Important Notes

Pleeeease don’t be anonymous. It makes things very confusing on here. After you make your comment and BEFORE you click on that big orange button, click on “Name/URL” and make up and alias for yourself. It is really hard to answer questions when everyone’s name is anonymous.

If you are on the wait list or admitted, be sure to send your final spring transcript when it becomes available. We will not accept unofficial transcripts. They must be official and sealed.

If you applied for financial aid, and you have not received an aid award, make sure to check your to-do list. You might be missing an important document that is holding up your decision.

  1. Is it reccomended/allowed that we come to Peabody Hall to personally explain the reason for a lower grade upon recieving our Final Grades?

  2. CavMan86,
No, it is not necessary to come in. If we find it necessary, we'll call you to come in for an appointment in June. I should add that calling people in is very rare.

  3. Ok, thanks Transfermer, I appreciate it. I think Im just really stressed out and need to step away for awhile and relax. My only bad grade is the D in Calculus while all my other grades are good. I am a Gov't. major so I dont even need it for my major, I think I just need to chill and accept the awesome fact that I indeed am going to be a Wahoo next year =D

  4. Transfermer,

I was wondering if you could possibly tell me more about the UVA summer session. I am very interested in taking some summer courses at UVA. How exactly does that work? Do visiting students receive on-grounds housing? How long do the sessions usually last? Do you have to have a certain GPA to be admitted to summer session? I couldn't find any info on that.

    Thank you!

  5. UVa fan,
I'm a transfer student, too, and I'm taking asummer class. There is on grounds housing (Lewis and Hoxton). There are three sessions, and I'm taking Contemporary Short Stories in the second session, which is June 14-July 10. You enroll as a "visiting student" for summer.

  6. Cavalier girl,

Thanks! But just reassure myself, have you been admitted to UVA yet? I haven't but I would love to do the summer session. Do you have to do all 3 sessions? or can you start at the 2nd session? (june 14-july 10)???

    Thanks! I really appreciate it.

  7. About the final transcript... I am going to be a sophomore at UVA this fall when I transfer and for the spring semester, I might have 1 C and a B- but my overall GPA is still above average transfer GPA each year. I called the office and the person seemed unsure but mentioned I might get a call to "discuss" over my final grades, mainly if I get a C. Should I be worried?

  8. should we be worried if our financial aid decision isn't up yet? i'm concerned that my aid award might not be up before saturday.

  9. Transfermer,

I am a transfer applicant applying from the Univ. of Costa Rica and was waitlisted. Regarding the recommendation to send spring grades, I wanted to mention that this gets complicated for me, as my current semester ends until July (it started in March) and there are no official records of mid semester grades. I wanted to know if sending additional information of what I've been doing most recently, or essays on past UVA topics would be helpful.

    Thanks.

  10. Transfermer,

I completed my financial aid for 2010-2011, however, I have not heard anything back from school. Is this normal? Thank you.

  11. Transfermer,

Also there are no to-do list on my SIS regarding of my 2010-2011 financial aid.

  12. UVa Fan,
I applied to summer school back in March and got accepted, long before I was accepted as a transfer student. I suggest you contact Rachel Miller in the summer school office. She walked me through every step. She is super nice and helpful. No, you don't have to go to all three sessions. You can just pick one. At the summer website, www.virginia.edu/summer, there is a list of all courses and in which session they're offered. Good luck!

  15. Transfermer,

I have not yet recieved my final grades, however I know that I recieved a D in Applied Calculus, however this class was not needed for my Major Requirement. All my other grades throughout my college career are A's and B's and one C (In Statistics). My overall GPA will be around the 3.1 range, and I also will be graduating with honors in Phi Theta Kappa. Will this one class mistake be sufficient enough to rescind my offer of admission? I sure hope not!!! I'm so nervous!! Please help!

  16. You got in with a 3.1 GPA? I have a 3.9 and I got wait listed :(. Damn it all!

  17. J, how many credits have you completed? And what year would you be in when you transferred? 2nd year or 3rd year? Just wondering

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah I had 63 credits with a 4.0 and got waitlisted. Oh well all I can do is...wait

  19. In that case you should have came in under the Guaranteed Admission Agreement then, right?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I didn't apply under the agreement. But still I had all the gen eds done and a LOT of extracurriculars. I don't feel tooo down cause I got into a great school but part of me is still hoping for UVa.

  21. Is a MTH 151 or 152 accepted for the Guaranteed Admission into the College of arts and sciences? Would that qualify as Finite Math? or does it have to be Statistics, Calculus, or higher? Basically, what Math classes or allowed for the guaranteed admissions?

  23. I apologize for the double post, but I just realized that I posted my question in response to LAST week's blog entry, not this one!

    Hi transfermer,

Thanks for this blog- its been a great resource throughout the application process!

If we take courses at our home college over the summer before transferring to UVA in the fall, can we receive credit for those courses? I think it might be a good idea for me to get the language requirement out of the way.

    Thanks!

  24. Hi L'il J -

I'm not Transfermer, but my transfer counselor (a Uva alum) let me know that MTH 152 transfers as a math. Google the Uva transfer credit analyzer - could be helpful:)

  26. Hi Transfermer,

I'm not sure if you still check this blog regularly (you're probably still extremely busy handling waitlist applicants) but I wanted to know if we need to spend in our AP scores or if those are usually included on the college transcript. Thanks.
