Finalizing your Spring Courses?

Many of you started classes last week, or you're getting into it this week. As you are putting the final touches on your course schedule for spring, keep an eye on the pre-requisite courses we've listed on our website.  Remember that if you're applying to the College of Arts and Sciences, the math, science and foreign language pre-requisites are extensive.  If you haven't taken any of these courses, we suggest you sign up and start taking off a bite off of them this spring.

To find these pre-requisites, go to this site and click on your school of interest:

Happy first week of classes!

  1. If I'm applying to transfer as a second year and I didn't take any foreign language courses during my first two semesters of school, am I automatically denied? My university doesn't require a language and I look the basic first year classes.

  2. No, not at all Megan. It's great that you've started working on it. Most universities from which we get transfers don't require four semesters of foreign language. This is a common concern. Getting started on it before you transfer puts you on the right track.

  3. I have all my required courses for the School of Arts and Sciences. This semester, however, I am taking 3 courses (12 credits) as opposed to the usual 4-5. Will taking fewer credits impact my admissions decision?

  4. Ben,
Traditionally, we expect you to take 4-5 courses because that's what you'll be doing here, but I can't say yes or no without looking at your entire file. We do sometimes see students who ratchet down because they've otherwise completed their requirements and extra classes would cost extra money.

  5. I am currently taking a Food Systems class in the Environmental and Urban Studies department, would that class count towards science requirement? If not, I may have to drop a class and pick up a math or science.

  6. SophiaRose,

It's difficult to make a judgement call without knowing what school you're coming from and what the syllabus is like. My hunch is that this would only give you elective credit and not math/science credit.

  8. Lena,
Please read the notes on the right side of the blog. No, you don't need to send the college report.
