Spring Transfer Review is Underway

Hoos looking to transfer?๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก

Hello and Happy Halloween to you! It’s a crisp, cozy, fall morning here in Cville, and Grounds are quiet in these early hours.  The calm before the storm, with Trick-or-Treating on the Lawn this eveningIt’s a perfect morning to be snuggled up with a blanket, a cup of coffee or tea, and a laptop reading applications.

Wait - what did I type? Yes, reading applications! That’s what our admission counselors, deans, and application readers have been doing these last few weeks. We’re immersed in reviewing transcripts, matching requirements, and reading personal statements - getting to know you, the person interested in transferring to UVA and continuing the next step of your educational journey.

A couple of points for you while you patiently await your spring decision.

Psst - are you really being patient? Personally, that would be hard for me. Hang in there.

  1. Yes, a real-life team of readers is reviewing your applications and materials. We do not leave an important decision like this up to a machine. There are systems in place that alert us if a document is missing or something is flagged for review, but each application is read by at least two individual readers, if not more, before a final decision is made.

  1. Speaking of missing documents, please check your portal and email regularly while you wait. We want to ensure we’re considering all your information. If something seems to be missing - for example, you told us you’re currently enrolled at your institution, but your transcript doesn’t show any fall courses - we’ll reach out for clarification. Your timely response to these requests is exceptionally helpful in allowing us to complete the review of your application.

  1. If you have questions during this process - for example, your portal says we’re awaiting a letter of recommendation, but your instructor, coach, or supervisor says they submitted it - please reach out to undergradadmission@virginia.edu. We can help confirm what we see in the system.

  1. Decisions for spring 2026 transfer admission will be released by December 1, 2025. You will receive an email notifying you of an update in your portal, and decision letters will be available there.

That’s all for now! Until next time, you enjoy a happy Hoolloween! ๐ŸŽƒ

Transfer Waiting List FAQ

I hope everyone's Friday is going well so far. As transfer decisions were released yesterday evening, I'm sure some of you have questions about the transfer waiting list. Below is an FAQ responding to some of these questions:

1.       What does it mean to receive a decision of wait list?

Each year, we get applications from more exceptional students than we have the space to enroll. We extend the number of admission offers that we believe will fill the space available – but, predicting what college students will choose to do can be a difficult endeavor. The decision of waitlist is offering the opportunity to be considered from the waiting list if we have space to make additional offers.

2.       For waitlisted students, what factors is the committee still considering?

At this point, we have all of the information that we need from you; what we don’t know yet is how many offers we would be able to make. We will need your final semester grades once they are available, but otherwise the committee will look at the full application holistically, as it does throughout the review, in the waiting list process.

3.       How many students have been admitted from the waiting list historically?  For each of the schools?

Unfortunately, I don’t have individualized data broken up by school and program, but I can share that previous years are not necessarily helpful in predicting future years. This is especially true for for the many different schools of enrollment in the transfer process, where application numbers can fluctuate from year to year depending on the program. If you’re interested in being considered from the waiting list, you should opt-in via your applicant portal. You should get excited about your other options. And, if we are able to be in touch with you with good news, we will.

4.       When and how will I hear about waiting list decisions?

We will reach out to you via the contact information you provided as part of your application. Any waiting list offers we are able to make for transfers don’t typically happen until mid-June, but please keep an eye on the email address and phone line you submitted as part of your application during that time period. We will notify everyone that the waiting list is closed when we are no longer able to make offers.
