Hi everyone! Sorry to have disappeared for so long. The spring transfer process coupled with early action
for high school applicants is keeping us very busy.
All transfer decisions will be posted online this evening at 5PM EST. Remember that you have to consult your SIS account to get your decision. You'll have information about this in your UVA confirmation email. We will post all decisions online, but we will only be mailing letters to admitted students. A student is either offered or not offered. There is no waitlist process for spring admission.
Do not call the office to ask for your
decision. We do not give out decisions over the phone. To get to your account, go here and click on the "SIS Login." If you don't remember your account information, seek out the help information on the left-hand side of that same page.
Good luck!
Good luck, everyone! As an out of state student, I don't look for an offer, but you never know, right?
ReplyDeleteAs an international student, I was rejected:(
ReplyDeleteOffered!! Good Luck to all!!
ReplyDeleteCould you explain the rollover process in further detail? Do I just send a letter to the usual address made out to Greg W. Roberts saying, "I would like to rollover my application please." ? I wrote an email to the undergrad admissions address asking, but was told "You must reapply using the 2012 Common App and U.Va. Supplement", clearly not the case stated by the rejection letter on UVA SIS! Please let me know. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for speaking up Lee. There is a new person answering our email and he might be confused. Email is fine. Let me write a post about it. BRB!
ReplyDeleteIs there anyone I could talk to about my decision and what I'm missing? I am approaching the 2nd semester of my sophomore year, so Fall 2012 will be the last time I am able to apply. I would prefer email, as English is not my first language and I write/read it much better than I speak it. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHow many third years vs. second years were admitted for the Spring 2012?
ReplyDelete@anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat as you. This spring was the second time I've applied as a transfer and I was rejected again. I'm very close to the 60 credit max and the only undergraduate school I want to graduate from is UVa. This fall is very likely the last time I'll be able to apply as well. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I thought maybe my grades aren't high enough but I've had a rising grade trend since my first semester of college. I even went to UVa over the summer to take a class to prove I can do A-level work in their classes. I've completed all the general requirements and I'm ready to start on my major ASAP. All I need is a damn offer, you know? Maybe my problem is that I'm not a Virginia resident...
Good luck to you. I get where you're coming from. I really hope you get offered next semester.
In fact, I dropped to part-time this semester just so I would stay below 60 credits so I can take another shot at UVa in the fall. I don't know what I'm going to do if I'm not offered. I can't afford to keep applying and keep getting rejected without staying in school because I have loans I would have to start paying off. I don't belong anywhere else...
ReplyDeleteTransfermer, would you happen to know if a student audits a class, does it "count" as earned credits? In other words, if I have 58 0r 60 credits, and I audit a class or two next semester, would it put me over the 60 credit hours and therefore make me inelligble for transfer?
Anon, you may email the general office email if you have questions about your decision. If they direct you to call and speak to the Dean of the Day, it’s probably for the best. Please also keep in mind that English speaking skills are quite necessary to succeed in classes at UVA.
ReplyDeleteAnon2,
We don’t keep those statistics, but I can tell you that most of the people applying were current sophomores.
Lex,
I’m sorry “your offer” didn’t work out for you this time. About 13% of applicants were admitted, so it’s been tough for a lot of students. EVERY year, we have mid-semester sophomores to do not get in and try again. You have to do legwork in order to earn audited course credit, so it’s possible that the class wouldn’t count against you. Without knowing your situation, it’s hard to comment. If you feel you need more clarity, I suggest you email or call the office.
Transfermer,
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean for my posts to come across as a personal attack. I have no desire to bash the Admission Committee at all. I know they made the decisions they thought were best. When I saw Anonymous' post, it reminded me of the question I wanted to ask about being able to audit a class without gaining credit. I know it's been tough for a lot of students. I asked on the blog instead of calling the office because I thought other people could benefit from it. I didn't mean it to turn into a tangent. I lost control of my emotions. My apologies. My intent was not to offend.
@ Lex:
ReplyDeleteI don't know how it works at a 4-year institution because I am transferring to UVA from a 2-year one (so that may be where I am mistaken if I'm wrong in what I'm about to write). I think you can exceed 60, but once you do those credits cannot be applied to graduating from UVA. As a 2-year institution transfer I had a little over 60 because I was there 1 more semester than I needed to be to finish up my associate's degree, and I had to be a full time student to receive a scholarship. So I basically took anatomy/physiology and biomedical ethics just for fun this last semester to make me a full time student, but they won't transfer over to UVA as they'd put me over my allowed 60 hours of transfer credit. The grades I get in those classes will show up when I send my final transcript of course, so I was just as serious in them as any other class :)!
I myself know nothing about auditing classes so I can't make a comment on that.
The following comes from a transfer letter I got in my e-mail inbox earlier, but as far as I know this is what is written around the website too.
"Please note that the minimum total credits for graduation is 120, of which at least 60 must be earned at U.Va. If you have been awarded more than 60 non-U.Va. credits, you will still have to complete a minimum of 60 credits at U.Va. Students with fewer than 60 credits will have to complete proportionally more credits at U.Va. "
I'm no expert of course, but it may be worth inquiring about if you're worried about exceeding the credit limit. Sorry if my comment is kind of confusing, I guess my situation is a little different than most for several reasons. Best of luck to you, I really hope you get in this fall!
Hi anon,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your information. I've been meaning to call the office, but I've been so busy (finals week!) that I haven't had time. What you said makes sense - it doesn't seem logical that a school would put a cap on number of credit hours if they don't transfer. But then again, every place has its own rules. I changed my major after my first year and I've had a lot of personal and situational issues that have affected my academic performance, which in turn caused me to take more classes that I don't really need in order to fix the abominable GPA. I kind of feel like the odd one out because my situation seems so...atypical. I know it's ridiculous, but I'm terrified of accidentally disqualifying myself from transferring because I didn't understand exactly what the rules are.
Anyway, I really appreciate that you took the time to write all of that. I've been on tenterhooks about what to do about next semester. If the 60 credit thing only applies to TRANSFERABLE credits, I'll be able to take whatever I want next semester. According to the transfer credit evaluator, I only have about 36 transferable credits. If the 60 credit limit applies to TOTAL earned credits, I was hoping to audit classes so I could stay enrolled but not exceed the limit. I guess I'm quite confused because I've been hearing and reading many different things. I was pretty sure only 60 credits could transfer (from what I understood of what is on the website), similar to what you said, but when I called the office a few months ago, I was told I would not be able to transfer if I exceeded 60 TOTAL EARNED CREDITS, regardless of whether they're transferable or not. :S
Your comment is quite helpful, even if you don't think it is. Sometimes I feel like I'm just floundering in all the information, especially when I'm given conflicting answers to the same questions. It's beneficial to read about other people's experiences and/or knowledge. Thanks again!
Lex,
ReplyDeleteI would encourage you to call the office if you haven't already done so. Unfortunately, the College of Arts and Sciences does not have the resources to take in rising seniors from other four-year universities. They would expect you to go ahead and finish where you are. The stipulations placed on ineligible students are more about your semesters in a four-year college rather than the credits you've earned or credits granted through testing/placement/etc. I know it's a little confusing. It's hard to explain over the blog and thus a phone call might work best. Good luck with finals! Finish strong everyone!
For Fall 2012 Transfer,do International Students have to take foreign language class (Spanish,German, etc)? I have already taken the TOEFL/IELTS test.
