Hello everyone. I haven't posted in a while because there are no new updates and I wanted to make sure that financial aid post was front and center. We
are indeed working hard to get decisions out by May 1. Yes, unfortunately, all we can promise is May
1. If we are ready and able to release
decisions earlier, I will let you know here.
We wouldn’t want to give you a date, have something catastrophic happen
on our end, and then not be able to deliver. As always, thanks for being patient. Stay warm and dry! That is, if you're on the east coast.
Quick question in light of the overwhelming chaos at the end of a semester... if a transfer student gets a less than favorable grade in one class at the end of the semester, and has gotten into the university, can UVA deny them admittance? Basically, is there any major importance of our final grades for this Spring semester if we do get into UVA? Perceptually this is kind of a dumb question but can they change their mind?
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you haven't forgotten about us. This has probably been answered somewhere, but about how many students are admitted each year through the guaranteed transfer program?
ReplyDeleteuggh i can't wait much longer!! D:
ReplyDeleteI know it doesn't make a difference now.. But i was just wondering once ore about standardized testing. Once you look at the SAT, you said that scores below 500 give you pause, and if you see that every score is above a 500 how much more closely do you analyze the score?
ReplyDeleteAH only one more week max anxious! (:
Literally sick with anxiety! Why do decisions have to be at the same time as finalsssssss
ReplyDeleteI'm under GAA, does that really mean I'm guaranteed admission or just a higher chance of getting in? I'm as nervous as anyone else not under GAA!
ReplyDeleteahh my decision was just made! hope it's a good one!
ReplyDeleteHow did you know that?
ReplyDeleteHe/She probably just had her green circle turn into a green check :D
ReplyDeletelol your decision was made at 11:30?!?! hahha. seriously though. I wonder how long it takes the SIS to update that symbol after the decision.
ReplyDeletetransfermer, i was curious about financial aid. does it show up on everyones to do list or only those who are going to be admitted?
@freaking out
ReplyDeletemy circle turned into a check around the same time as yours! you wouldn't happen to be applying to the school or architecture, are you?
oops. i meant school of* architecture lol
ReplyDeletehey madison, what program did you apply for in the A school?
ReplyDeletehey madison, what program did you apply for in the A school?
ReplyDelete@hungergames yeah the circle finally turned to a check after all this time! transfermer indicated in a previous post that this really did mean some sort of decision was made and since we are approaching the decision day, it's probably the final decision.
ReplyDelete@hungrygames are you two the same person? happy hunger games and may the odds be forever in your favor! yeah that's just when i noticed it. perhaps it was made earlier that day or maybe it does take a while to update. who knows?
@madison CAS
No we are not the same person!
ReplyDeleteHungrygames, I was thinking the same thing about the financial aid thing. It says its due may 25 or something which is clearly after may 1.....hopefully this means out decision is a yes!
ReplyDeleteour*
ReplyDeleteMy decision was made about a month and a half ago. i hope that's i good thing...i just can't wait any longer!
ReplyDeleteAnon! I know!! I have a bad feeling it doesn't mean anything though. I think financial aid and admissions are two different groups and that they send the same message to everyone..
ReplyDeletei think it just means if we get accepted that is when it is due. i don't think it means we actually are. they just send that to everyone. obviously admissions would tell the other department not to send something to only admitted students when decisions aren't released.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that I applied somewhat early and I still have yet to see a green check. I know this doesn't mean I'm not admitted but for some reason it adds to the anxiety. So nervous for May 1!
ReplyDelete@financial aid people
ReplyDeleteReally? I remember hearing that in several of the previous years, people who got additional documents to do on the to-do list after getting the check mark were usually accepted! I'm not talking about the actual financial aid like fafsa or css but documents like verifying the number of siblings you have attending college or submitting your 1040 (all with due dates after the decision date!). I still have yet to see new things on my to-do list though .... :(
@walala
ReplyDeleteReally? Man, I don't have anything new on my to-do list either but I do have a green check mark. So if that is true, I guess I might not be admitted.. :(
@Hoping and Praying
ReplyDeleteI'm not positive at all so don't lose hope!!! hahaha I guess that is my pep talk to myself as well. It's just what I've heard and now I'm reading all the posts from last year on CC and seeing whether it's true or not and there does seem to be a connection...the name of the thread is Official UVA Transfer Thread Fall 2011 and they start talking about the financial aid things on page 11...if you want to read with me :D
@walala
ReplyDeleteDo you live in Virginia? Because I have a comment next to the green check mark that says "Eligible for in-state privileges." I don't know if everyone who lives in VA gets this message or not but I was just wondering if this has anything to do with admission. And I was trying to find the thread named Offical UVA Transfer but I couldn't. Do you know the exact date of the post so I can go ahead and look at it?
@Hoping and Praying
ReplyDeleteYes! I have that but I think everyone eligible has that. I've had it all the other years I've applied to UVA and gotten rejected haha :(
Here's the exact link for it!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1110296-official-uva-transfer-thread-fall-2011-a-11.html
@walala and Hoping and Praying:
ReplyDeleteThe comment next to the green check is just to indicate whether or not you qualify for in-state privileges. I'm an OSS and mine says "not eligible for in-state privileges". It doesn't indicate whether or not you've been accepted. :)
i just got multiple emails about important documents needed for financial aid..so they weren't only on my sis i got emails as well.. hope this is a good thing!!!
ReplyDeletei honestly don't think it means anything though. i really think admissions and fin aid are totally separate.
ReplyDeleteMy SIS now shows something about enrollment dates and had a spot for an advisor... was that always there?
ReplyDelete@Sara
ReplyDeleteThose have been on my page at least since I first logged onto SIS, and I don't even have a stinkin check yet.
Enrollment dates? A spot for an advisor? God, reading these comments really makes me feel quite hopeless. My SIS account is a wasteland.
ReplyDeleteAh, nevermind, they're on the right side. Nevermind! I do have a check, had it since the second week of April, but that, I believe, means absolutely nothing, except that a decision has been made. This is my third time applying and the circle/check thing doesn't have anything to do with whether you've been admitted or not. At least that's what I understand. I can say, though, that the wait is still agonizing as ever, perhaps even more than it was the other times! Ah!
ReplyDeletePL,
ReplyDeletedo you have extra financial aids to do? do you remember if you had them in the past years?
Anon, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "extra" - I've only had to submit the FAFSA and the CSS Profile thing. I'm out of state so it might be different for VA residents.
ReplyDeleteoh well I've gotten things like a 1040, verify household size (or something like that), and another thing i don't remember at the moment. do any of those things sound familiar?
ReplyDeleteI don't think that they are an in state privilege thing.
that is gotten an email about them and had them placed on my to do list.
ReplyDeleteThe CSS form requires a lot of things like that - household size, tax forms, even how much I spent on medical bills last year. I also had to send my W-2 and my 1040. There should be a list of everything you need on the financial aid website.
ReplyDeletePS I've never had anything on my to do list or gotten any emails from the school about missing documents. I've been at this for over a year; I have it down to a science :)
ReplyDeletepl,
ReplyDeleteso you did get them on your to do list? did they email you about any of the financial aid stuff besides the main fafsa and css?
oh whoops! saw the before you posted the second! sorry about that :)
ReplyDeletedid you get accepted the past years? sorry my responses are coming in at a rapid rate.. I'm so nervous. keep refreshing the blog (:
Sadly, no. :) I'm adament about going, though. If I'm not offered admission this time, I'm relocating to Virginia as 2/3 of the applicants admitted are in-state. They keep me away!
ReplyDeleteAlso [and I'll probably be scolded for this later by Transfermer :)], both times I applied before, they released decisions the last Friday of the month. Not May 1. That doesn't mean they'll do it this time, too, but it may be worth your time to keep an eye on the blog the next couple of days.
Wow, sorry, I'm adamAnt, and they CAN'T keep me away! I'm trying to watch the hockey game and type at the same time. haha ^_^
ReplyDeleteIf you wish decisions come out on this Friday, post ⬇ to support:
ReplyDeleteDecisionFridayPlz!
lol just for releasing anxiety:
ReplyDeleteDecisionFridayPlz!
Uh-oh. I posted that for information purposes only. I take no responsibility for any ensuing vendetta.
ReplyDeleteOr any riots.
ReplyDeleteLETS GO BRUINS!!
ReplyDeleteI think financial to-do-list thing makes sense, which is very similar to Cornell's housing issue.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I also hope to receive a decision on Friday.
lol did you receive those extra to dos international?
ReplyDeletewhat is cornells housing issue? honestly have no idea about cornell admissions.
Unfortunately, internationals will not receive any aid and we have to submit a certificate showing a certain amount of money ($50,000+) to complete our application. So there is no way we will receive anything on to-do-list.
ReplyDeleteCornell's housing issue:
ReplyDeleteIn almost all cases, if you can log in housing, you are in. But not vice versa.
Wow, that is certainly unfortunate!
ReplyDeleteThats interesting about the Cornell thing, I hope that is the case with UVA fin aid. I do not want to get my hopes up for it though :/
I do wonder why transfermer doesn't address this issue in more clear terms. It seems when she addresses it, she is a bit vague. I hope they release early as well!
Wonder what it means for those that have no financial aid and there is no need for further documents, due to siblings lack of higher education.
ReplyDeletePlus, I am doing the GAA and my GPA is well over the required mark.
anon @ 10:45,
ReplyDeletedo you have a check or circle? i think its suspicious how the extra fin aid to dos are coming out (to a more limited number) once the symbol changes.
I have a check, but my siblings did not do higher education, and I am not seeking any financial aid. So there is no additional information needed from me in that regards.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping as I am completing my GAA and I am over the required GPA level and have taken all of the classes that I will be accepted.
do you guys think that having siblings attending UVA better your chances of getting in? I ask this because I have a sister that goes there now.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this blog is supposed to be used for answering legitimate questions about transferring to UVa. As a suggestion, perhaps Transfermer can make two blogs. One for casual chit chat for prospective transfer students that transfer students already attending UVa can get on to and answer questions, and another for the main process of admissions and financial aid as well as important notifications. Like I said, it's just a suggestion. (:
ReplyDeleteThis question will probably get lost in all the discussion, but I read that there were 160 applications to the SON. How many spots are available?
ReplyDeleteFight on !
ReplyDeleteTransformer said there were 160 combined traditional BSN and Rn-BSN applicants and didn't have the numbers split. And that there are 10-15 spots for traditional. I'm assuming, from looking at past stats that about 35 applicants were for RN-BSN and the rest were for the traditional. Hope this helps!
ReplyDelete@Classics Fan:
ReplyDeleteThere is another blog dedicated to students who are have applied to transfer to UVA for Fall 2012. Someone else posted the link earlier in the Thread. Here it is:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1110296-official-uva-transfer-thread-fall-2011-a-11.html
Hope this helps. :)
@NurseUva
ReplyDeleteThanks! That's exactly what I wanted to know.
I have high hopes to receive a decision tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSaw you guys talking about the decisions for past years. Though those were released on the Fridays before May, they were all in the case that all those decision date (May 1st) were during weekends. But, in the case this year, it will be on next Tuesday, so...do not expect to much guys.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused why it's taking this long though, because they released all freshman decisions at least a week in advance. I would think that would give them an early start on doing ours unless they just took that week off... I don't think they released freshman decisions that early last year, and they had transfer decisions done by 4/29 I believe.
ReplyDeleteBasically, I feel like they should be done by now, unless they're just being lazy. I'm just frustrated and can't wait much longer :(
I think you also have to factor in that not only did they have to contact applicants for missing information once, but they had to do it twice. Due to some people missing documents and important information, that could have easily put them back to their intended release date. Which, really, isn't that far off!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm just a little bit confused why different colleges/departments have to release transfer decisions at the same time. I'm pretty sure McIntire has done its decisions since it has only around 250 applicants.Probably CAS is still making some final decisions.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh I'm freaking out! I just saw on the blog that the Mid-Term Report was recommended and I had no clue!!!! Is it bad that I didn't send it? Is it also too late to send it if I already have the green 'View Decision' checkmark ?
ReplyDeleteI think it's too late. Your mid-term report (probably final report at this time) will likely arrive after decisions has been released.
ReplyDelete*have
ReplyDeleteI CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER...so anxious!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous Mid-term,
ReplyDeleteI asked about this just recently, and transfermer indicated it was too late in the process to submit this report.
If you are admitted or waitlisted, the office will request your final semester grades.
I hope this helps.
I'm with ya Kim
ReplyDeleteit seems that all the people who have the to-dos on fin aid think theres a correlation.. (probably to give some hope)
ReplyDeleteand that all the people who don't have them are trying to come up with reasons why thats not the case..
its like every applicant is trying to justify what they have and being super defensive. of course there are the humble or pessimistic who think that they are rejected.. but the ones who are super defensive and think they have perfect stats and are certainly accepted are starting to bother me.
i didn't apply for financial aid so i hope it's normal that i have no to-dos!
ReplyDeleteHey everybody,
ReplyDeleteLet's all just take a deep breath and calm down. We're all nervous; it's exam time, etc. Let's focus on what really matters instead of over-analyzing a computer system. What will happen will happen, spazzing will not help you this late in the game. So everyone take a deep breath and relax. Good luck to everyone and please stay calm.

ReplyDeletehahah just kidding! I WILL TRY TO BE CALM. :| IT IS REALLY HARD.
So anxious, also tomorrow there's gonna be a midterm~anyway Go Bruins! wish everybody good luck
ReplyDeleteAwe............... Where is transfermer???? Preparing for tomorrow's decisions?
ReplyDelete@ChillAX,
ReplyDeleteI know. I'm doing an all nighter in my library and I can't stop thinking about decisions myself.
Anyone up for starting a UVA fall 2012 transfer support group?
ReplyDeleteI'll bring cookies to this support group meeting!
ReplyDeleteI know that the anxiety has been building as we near May 1st, but we would appreciate some respect and understanding for and of our processes. We do more than the reading of applications. We travel, we recruit prospective students, we recruit admitted students, we advise transfer and first-year students, we take phone calls. The list could go on. From late March and through April, we have hosted close to 20,000 visitors.
ReplyDeleteI realize emotions can swell in this anonymous forum. You are welcome to seek comfort and camaraderie in one another's anxiety and excitement, but please do not criticize the admission process or the admission staff and our contacts.
It is our pleasure to give you decisions by May 1st - a date that is clearly posted on our website. We never promise anything earlier. It'll just be a little while longer. Thanks for your patience, thanks for reading and thanks for posting.
Hey Everyone,
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd leave a little uplifting comment to all my fellow Wahoo hopefuls. I hope we all get in!!!!!!!! We deserve it!
Sounds like there won't be any decision tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteTransferemer,
ReplyDeleteI would like to apologize on behalf of all my fellow transfer applicants. The anxiety has gotten the best of us and we all just want the process to be over. We all appreciate your hard work throughout this process and all the feedback you have given us. We are privileged to have this blog in the first place so I want to thank you for that. Hopefully everyone who reads this realizes that some comments were unnecessary. Again, sorry for some of the comments and hopefully the decisions will come out soon so that we can see our decisions and you can have a well deserved break.
Agreed. Thank you so much for the invaluable information and advice you have provided us. No matter what the decisions bring, I am grateful for all of the hard work you have done for us. I hope I can pay it back some day.
ReplyDeletei second that anon above. you are doing us the favor by keeping the blog and reviewing our applications so we can be admitted into the school. without all of the committees work, this would not be possible. Thank you very much transfermer for everything you have done! I am patiently awaiting the decisions.
ReplyDeletethat reference i made was meant to go to everyone needs to relax. sorry, i didn't realize it was not anonymous until i submitted.
ReplyDeleteOk, but if I emailed the mid term report today because i didnt know that it was part of the application today does it hurt me? I sent it and I dont mind if it doesn't count but if it hurts that would really be bad :(
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteI don't think being thorough is going to hurt you. However, my guess is that your report won't even make it through the mail before decisions are all made and released.
If it did, I can't see how it would hurt anyway. Just enjoy your weekend! :)
I concur with "Everyone Needs to Relax." While I can certainly relate to the high levels of anxiety associated with exams and UVa decisions, it does not excuse some of the statements made by other people on the blog. Those statements do not reflect the opinion of everyone on the blog and know that many of us are grateful for your time and effort.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping to hear the decision today....
ReplyDeleteI got two different emails about financial aid, a phone call and also some new things showed up on my to do list. Did everybody have that happen? Last year I applied and I was waiting list and I don't remember getting no emails, or
ReplyDeleteNew things on my to do list.
We still might hear back today. I highly doubt it though. I'm sure they would have notified us at least a day in advance prior to releasing decisions.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @ 7:27AM,
ReplyDeleteCan I ask what the emails said and what was said during the phone call? Were they about you having to resend the FAFSA or CSS or were they regarding only new materials that needed to be sent in?
I got a Financial Aid email, but nothing else on my to do list, I'm going crazy trying to keep myself calm about it! Hopefully we will know something tonight or Monday!
ReplyDeleteTo send the 1040, student and parent sign, household verify and something else that I can't remember showed up on my to do list
ReplyDeleteSorry the post on the top it's @ Wahoowa. I cant get the blog to work right on my phone. Pretty much the phone call was about the CCS and the documents that were missing. But I don't if it is different because I am an independent student
DeleteThanks transfermer!!!!!
ReplyDeletewho wants to make a facebook group?
ReplyDeleteWHOO DECISIONS TONIGHT!
ReplyDeleteI don't think we are getting them tonight.
ReplyDeleteOH WAIT!! JUST GOT THE EMAIL!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDECISIONS AT 5.
ReplyDelete....server better not crash... at least there aren't as many ppl applying for transfer admission as 1st year admission so maybe sis won't crash. who knows....
Just curious...where does it say 5PM? The email just says "evening of April 27."
ReplyDeleteAhhh I've been sooooo excited/anxious/nervous for this moment and it's finally here!! Thank you Transfermer for all of your help throughout this process.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to everyone! =)
Excellent catch Anon at 12:16p. Stay tuned. I wanted you all to see the email before I posted again.
ReplyDeleteHey! Let's stop using Anonymous and make up names. How will I ever answer the questions of so many anonymi next week?
ReplyDeleteI love you guys. Thank you so much <3
ReplyDeleteI just called Undergraduate Admissions! A nice representative said 5 p.m. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd, Transfermer, if we are offered admission/go to UVA next year can we meet you?? I really do want to thank you for all the work you've done in composing this blog. I second what "Everyone needs to relax" had to say about the comments.
Best of luck to all who applied!
/*may the odds ever be in your favor*/
Transfermer, I have a quick question. What happens if we get in, but we've changed our mind on the department we want to get into? For example, if we applied for the college of art and science, but now would like to get into the engineering department? Is that an issue?
ReplyDelete
