Transfer Deposit and Wait List Reminders

I thought I'd kindly remind the admitted students that the deadline to deposit is tomorrow evening at 11:59pm EDT.  If you have decided to turn down your offer of admission, please let us know on your SIS account.

I also wanted to remind the wait listed students that if you want to be considered for the wait list, you must click the button that tells us you want to remain on the wait list.

I will tell you when we'll begin moving to the wait list.  This likely won't start up until early June, but we are not bound to any particular date.  Plus, we are awaiting the arrival of your spring 2012 grades.   Again, I will announce it here when the process begins.

  1. Hi Transfermer,

I was admitted to the School of Engineering and I was curious if the foreign language placement requirement applied to me as well.
Thank you, and I look forward to coming to Grounds this fall!

  2. No, you don't need foreign language for engineering. I encourage you to take a look at the curricula for majors in the engineering school - http://www.seas.virginia.edu/acad/programs/

    HI TRANSFERMER

I'm a chinese tranfer applicant on the waiting list. I've noticed your requirement about the spring term grades, however in China semester ends by July thus it is impossible to send you my grades in time. I wonder if the difference in schooling length between China and US would be kindly considered and if there is anything I can do to make up for this missing material

  4. Hi transfermer :)

I was wondering for spring semester grades should we send an entire new transcript?

    ReplyDelete
  5. hey transfermer! did anyone get off the waiting list for the a-school last year?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Are we supposed to send final transcripts to the same address as we did our first semester grades? (For admitted students that is)

    ReplyDelete
  7. I've been admitted to Clemson already and they need my decision by June 1. Is there any way I could find out a decision sooner because of this? (Note: My Spring grades were released today and I have already requested they be sent)

  8. Chinese candidate,
We will try our best to take this into consideration.

    SOM,
You should just request an updated transcript from your registrar’s office. This should include all of your grades including spring.

    a-school,
    Not that I can remember.

    NotAnonymous,
Yes, send your transcripts to the admissions office (wait listed and admitted students).

    Kb,
It’s unlikely, but this process is a moving target. Keep an eye on the blog.

  9. Hi Transfermer, I was wait listed under the GAA because my GPA was close to 3.4 and I guess the college was waiting on my spring grades to make sure that I would make it. And I got my grades last week and I made it, it is 3.56. So does this mean I would definitely be admitted? All of my GAA required courses are completed. I have other schools that have admitted me. I need to deposit by June 1. I really hope to go to UVA though.

    ReplyDelete
  10. My opportunity cost of waiting for the decision has been quite large! I've paid the deposit and registered their summer classes which I have to take during summer if I end up there next semester. I also paid the summer housing at that school, booked the flight ticket, and received the required vaccination. Their business program is ranked next to McIntire on USnews but their finance major is slightly better. I really like UVA but I don't know if I will still want to attend UVA if receiving an acceptance in late June.

  11. I've both sent and emailed my transcript.

  12. McIntireWait, I totally agree with you. I think it really is such a inconvenience for people on the waitlist because of the deposit deadlines of other schools. There really should be a better way to do this, not saying that UVA admissions is not efficient or something. I know you guys have been working sooo hard. But ahhh, the anxiety & Stress...

    @McIntireWait

    I can't agree more.

  14. I do not see why you guys are so upset about the wait list.. remember, it is a wait list.. its not the admitted students.. Keep in mind that the original admitted students need time to deposit (which is a normal deadline) and they can't work on the wait list until they see who has deposited.. Be grateful that you have an opportunity to be on the wait list.. And please respect the admission offices processes they do a wonderful job!

  15. Hi I am a transfer student and would prefer to visit (the inside) of the student housing available before I decide to live on campus. Is this possible? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I totally respect the admissions office, it is just that I just want to know if the GAA is definitely guaranteed. That way, I will just give up the other school. I just only want to know if having all the required courses and the GPA will get me in, because I know I have it all. That's all.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It's ok. Thanks last anon. I don't think the others are truly upset. It's just the usual jitters. This can be a long process for those of you waiting patiently on the wait list. Not only do we have to finalize our numbers, but we want to give a fair shake to everyone and try to see those spring transcripts. Rest assured, we will be going to the wait list. I'll try to give you an idea of where we are next week.

    Picky,
Unfortunately, housing doesn't do tours or walk-throughs. You can call them if you have questions.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Getmeoffwaitlist,
We'll have to see your transcript to make the final decision.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Will I (admitted to comm, already made deposit, email acc, etc) be contacted about housing options or do I need to apply/investigate?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks a lot, Transfermer. I have already sent in my transcripts last week. I called a couple days ago and they said that they haven't received it yet. I guess I'll check on it next week. It has all my courses and the updated GPA on it.

  21. Hi, I am an admitted student to McIntire. This Summer I will take 2 more classes at NVCC and receive an Associates degree. However, because of scheduling I've had to adjust some of summer classes (f eks Chem instead of BIo) Is this important information for admissions to know? I mentioned that I would complete my 2 mandatory sciences in Summer. I don't know if my acceptance was conditional on these summer classes. I have already sent my Spring transcript final grades, and they are off my to do list. Please let me know whom to contact about this. Thanks!

  22. Thanks for answering our questions.

I wasn't being upset and I'm sorry if it sounded so. I think I can master my patience and I'll move to my new school next Monday as planned.

Thanks again for reading and replying our posts. It's these details that have strengthened my determination to attend UVA.

  24. Greetings Transfermer!

I was accepted recently to UVa as a third year transfer student. My question is about course signups and the transfer orientation.

Before I had done more research, I went ahead and signed up for the transfer orientation; given two choices, I chose orientation session F on July 20th. Later I found out that it was for 2nd year CLAS transfers. I was wondering if it was possible to change my registered orientation session to session E on July 19th? (It would also fit my summer schedule more :D I have emailed orientation at UVa but they have yet to answer)

After hours of discussion with my friends and many more of planning, I have already decided on five classes that I would like to take, do I have to wait until transfer orientation? or could I perhaps meet with an adviser earlier?

    Thank you for your time~!
    Wahoowa, z

  25. It was posted that there would be housing available for most transfer students. However, I just made my application and was placed between #17 and #36 on two waiting lists (different housing areas). This seems like I have 0 chance of getting housing on grounds. So should I look elsewhere for housing, or is this going to clear away come August? Thanks.

  26. Hello Transfermer

I was recently denied admissions to UVA, So I will be taking another year of classes at NVCC. I was wondering if it would be better to retake all the courses I received a C in to boost my GPA or to take a whole set of different courses which in turn would not significantly raise my GPA?

    Thanks for reading!

  27. Greetings Transfermer,

I have had my transfer session changed, so the only question I have left is about earlier class signups!

    Sincerely,

  28. I was also waitlisted as very HIGH numbers on a housing waitlist. I got a message to check back every few weeks. Seems like There is little or no space??

    ReplyDelete
  29. If the people that were admitted are being waitlisted for housing doesn't that mean the waiisted people have almost no chance of getting a dorm? Also is there any update on the waitlist?

    ReplyDelete
  30. my gpa went from a 4.0 to a 3.86...are my chances screwed for the E-school?

    ReplyDelete
  31. It seems as if spring grades are very important in deciding who gets off the waitlist. If I took a year off and don't have any updated grades for this semester, will that put me at a disadvantage?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Are Summer grades as important as Spring grades?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I see that housing is rather booked up, if anyone else is looking for off grounds housing, my friend told me about this great website that has some more off-grounds options!

    http://virginia.uloop.com/housing/

  34. Housing on 5/18,
You should have received an email from Dean Laurie Casteen about housing. If not, I would recommend doing research on your own. The housing department’s website is very user-friendly.

    SummerASGrad,
You would have been told if there were any courses you needed to take for McIntire this summer. You don’t need to report this change if you’re taking science courses.

    Yellowish red,
Everyone meets with their advisor for the first time and signs up for courses at orientation.

Housing waitlist and housingwait, it was my impression that the housing deadline is not until May 25, so I'm not sure how there could be a wait list(WL). I did a little research and found that housing makes offers on June 10. You must be on a WL for a residential college. You may apply for regular upper-class housing(hint, hint: Johnson Weedon Malone is very popular). My hope is that they will also post something about transfers on their blog - http://uvahousing.wordpress.com/.

    Faust Midas,
It’s better to forge ahead and start chipping away at new courses. We recalculate the GPA for any repeated courses.

    Anon,
Nothing new to report on the admissions waitlist.

    Anon with new GPA,
We look at the individual grades, not just the GPA. So, we’ll have to take a look.

    Summergrades,
No, but if you tank in your self-selected summer courses, we may raise an eyebrow.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hello Transfermer,

I had just a quick question I was hoping you could answer for me. How will students who have been placed on the waitlist be notified of the final decision?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Re "No, but if you tank in your self-selected summer courses, we may raise an eyebrow."

The classes are AS requisites, as well as UVA reqs. I couldn't care less about the topics... they're the usual reqs that have nothing to do with my major.

    What if I get C's?

GPA doesn't transfer, and I'm already accepted.

Honestly, I'd rather put energy into something useful...

    ReplyDelete
  37. How much are new letters of recommendation factored into the decision of getting off the waitlist?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I've heard a rumor that if you call every day and express how much you would like to attend the university then you will be more likely to be accepted off the wait list. another rumor i heard was that when making up wait lists there is a network between the schools that agrees on putting students on the wait list but the student gets accepted at one of the schools so that they at least get into one. would you like to comment on any of these rumors?

    ReplyDelete
  39. The first rumor sounds hilarious and the second one sounds impossible.Period.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Holden,
If you are picked from the wait list, you will be emailed, and then you’ll receive a letter in the mail.

    Summergrades,
I would encourage you to stay away from the Cs. Challenging yourself (doing well in courses that may not be your favorite) ahead of your time at UVA will only help you in the long run.

    Letters,
Your spring grades are most important.

    Couple Rumors,
These rumors are false. Calling every day would be completely excessive. What’s most important is that you click the wait list button and send us your spring grades. A small handful have called (once) and some have written letters. I couldn’t even tell you about wait lists at other schools. We have no clue what others are doing and we certainly do not have a network with other institutions.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So then can anything be done for students who don't have any new spring grades?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi, I have been accepted to the A school and made my deposit, submitted my transcripts, applied for financial aid, etc. I now need to sign up for summer classes to catch up with my future classmates, however I still get a "not eligible for summer courses" message when I try to enroll. What might I be missing? Is the health information form I received required before taking classes rather than on the 8/31 deadline it states?

Also, since I need to start classes before orientation, is there someone I could talk to about these things at an earlier time?

    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I've emailed the orientation that I can't make it to the July orientation but I haven't received a reply from them. I sent the email about 4 weeks ago and I really am worried because I am abroad right now. Could you give me some advice? Thank you very much.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If you have any free time would you mind posting a new message just to let us know where you are in the process or just to let us know you're still alive :p

    ReplyDelete
  45. Letters,
You can update us on what you’ve been doing since you applied, that is if you haven’t already sent us something since decisions came out. A letter would be fine as well.

    Slightly Lost,
First, you should email the admission office to tell us that you need to sign up for summer classes. You are currently ineligible because the system only sees you as a fall student. We’ll make the change so that you can register. For questions on what classes you should take or how it all works, please refer back to your offer letter for faculty contact information.

    Still worried,
I would email them again and try to have someone call on your behalf. I think the only thing you need to do is make sure you can sign up for the last orientation session in August.

    Anon,
    No new news.

  46. Hi Dearest Transfermer,

Is it reasonable to expect some decisions within next week?

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  47. About the Decisions - how about within the next two weeks?

    ReplyDelete
  48. What about within the next 1.5 weeks?

    ReplyDelete
  49. what about the next...
sry, I just liked to be June4 :) my actual question is that if we get in, which hopefully we will, what is the deadline for selecting our Fall courses? Aren't the classes almost full already ?

    Thanks Trasnfermer

P.S. To me, your name (transfermer) has been the smartest name in this blog so far ;)it's both cool and suits you well!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Will the decisions be released on the same day or will it be some kind of rolling admission?

P.S. Hopefully, it will come out on June5 since... look at my name.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The process of admitting-waitlisters should be relatively easy, since as you mentioned, what's the most important is the spring grade(course load, difficulty of the courses and grades), almost right?

P.S. I was trying so hard to prove I'm not a robot!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I still have to send my letter that I composed in the beginning of May for the waitlist...Should i still keep it dated May 6th even though I'm only sending it in now...lol

    ReplyDelete
  53. If someone with GPA4.0 is put on the wait list, what is the factor you are looking for in order to get him off the wait list? Obviously, spring grades aren't as significant for him as they are for other applicants because I don't think you want to see more about the academic performance of a student with GPA4.0.

    ReplyDelete
  54. P.S. The student has finished 70 credits.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Can I fax in a letter of intent tomorrow and it will still not be counted as late?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hey Transfermer,

I was curious about final transcripts being sent in...my school supposedly sent it about two weeks ago, but when I go onto my sis account it still says I need to send it in. Not sure if I should be worried it got lost or if uva just hasn't had time to process it/update it yet.

I realize calling or emailing uva is pointless since they don't have the staff to check for me.

    Thanks!
