Thank you for bringing up the strange email you may have received yesterday. We got some phone calls about it as well. That email was directed towards first-year students. NEW: We sincerely apologize for the confusion surrounding the initial email. You should receive a follow-up email tomorrow(4/22). Here are the contents of that message:
Dear Student,
Thank you for applying to the University of Virginia as a transfer student. We are quickly approaching the decision release date. In order to access your decision, you will need to be able to log into your Student Self-Service account. If you have not yet logged in or have questions about logging in, please contact the UVA Help Desk in the upcoming days. The Help Desk is available 24 hours a day by calling 434-924-4357. In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, we will only mail welcome packets to admitted students.
If you received an email yesterday suggesting that the May 1st deadline is approaching for deposit, please disregard that message and accept our apologies for the confusion. That message was designed for our first year applicants whose deposit deadline is approaching, but it seems that some of our transfer applicants may have received the message as well.
After transfer decisions are released, admits will have about two weeks to deposit, and I can guarantee that your deadline, yes, you transfer applicant reading this, will not be May 1st.
Thanks for the clarification. It was really confusing. We don't have too much longer to wait now, but the email really didn't help that process of distracting ourselves from the wait...lol.
ReplyDeleteI am signing off before I distract Transfermer from reading the rest of the applications.
If we didn't receive the email, does that does that spell bad news for us?
ReplyDeleteGrr just another thing to mess with my sanity.
Transfermer,
ReplyDeleteMy to-do list has been updated a few times now with various financial aid documents. The first time, the due date was May 14. I sent those, and they were removed. Then today, two more items appeared with a due date of May 21. Is there a reason for the change in deadline, or why it is so long past May 1 (I was under the impression that financial aid awards would be posted within a few days of admissions decisions)?
Me too Brittany...except one of mine had a due date of 03/25/2011 which is wierd considering it only showed up today and involves waiting for them to mail me a form...I will really need an enrollment deposit waiver if I get accepted so I can accept and apply for student family housing before its gone.
ReplyDeleteTransfermer, Thank you for this blog.I've been following it throughout the process and really appreciate the information shared. It has been very helpful and I have been very clear on everything until now. I have the same question as Land of Confusion. If this email was not received, does that mean there will not be an offer for transfer admission for Fall,2011? Please let us know. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLand of Confusion, Also Confused: I'm pretty sure that isn't the case, as, even if the email was correlated with offers (which it probably was not) they haven't even finished the review process! I'm equally freaked out waiting for this last week to pass, and the email doesn't help, but logically, I don't think we can look at as anything more than slightly more elaborate case of hitting reply all when you didn't mean to.
ReplyDeleteJohn
Has anyone received email from financial aid office asking them to turn in information? I haven't heard from them and I'm freaking out. Does that mean I did not get in?
ReplyDeleteJohn, Thank you so much for your reply. You're probably right:) I hope so!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for a decision today.
ReplyDeleteLand of Confusion, Also Confused, I thought the same thing. It's...troubling. I'm already freaking out so badly. I didn't need something else to make me feel even more hopeless about all of this. But I think it could have been for any number of reasons. Maybe some transfer applicants' addresses were mixed in with the first-years' by accident. Peabody is probably very, very busy after all, and it might be difficult to stay perfectly organized. I'm trying to stay positive...
ReplyDeleteI know that the online decisions get posted on Sunday, May 1st, but when do we get the letter in the mail?
ReplyDeleteI didn't receive any E-mail on Apr.21, is that means I was rejected?
ReplyDeleteIf we didn't recieve emails on April 21st or 22nd should we contact IT Tech Support? I didn't get the first email with the SIS login either, I had to call the Tech Support then as well.
ReplyDeleteI havent received the first email directed towards first years nor the email posted above....im beginning to worry this might indicate a rejection? Kind of difficult to feel optimistic :/
ReplyDeleteWould be one thing having had it sent to all transfers but another to only to a select few....really hoping im wrong though! One more week!
Does anyone know which email account it went to? Was it the email account you listed in your application or is there a UVA email account associated with the SIS? I am starting to worry as well that not receiving the email means that you are not being offered admission mainly because of the way both emails are worded.
ReplyDeleteTransfermer, are the transfer applicants who received the emails the only ones who are being offfered?
ReplyDeleteDid any of you even read the blog post? It clearly says the email was a mistake. If you did not get it, it doesn't mean you were rejected. Chill.
ReplyDeleteCalmDown is right. The fact that you did or did not get an email has nothing to do with transfer decisions. It was a terrible mistake in a mix-up of our system that runs lists. Again, we apologize for this mistake. I hope you all can enjoy the rest of the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI think that people are worried about not getting the follow up e-mail on the 22nd after the mistake e-mail was sent. What does it mean if we did not get the followup?
ReplyDeleteSo glad that my application is up against a bunch of goofballs who can't comprehend a simple e-mail mix-up.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Shouldn't everyone have received the follow up email? The FIRST email was a mix up. The second email addresses all transfers. I think were all just freaking out and taking every little thing that happens to heart...
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWhat if we didn't receive the follow up email? Is everyone suppose to get that?
ReplyDeleteCheers anonymous #29321!
ReplyDeleteIn the spirit of comprehension, try the notion of leaving a user name behind so people can respond in proper.
Dear first "anonymous" beneath Emily:
ReplyDeleteYeah, I hope you don't receive an offer because your application is probably full of pompous, condescending bullcrap.
Sorry, Transfermer, don't mean to troll the blog, but certain people need to learn to be respectful of other people and their feelings.
I'm definitely slipping up a little towards my last year at my CC... and now I'm horribly afraid that my admissions will get revoked (assuming that I get in, that is)... Do you want us to contact you in that case? I feel like that'll just raise flags that'll make certain that I do not get in... But I also feel like it's necessary to update you guys on what's going on rather than hope to fly under the radar... Please help!
ReplyDeleteONLY ONE MORE WEEK EVERYONE!
This is all quite confusing, and I know that this isn't a big deal, but I received the first accidental email, but I did not receive the follow-up. I'm assuming that doesn't mean anything in particular, but maybe others are confused as well about why they did not receive the clarification.
ReplyDeleteI hate to add more worry and hassle but could you clarify how the Financial Aid process works with our applications?
ReplyDeleteI keep on hearing about new FIN AID To-Dos showing up on other applicant's SIS accounts, and start wondering if it's a bad sign that none have done so on mine. Do they only prepare packages for accepted students? Thanks!
-Fin A.
Regarding messages #1 and #2. These came from different senders at the University. The second email came directly from our office and these emails tend to get blocked(by spamtraps and firewalls) more than where the first email came from - our UVA public relations department. Thanks for bringing up this issue here.
ReplyDeleteNot Much Longer Peeps!!
ReplyDeleteTransfermer,
ReplyDeleteCan you please answer the questions regarding Financial Aid appearing on To-Do lists.
Would it only appear if you stated you intended to apply for aid on the common app?
Thanks so much! Can't wait to see the decisions soon!!!!
I'm trying to wait patiently for the decision, but it is scary waiting until May 1st when that's the deadline for replying to my other schools :( Please hurry!!! (I really do know that everyone is working hard and doing their best to have the decisions ready. It's just frustrating not knowing what's going on!) Thanks for all you do for this blog Transfermer! And ¡buena suerte a todos!
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling a decision tomorrow! Am I right, Transfermer? Please!!!
ReplyDelete(I know you're probably tired of all these comments but isn't it great so many people want to be at your school so badly?)
:)
Transfermer,
ReplyDeleteI know you and the admissions staff are super busy but can we get a hint if the decisions are going to be revealed earlier this year? I am transferring with the guaranteed admissions but still freaking out over little things :s so please release us from the agony!!
btw thank u for the blog!!
Speaking on behalf of us mellow persons waiting for a decision I just want to say thanks for your hard work UVA Admissions and you can release decisions whenever you get around to it.
ReplyDeleteAnd the association recommends all other applicants get away from the computer at all costs and enjoy the ignorance of not knowing while you still can.
Is there a specific time that the decisions will be released on the 1st or is that yet to be determined?
ReplyDelete5 pm
ReplyDeleteI'm soooo excited for this weekend :))
ReplyDeleteIt's almost finals week so I hope you guys aren't stressing to much over the wait and keeping your priorities straight! However...for a little bit of modivation on your studies...only 4 days left :D!!!
Transfermer,
ReplyDeletedo you think that the decisions will be released on Friday the 29th at 5 pm rather than Sunday May 1st?
If I don't have Fin Aid on my to do list does that mean I am not accepted?
ReplyDeleteAhhhh the decision is so close!! I can't wait! I'm sooooo excited! :) Although if I'm rejected, seeing my sister and brother graduate on the lawn isn't going to be nearly as much fun :p
ReplyDeleteReady to find out! Hopefully before May 1st.
ReplyDeletenot much longer peeps!
ReplyDeleteThe anticipation is killing me! Good luck to everyone! I know that you all are as excited (and ridiculously nervous) about your decision as i am. With finals here, it is super hard to stay focused. So hang in there! :)
ReplyDeleteI am too confused about financial aid on the the to-do list. Why would it appear on some applicants pages and not others?
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure the financial aid department works independently of the admissions office. I had financial aid to-do show up for me about 2 weeks after the admissions deadline. I find it hard to believe they had went through all the applications at that point. So for everybody freaking out about financial aid to-do lists and what it means for admissions, I think you can stop trying to make a connection. There is only a maximum of 4 days till the decisions are released so relax, you will know soon enough.
ReplyDeleteMy finals are next week. I really want time to go slowly because there is so much I have to do, and study for; at the same time, May 1st cannot here fast enough. The anxiety is eating at me. I feel like an electron, I just can't keep still.
ReplyDeleteI just needed to say this to people I thought would understand.
Good luck to all of you... but more to me. :)
if we do get accepted into UVA what date do we have to get back to you by with our decision?
ReplyDeleteI really just wanted to make this a nice round even 50 comments. Thanks for everything, Transfermer! :)
ReplyDeleteOnly a few days left :)
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone got through the storms ok last night and that we get some good news soon.

ReplyDeleteWondering when we will get an update... it's been 7 days since the last post... the three posts before then were only a day apart from each other... hopefully some OT has been put in to get us responses by tomorrow! ;) My counselor said we will likely get a response tomorrow instead of Sunday... then again that was last week...
ReplyDeleteThere probably isn't a new post because there isn't anything new to report. I am guessing they are still working on the process and decisions will be released by May 1st. I doubt they have everything done and are just torturing us. If I had to bet money I would say tomorrow will be the day only because the 1st is on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThis is my third time applying to UVA and I'm not giving up yet ;) The wait over the past two months has been torture but I'm feeling like tomorrow is the day! Good luck everyone! :)
ReplyDeleteThe wait just sunk in. I've been working 16 hour days at the Rolex Horse Championships and tomorrow is going to be the worst. The stress will probably keep me up all night, but on the bright side, at least I will be awake to watch the royal wedding. :)
