On the Wait List?

You may use this post as an umbrella to make comments or ask questions about the wait list.

If you are interested in staying on the wait list, please make sure you click the button called “Remain on the wait list.”  If you do not do this, we will not review you again in the future.  The page stays the same after you click the button in case you change your mind at a later date.

After the admissions deposit deadline of May 15, we’ll begin to look to see how many students we can take off the wait list.  These numbers vary from year to year and unfortunately, it can be a long process.
We hope to make our decisions by the end of June. Offers are usually made in waves.

How do we make these decisions?  Most importantly, we need to see your transcripts listing your spring 2014 grades.  In short, send us your final transcript. Trust me.  You’ll want to do this, but only after your exams are completed and ALL of your grades are posted. To send this transcript, please use the same address that appears on the right panel of this blog.

The wait list is divided by school – Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Nursing, Batten, Commerce, Kinesiology.  So, you are only on a wait list for that particular program.  It is not ranked.

If you are offered admission from the wait list and need financial aid information in order to make your decision, we will do our best to help you with this.  Good luck all!

  1. Just found out that I got put onto the wait list. Is there a certain deadline that the final transcripts need to be submitted by? Also how important will our spring 2014 grades be in determining whether or not we will be offered admission? Thanks for any feedback!

  2. I was waitlisted and I am just so sad. I hardly have the spirit to wait any more. I really feel that UVA is where I'm supposed to be. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and keep hoping. Thank you for taking the time to consider me.

  3. Just found out I was waitlisted. How many people are on the waitlist for McIntire? Additionally, if I were to send in any additional letters of recommendation would they be considered? Thanks!

  4. I was wondering how many people were wait listed for the College of Arts and Sciences. Thanks!

  5. I'm in an interesting position. I was waitlisted; however I did not send in a recommendation letter with my application. I'm not taking classes currently, so do you think a good letter would push me over the top? Thank you in advance for any feedback.

  6. Admitted and Now whatApril 30, 2014 at 9:46 PM

    Hi,

Is there any way to find out which major I have been admitted to? I was surprised to see nothing about it on the accepted letter online.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Found out that I am on the wait list. I am not currently attending school, is there anything else I can add to my application to help it stand out in the review process?

  8. First, I want to say thank you to the UVA admissions faculty for reviewing my application. I feel accomplished and to other wait listers, you should to. It's not over yet and your extremely hard work has not gone unnoticed. Going forward, I will be taking summer classes where I currently attend and, hypothetically speaking, if I am offered Fall 2014 admission, would these credits be accepted by UVA?

  9. Ben,
Just send them once your grades are posted. We won’t make any decisions until after May 15. Historically, there is no movement until mid-June, but by then we’ve received a number of transcripts from those on the list.

    Foggy,
I am so sorry, but it’s not over yet. Hopefully, you have rebounded from the initial announcement on Wednesday.

    Steve,
About 8% of the students who applied to McIntire were put on the wait list. Yes, you can send in an additional recommendation, but your final transcript is more important.

    Anon,
Just over 500 students were wait listed for all the schools. I won’t be going into the specifics because the number of people who elect to stay on the wait list is always changing. Oh, and we had close to 2400 apply. 35% were admitted.

    Admitted and now what,
We don’t admit you for a major, only for the school.

    Karen,
Good question. In your case, please write an email of continued interest and perhaps a recommendation would help.

    William,
Yes, you will be able to bring over those credits.

  10. Hello!
I am currently studying abroad and will not have access to my transcript or any final grades until mid July. Final grades are not released for my abroad University until the 23rd of June.

I have decided to remain on the wait list, and desperately wish to attend UVA.

The director of my abroad program is able to send a letter on my behalf with the modules I have taken but I am worried that because there will be no numerical/ letter grades in that letter I am going to be at a disadvantage.

Do you have any advice? Is there anything else that I can do? I am willing to do absolutely anything and be incredibly flexible.

    Thanks a million!

  11. Steph,
This makes things a bit difficult. Please send us the letter from your director. We'll do the best we can do with that. In addition, write an email of continued interest to our office. Explain the situation in your note.

  12. I spoke to a woman in the admissions department, and she told me that a lot of the schools are overenrolled for next semester, so the chances of being accepted from the wait list aren't very high. Any idea of how many people are going to be taken off the wait list?

  13. Is a transcript from spring classes the only thing that could take someone off the wait list? I was not in classes this semester and I really want to go to UVA

  14. Transfermer,
Thanks for all of your hard work. I just have a question. There is a good chance that I will be doing a STEM internship over the summer that is very relevant to my desired major. I didn't know about it at the time I applied. Is that something about which I could inform the office of admissions? Thank you so much, and have a wonderful day!

  15. Is it true that mostly sophomores get taken off the wait list? I'm guessing that's true because sophomores have more credits. I'm a freshman right now so it's hard to get that many credits. Is there anything else I can do to strengthen my application.

  16. Hello Transferemer,

I was also put on the wait list and had a questions. When i called into the Admissions Office they said I need to get good grades this semester, that's what they will be looking for. I had 22 credits and received 5 A's and 1 C. Do you think i don't have a chance anymore? Thanks for your time and help, it means a lot to all of us.

  17. Hi,
I was put on the wait list for the nursing school at UVA. Do you have an idea of how many students are on the waiting list there?

    Thank you!

  18. Is there an estimate of how many people are wait listed for the Arts and Science division?

  19. Joan,
The person with whom you spoke did not know you had applied as a transfer. We’ll be taking likely 80+ people off the wait list come June.

    James,
Please write a note of continued interest and remind us of this detail.

    Kitty,
Sure! Please write to our general email address.

    Blu,
It really depends on your high school work and your time in college.

    Anon with one C,
It’s tough to say, but we’ll take your increased load into consideration.

Anon who is on the nursing wait list,
We waitlisted about 15 students. Normally, one or two students come off the wait list.

Anon who is on the College wait list,
There are about 300 students on the wait list.
