Financial Aid is available for permanent residents and citizens of the U.S. If you've applied for aid in the past, you know that heavy-duty paperwork is involved. The preferred deadline to apply for financial aid was March 1.
The absolute final deadline is April 30. If you want to apply for financial aid, we require a number of forms and documents including the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. If you do not complete all of these forms by April 30, you could miss out on being considered for certain types of aid.

Hi Transfermer,
ReplyDeleteIf I had all of my paperwork in by the March 1st deadline, if accepted, will my preliminary aid package be released alongside my admissions decision on May 1st?
Thanks!
So the CSS Profile is required for transfers also?
ReplyDeleteJP,
ReplyDeleteGood question. Financial aid awards typically come out a few days after decisions if the student has turned in all necessary paperwork on time(March 1). Keep an eye on your To-Do List as Student Financial Services may request extra materials from you later on in their process.
CSS,
Yes, both forms are required for anyone applying for aid from UVA.
I had already submitted my FAFSA and CSS profile, but I have not sent in a copy of my parents' tax forms. Where should I send the tax form stuff?
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you guys are looking into this. Sparkling, there is a fax number listed about halfway down the page of the first link - http://www.virginia.edu/financialaid/enter12-13.php
ReplyDeletewhen you said you guys had 2350 applicants does that mean applicants who had complete applications? Or does that include those who you sent the email to with missing documents?
ReplyDeleteDear Transfermer,
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many Engineering applicants there are this year?
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI don't know where else to pose this question, but I was curious about transfer of GPA. If you transfer in will your GPA transfer along with your classes, or will you only have a GPA from classes taken as a UVA student?
Thank you!
Did anybody got an email from financial aid from UVA
ReplyDeleteI got an email from Fin Aid.
ReplyDeletedo midterm grades play a larger role for current freshman than they do for current sophomores?
ReplyDeleteI am over 26 and completely independent of my parents financially. Am I still required to submit their tax information?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I THINK I've submitted all the forms, I don't have a 'to-do' in my sis, should I call finaid office to double check?
ReplyDeleteNumbers,
ReplyDelete2350 is the number of students who applied.
Engineering,
We received about 260 applications.
Anonymous,
Your GPA starts over once you transfer.
P and bina,
This email came from us in the admission office, not financial aid. You got this email because you checked a box on the application that said you were considering applying for need-based financial aid.
Midterm,
No.
AR,
If you are completely independent(over age 24) and you’ll be paying for school, you do not need to fill out their information.
Call to check?,
They are quite busy right now, but if you must call, you can.
I corrected my FAFSA so that it includes UVa and submitted my CSS Profile today. Should I email the admissions office to let them know or is that not necessary?
ReplyDeleteHow many Nursing applications did you receive?
ReplyDeleteHi Transfermer!
ReplyDeleteThank you for answering all these questions! It's a really big help! I was wondering, are you guys making decisions in any particular order? As in, are you making decisions on all the college of arts and sciences applicants, than once those are done you move on to engineering applicants and so on? Also, how many architecture applicants did you receive?
Hi! How many traditional BSN applicants did you receive? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking back on the past couple years posts and I think I might have noticed a trend. Do you think that you usually send out decisions the Friday before May 1st? If that were the case then it would be next Friday, April 27. I really hope that you can send them out as soon as possible. Thank you for all your hard work!
ReplyDeletei know you've explained the meaning of a checkmark and a circle.. I know they both mean complete.. but is there anyway you could explain the difference between the two?
ReplyDeleteI'm scared.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I was getting worried because it seemed like everyone or at least a lot of people's sis was saying it changed to check, but mine was still a circle. Today it turned into a check. I wonder what it really means though.
ReplyDeleteOMG....Mine is STILL a check!!!
ReplyDeleteShould I get worried?
I think it is supposed to be a check. It changes from a circle to a check...do you mean it is still a circle?
ReplyDeleteIs it supposed to be a check or circle? Mine is a CHECK!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter what it is. He made an entire post explaining that it doesn't matter which one it is. Even if it does mean something, it doesn't matter because decisions won't be released until May 1st. People need to really chill with this check and circle thing. On a side note, CAN'T WAIT/dying of anxiety FOR MAY 1st.
ReplyDeleteDo international McIntire applicants whose first language is not English have to meet this requirement
ReplyDelete"Foreign Language:
Completion through the 2020 level"?
Thanks.
I finished 2 of my 3 Spring classes early (with As). Would it be helpful if I sent my transcript again once the new grades are visible?
ReplyDeleteI'm dying of anxiety as well. Just another week or so and everyone will know where they're going to be next fall. Regardless of how things end up, this has been pretty freakin exciting!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Don't worry about it if is a check. I think it is supposed to be a check by now. My applications to other universities also do the same thing. First it is complete, and then when it gets closer to decision day or if they are about to give you your decision, it'll switch to a page that says "decisions not available, come back later" something like that. Its a step by step process. So don't worry. I personally think it probably means your decision has already been made though.
ReplyDeleteMy status is still a circle...
ReplyDeleteReally desire the decision.
Dead week is coming... Hope decisions will be released next Friday (April 27th)~
ReplyDeleteSo of the 2350 students that applied, that covers all of the "transfer" students, correct? In the pool of 2350, does that number include people that hadn't completed their application as well?Back to the main question though, in that sense, seeing how there were 260 received for the engineering program, X amount for the nursing school, and others, does that mean that their are underlying percentage chance for different programs? Meaning that certain programs would be easier to get into and so on? I only ask because I was curious if the general program of arts and sciences was at a higher yield than that of 30% acceptance rate. The only other question I had was about the reseting of your GPA, so you mean to tell me that if you're admitted, your GPA at your previous institution is completely "wiped" in a sense? Meaning that the last two years or your study (granted you've completed two already) will feature the GPA that you'll have for Grad/Med/Dental/Law etc. school?
ReplyDeleteHey,the one above,What does Cavboy mean?
ReplyDelete@21,
ReplyDeleteCavalier boy, I would assume
That’s my real name.
ReplyDeleteCavboy Since Zygote
Oh, Cavboy!Hope we all get in!
ReplyDeleteyou're applying to UVA... shouldn't you know what cavboy means?!
ReplyDeleteIndeed cavboy. Keep in mind that when you apply to graduate schools they will request all of your college transcripts, so they will still the GPA you earned at your previous university.
ReplyDeleteTo the one above,
ReplyDeleteSorry for upsetting you but I don't think every international applicant should know what cavboy stands for. And to be frank, it was my first time to encounter this word.
21jumpstreet, don’t even worry about something as trivial as my lame online handle. It’s just a joke honestly, Cavalier Boy Since Zygote, it doesn’t even make sense, the zygote doesn’t have a sex, so it was just a funny thing to say, at least I thought. Hope you get in though, that’d be a great experience for you. Virginia is nice.
ReplyDeleteA zygote does have a sex as its a diploid cell. A healthy, single cell does contain diploid chromosomes with either XX or XY genotype on the 23 chromosome which determines its sex.
ReplyDeleteI'm the first one on this thread to use "Hungergames". Please change your name. Thx.
ReplyDeleteI just said that because I just saw it tonight for the first time. Please spell correctly, thanks.
ReplyDelete^LOL
ReplyDeleteIs it May 1st yet...refreshing this page is so tiresome.
post.script.
ReplyDeleteI can use whatever name I choose.
LOL SERIOUSLY!!! Cant wait for the first of may. Are you guys anxious about opening the decisions?!
ReplyDeleteBeen anxious for years...hahaha I feel like this blog is more for questions. Everyone transition to CollegeConfidential!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1294960-official-uva-transfer-thread-fall-2012-a-8.html#post14254208
hi transfermer, any update would be much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteHF,
ReplyDeleteYou did what you need to do to get the ball rolling.
NursingUVA,
We received about 160 applications. I don’t have the breakdown for the traditional BSN and RN-BSN programs.
Longell,
Decisions are being made for all schools at the same time. There are many wheels going at once, if you will. We received somewhere around 60 applications.
Sis symbols,
A check means at some point in the cycle a decision has been made, but it is most likely not the final decision. There are changes that can occur leading into May 1. Again, a strange and unfortunate function of peoplesoft.
Titanic,
They would prefer that you take the SAT Subject Test or AP exam to show proficiency in your language.
Spring transcript,
It would be better to just hold for now. If you are admitted or waitlisted, once the third grade is posted, you can send the transcript.
CavBoy,
The College of Arts and Sciences has the most spots available. You can look at previous years’ records to see what the admit rates were in the past. http://www.web.virginia.edu/iaas/index.shtm Anon below is right about the GPA. When you start at UVA, you have to build a new GPA, but graduate schools will request all transcripts.
