistant, and wanted to email admissions to add that to my resume

What email should we send interest letters to?

I am working on answering your questions as best I can. Please check back later today.

When we send in our final grades, do you want a copy of our unofficial transcript or an official transcript with the final report?

If our college is on the quarter system, with final transcripts not available to late June, what do you recommend we should do?

Transfermer said...

Anon from May 4th,
We must have the official transcript. If you are admitted, this is what will be used to evaluate your credit.

Andrew,
Send us an email of continued interest with this information. We’ll do our best to wait, but can’t make any promises. Send the transcript containing 2nd quarter grades if you haven’t already done so and send us unofficial “mid-quarter” grades when that makes sense to do so – mid May? Late May?
