I kinda feel bad for some of the people rejected seeing I had like a 3.5 my first semester and mediocre high school grades :\ I'm not complaining though.
what are some of your credentials, such as GPA, SAT, in/outstate, school transferring from, and what school at UVA you are into.
I applied to Comm school and there's no update on my status, and for some of you who already have peace of mind, I'd appreciate if you could enlighten me so I can gauge my own chances. I only applied to UVA, so this whole thing is make or break for me... if I don't get in I'm giving up my materialistic dreams and moving to Africa or something.
Hi I also applied to Commerce and I am on waitlist. My GPA 4.0, challenging classes, extra curriculum, honors plus internships. But I am out-of-state student....
Very very very excited. Congrats to everyone and of course thank you to Transfermer! Can't wait to leave Miami and see everyone in Charlottesville in the fall!
They will accept more than 14 students to Comm school, last year's acceptance rate was 16%, or 37 of 230.
This year transfermer said about 300 students applied, so I would assume around 40-60 are offered admission if they adjust for the larger applicant pool. Still very competitive though.
I wouldn't be surprised if the acceptance rate is much less than 16% this year, as the good reviews in business week (#2 UG business) certainly inspired a lot of applications and positively influenced the perceptions of many people regarding McIntire.
This is probably one of the most competitive applicant pools ever at Comm School.
I GOT IN!!! I'm so excited!!! I had already gotten accepted to JMU but UVA was my first choice, so we all know where I'll be sending my deposit to hehe ;-) Congrats to everyone else who got accepted. I feel bad for those who didn't =(
Congrats to all of those who got accepted! I'm happy for you and know you'll love it, as for me...i was wait-listed... so i'm crossing my fingers some of you already picked your school.
I wouldn't feel bad for those who didn't get into UVA. I mean, It's life, and it happens. It's not like the decisions were meant to intentionally hurt feelings. Hopefully they were all smart enough to apply to other schools as well.
TO the person who says they had a 3.5 with mediocre high school grades, don't feel bad, you probably wrote an amazing essay and had some qualities others with higher GPAs didn't have. Just goes to show that grades aren't EVERYTHING.
To say IM axcited about being accepted is an understatement. I CANNOT believe all my hard work has paid off! I dropped out of highschool not too long and just started cranking out good grades at my local community college. Thomas Jefferson said, "It seems the harder I work, the more luck I recieve." My dreams are coming true - cant wait to see you guys this fall!!!!! woohoo im a wahoo!!!!
If anyone is looking for housing let me know I have a two bedroom apartment at the newest, nicest place for off grounds housing. Its totally furnished! 630 a month, includes cable, water, and internet. cfc7y@virginia.edu e-mail if interested!
I GOT IN!!!!!! O MY GOODNESS!!! THANK YOU EVERYONE IN ENCOURAGING WORDS!!! and Transfermer, i cant thank you enough for all of your hard work and informations you provided us with! thank you!
o btw... have anybody noticed that they are inviting us to one of the admitted students day in April? given that they were supposed to notify us by the 30th its kinda silly... stupid gripe from one happy camper =D
Perhaps a 4.0 is perceived as not challenging yourself?
Also, a lot of schools oppose the superficiality of participating in too many clubs, because its unlikely there is much depth to that participation if it is spread so thin.
It might be perceived that you participation in those clubs was for the wrong reasons, ie prepping yourself for UVA instead of doing them because you actually cared.
I'm not gonna lie, this is somewhat encouraging to me.
From what I've seen on here, people who were notified from Comm school were either wait-listed or rejected. I haven't seen anyone confirm getting into McIntire yet.
A friend of mine thinks they've made all the easy decisions and that those who haven't received confirmation are competitive, given that it seems to take longer to make the final decision. I'm taking this as a good sign.
Two years ago, I would have never expected to be preparing to head off to study Business at the Commerce School. But today, I am packing my bags. Good luck to everybody else. God bless.
Gottaloveuva, I was under the impression that these decisions were not revealed online. Were you offered admission for spring and not attend UVA?
Summer school is completely separate from us. You do not have to apply to take classes during these sessions. If you take them, they will not necessarily make an impact on an admissions decision in the future. www.virginia.edu/summer
The weather is obviously cooler than Miami, but it's not that bad. I think it snowed a total of four times this winter-- the most being 3-5 inches. You might be suprised that we have intense summers up here. There are plenty of days filled with high humidity temps in the upper 80s. All in all, it's manageable for most people.
clemsontouva, I hope you're right. I applied to Commerce and I have not been notified as of yet. It made me worry at first, but your observation is logical. I'm hoping I still have a good chance.
Now I can relax a little and make preparations to move. Quick question -- if we applied under the guaranteed admission program from a VCCS school, how do we know if we were accepted under those conditions as opposed to being admitted as a standard transfer? There are certain stipulations outlined in the transfer agreement that I want to make sure I adhere to.
If you applied to the Comm School and also indicated you wanted to be considered for the College of Arts and Science as your second choice if not accepted to the Comm School and you were put on the Wait List, how do you know which school you were Wait Listed for?
I got in for Fall 2008! I still gotta make the decision to go though. Is May 12 the LAST day we can send in our deposit, or can we go for an extension?
I'm excited, although I'm not too sure I can attend. University of Richmond offered me a full-scholarship, and as a single-mother, the financial aid package is very important factor in considering coming to UVA. I guess we'll see once I see their offer. (BTW, I was a VCCS student, after quite a few years off from Highschool. I had a 4.0 with 55 credits at the community college, and a 3.8 in high school)
If we applied to arts and sciences and said that we had in interest in one of the schools, such as Curry, when would we find out if we got into that school? I was accepted into arts and sciences but was wondering when I would hear from Curry?
Hmm. I know there's been a lot of debate about who gets in (how decisions are made, etc.). I think that a lot (not all) students who were accepted may have been non-traditional - people with families or who've taken time off to work and explore, etc. I find it interesting.... and I'll bet some of our transferring students are older... Just a thought.
So I've been accepted and now I have a question about housing. My friend who is a current student at UVa has been waiting for my student ID (which I'll prob. get in a couple of weeks I've been told??) before she contacts housing and secures a spot for us. My question is: will it be too late to get on-campus housing? We really don't want to live off grounds =(
Wow. I'm very happy right now. And the thing is just hours ago I decided that it wouldn't be bad to stay at Clemson, that I could be successful and I would be happy either way. But working hard does get you places and I am very excited to be headed to McIntire next year. See you on campus.
For those accepted to COMM school, could you put your stats like gpa and school you are transferring from to help people who are applying to transfer for next year. Especially if you re out of state and got in. Thanks
Hi, I got into the comm school. I'm an international student, so that might be considered out of state? Some stats from me: * 3.9 GPA, around 60 credits * Top 1% high school, Premier's award * Two internships: Alcatel-Lucent and Merrill Lynch * Business involvements in USA and Australia
Ok, hope that helps potential transfer students next year.
Thank goodness! I'll be sending my deposit as soon as possible.
ReplyDeletecan we pay the deposit online or do we have to wait for the packet to show up at home?
ReplyDeleteI guess I have to wait...sigh
ReplyDeleteI am a Spring 2008 rollover...please tell me the admission decision online is correct!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks you so much transfermer and Dean J! I have the same question as above because I want to send in my deposit ASAP!
ReplyDeleteApplication Status: Offered Admission
ReplyDeleteIs the financial aid letter / packet being sent any earlier! What a surprise to see this so early!
I kinda feel bad for some of the people rejected seeing I had like a 3.5 my first semester and mediocre high school grades :\
ReplyDeleteI'm not complaining though.
Anon above,
ReplyDeleteIt might be that these people have taken easier classes with less credits and still achieve a 4.0GPA. How many credits did you take?
OH my gosh!! I am so excited-- See ya in the fall! Somebody needs to start a facebook group.. :)
ReplyDeleteJust curious, now that y'all are accepted...
ReplyDeletewhat are some of your credentials, such as GPA, SAT, in/outstate, school transferring from, and what school at UVA you are into.

Offered Admission to the A school! I am unbelievably happy! Thank you Transfermer for keeping this blog updated and helping us along the way.
ReplyDeleteWhen can I send my deposit?
What do we do about housing now?
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI also applied to Commerce and I am on waitlist. My GPA 4.0, challenging classes, extra curriculum, honors plus internships. But I am out-of-state student....
I am very sad today
I may move to Africa as well :)
I'm out of state too, with a worse gpa, so im losing confidence... no internships either
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you wrote better essays,or went to better school...
I just wish that they would accept more then 14 students ....it's so competitive....
maybe this year they did........
Did anybody got accepted to Commerce School?
Very very very excited. Congrats to everyone and of course thank you to Transfermer! Can't wait to leave Miami and see everyone in Charlottesville in the fall!

ReplyDeletesomeone already made a facebook group: Fall 2008 UVa Transfer Students
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about applying to live in Hereford. Can I go ahead and do that now?
ReplyDeletehas anyone been offered admission to Commerce?
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all of those who got accepted! I'm happy for you and know you'll love it, as for me...i was wait-listed... so i'm crossing my fingers some of you already picked your school.

ReplyDelete"Anon above,

3.53 from virginia tech, 13 credits 1st semester.
I really am surprised.
I do not understand. I had a 4.0, hard classes (17 credits), clubs, freshman class pres. and instate.
ReplyDeletei was wait listed.
Perhaps a 4.0 is perceived as not challenging yourself?

Thanks so much for deciding to post decisions early! I'm so excited!!
ReplyDeleteCan any of you that were accepted give some feedback as to what school you were accepted into? Any Arts and Sciences acceptances?
ReplyDeleteAny Comm school acceptances ?
ReplyDeleteI need to know who got accepted to Comm school.

ReplyDeleteHey anon with a 3.0,
ReplyDeleteWhere did you go to school?
Hmm. I know there's been a lot of debate about who gets in (how decisions are made, etc.). I think it was the essays though and the way I improved over the semesters.
clemsontouva,
ReplyDeleteDid you happen to get your decision today? Congrats!

ReplyDeleteyeah....
ReplyDeleteNo!
Is it possible to get an extension for the deposit? I won't be hearing from a few other schools until May 15 at the earliest.
ReplyDeleteHi, I got into the comm school. I'm an international student, so that might be considered out of state? Some stats from me:
ReplyDelete* 3.9 GPA, around 60 credits
* Top 1% high school, Premier's award

Ok, hope that helps potential transfer students next year.
Avina
As far as on-campus housing, where is everyone hoping to live? and why?
ReplyDeleteAlso are there any photos of the interior of Gooch/Dillard? I can only find the floor plan.
