Latest news on waitlist notification

Hello All,

We know it has been a very, very long wait. We appreciate your patience. The great majority of you will recieve wait list decisions next week. Unfortunately, it is my understanding that this will not appear online. However, you will be notified by mail in the next few days.

Best of luck!

  2. yay! we will soon know!

  3. If our status online has changed should we ignore it? It cites "the entering class."

  4. My status changed on my application status and now its

Application Status: Not offered from waitlist

    Note:
After considering the number of spaces available in the entering class, we regret to inform you that we will not be able to offer you admission this year. Our class is over-subscribed, and we believe it would be unfair to keep your name on the wait list any longer. We sincerely appreciate your interest in the University of Virginia and know that you would have made a fine addition to the student body. We offer our sincere and best wishes for your happiness and success.

But you said we wouldn't be notified online..I'm assuming I was though

  5. Those sound like they're meant to rising first years, not transfers. The transfer class wasn't "over-subscribed" from what they've told everyone. The first year class was for the most part.

  6. I am on the same boat as the other anonymous. Does this mean that I was rejected off the waitlist?

  7. A friend of mine who was on the WL also got that same thing.

  8. Im the first anonymous who posted the updated message I saw on my status report. Did anyone get a different status than "Not offered from waitlist"?

  9. ya i was "not offered as well" it might just be up for everyone

  10. I think that there is a decent chance that our online statuses have been included in a broad first-year waitlist update. I went to bed last night almost certain that I had been rejected, but until somebody who was on the transfer waitlist says that they were given an online acceptance, I will continue to wait patiently for my letter. Would people mind chiming in with what their online status reports say? It would be especially helpful if somebody who already knows that they were accepted off of the waitlist (dana, audrey, ryan) shared their online status.

  11. I've been on the waitlist since early May.

  12. Then that pretty well seals it. Congrats to all those accepted.

  13. So we wait weeks before any info and its wrong anyways. Awesome.

  14. the post cleary says we will not be notified online, rather by mail...i bet it is just a general update..i doubt this big of mistake would be made

  15. this is such crap...i feel like i have been jerked around this whole process

  16. Anon, perhaps your definition of "clearly states" is a bit different than mine, but I believe the original post indicates that "it is my understanding" that status would not be provided online. I think this indicates that Transfermer was not absolutely sure on that point. I seriously doubt that UVA intends to deceive anyone. They are working through these decisions as best they can. They may not be perfect in the way they are going about it, but I would not take out your disappointment in not getting in on the Admissions staff, they truly are doing their best to help.

  17. previous anon clearly got in...

  18. Well I did not get in, which is a huge blow because I was able to get straight A's for the Fall and the Spring all while volunteering at a hospital and teaching an entire Freshman class intro chemistry, and I can say that I have been very pleased with the way that admissions has treated me. It's amazing that they are willing to make the process so transparent and keep us updated at all. And I am very confused by those who are bitter about being put on the waitlist as opposed to being rejected right away. Judging by your attitude, I'd say that UVa probably made the correct decision.

  19. Mine said "Accepted" I believe when i went online...it now says "Tuition Deposit Recieved" So my guess is its probably on the money. Sorry:-( But to those who did get accepted, Can't wait to meet you guys at orientation!

  20. who was offered admission?

    ReplyDelete
  21. To all who are confused as to if the status page is incorrect, mines says this:

    Application Status: Tuition Deposit Received

    Note:
We have received and processed your tuition deposit. Thank you. A formal deposit confirmation will be mailed to you shortly. Welcome to U.Va.!

P.S. I was on the waiting list and was accepted on June 7, 2008, so I guess this means that they have deposited my tuition deposit. This is very similar to what Dana has. Good luck to all, where ever you end up going to college this Fall 2008.

  22. Dear Transfermer,

I would like to sincerely thank you and the admissions staff for all of your work over the last few months, as I am sure reviewing over two thousand applicants for a handful of opportunities is quite arduous. I was also very pleased about the informative UVa Transfermer Blog and hope that this medium will continue to provide the valuable facts.

I was wondering if there is any possibility that those that were not offered transfer enrollment for the fall that would like to reapply would be able to get any feedback on what is missing or simply not good enough for admission on his/her application whether by individual conferences or a simple group workshop despite limited staffing in the Transfer Admissions office. I know that most entering first year students simply applied to three or four other schools. Applying to another school is often difficult for transfer students, because it means changing employers and residences, which is not easily done. I am certain that other young men and women from various backgrounds plan to reapply and any feedback would be greatly appreciated by all.

Thank you again for all the efforts to help.

    Respectfully,

    Ben

P.S.-Congratulations to those who were accepted please represent well for transfer students everywhere as the more you achieve the more they might allow in.

  23. You guys should wait for your mails to come in. Audrey and Dana had already received their acceptance letters from UVA early June, which as a result, their status information got updated since.

  24. im just going to call tomorrow and find out whats going on...

  25. I was mistaken. The system will allow transfers to see wait list decisions online. And yes, the message sounds like it applies to first year students. However, we are aware that you are transfer applicants and that is the final decision.

I apologize for the confusion, but like I said, it was my understanding that you wouldn't be able to see your status online. This obviously, was not the case. And this is why, I think, we are still in the business of sending out physical letters. It should be more transparent.

Please feel free to email or call us if you have questions about chances for future admission.

Thanks for the kind words from many of you. This is a lengthy, stressful process for all of those involved. I've tried to be open with you on the blog. I can say that this allows for a lot more information to flow to you in a public sphere. Last year, there was nothing like this. We also get to hear what you think and that's important to us. Thanks again for your patience.

  26. Transfermer,

Can you tell us the percent or any numbers now of who was accepted all together or off the wait list?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Transfermer,

So are you saying that our status page IS the decision that is made on our acceptance? Therefore, if the status is "not offered from waitlist", then we are officially rejected, and if it says "offered from waitlist", then we are offered a slot into the school??

    ReplyDelete
  28. From what i was told the decisions online are final. they either said not accepted or accepted or still say waitlist. if it still says waitlist you were put on an extended waiting list. is this correct transfermer?

    ReplyDelete
  29. That IS the final decision from UVA. I have received my letter yesterday, it stated such. Everyone should be receiving the final decision in the mail this week.

  30. The decision you see on your status pages is correct.
