You may use this entry as a place to post comments or questions about being in this position.
If you are still interested in us, please make sure you click the button(on your self-service page) that indicates that you want to "remain on the wait list." If you don't do this, you will not be reviewed again in the future.
We will also need your spring 2010 grades in order to make these decisions. After final exams are completed and your grades are finalized, please make sure you mail us your official transcript. Our address is University of Virginia, Office of Admission, P.O. Box 400160, Charlottesville, VA 22904.
After the deposit deadline of May 15, we'll begin to look to see how many students we can take off of the wait list. This can be a long process, but it really depends on the year. We hope to make our decisions by mid-June and if this date changes, I will let you know.
I got accepted...Yaay..I'm soo excited..Thank God
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm on waiting list for the school of Commerce. I'm not too disappointed. I remember I put the request in the application that if I could not get to that school, I hope UVA would consider my second choice. I just wonder whether if UVA considered my second choice because I could not see the result online.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading my application since I'm on waiting list.
Wow I would have rather been denied than been waitlisted....
ReplyDeleteWhere is the button to accept your spot on the waitlist?
ReplyDeleteHello, I'm waitlisted for the SON. I'm not too upset, just even more anxious....I hope to be moved from this particular list in the near future :)
ReplyDeleteHi, I was waitlisted. I am staying optimistic knowing that about 33% of students that apply to transfer don't accept the offer. I believe that most of the reason for this is that I still have to take 11 credits over summer to complete my Associate's degree. However, I have a question..
ReplyDeleteSince I will be completing my AS over summer, I heard that some school allow a 1 semester probation period where I may be able to take classes in the fall to prove myself and I may continue pending on my final transcript being sent in during the fall semester. My transfer advisor (who graduated from UVA) said that this isn't an uncommon practice.
Any chance?
I got wait listed too. Upside is that if we're lucky we can still get in, downside is the anxiousness continues :(. Kind of wish we had the numbers as far as how many were accepted & wait-listed, but I guess we can't have everything.
ReplyDeleteTime to move on. Who knows, maybe someday we'll be pleasently surprised. :)
I just been waitlisted too. (Sigh). I really wanted this, I think I applied too late (January 31) for my gpa to be so average (3.5). I wonder what the profile looks like for waitlisted students-how many students are waitlisted? what are their g.p.a.'s or majors?
ReplyDeleteif you all would tell me yours i wonder if it would be a trend in the waitlisted profile
heres mine:
Old Dominion University
gpa-3.5
major-philosophy/pre-law
app sub. date-jan. 31st
Jackie-what was your major and gpa? just wondering, you dont have to answer if its too personal
ReplyDeleteI was waitlisted for arts and sciences, and to be honest, I think this was a little unfair..
ReplyDeleteStats:
High School: GPA- 4.55
6 AP Classes (AP Chem, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC, APUSH, AP Government, AP English Lit.)
Tons of EC's- really involved in chorus/drama, lots of leadership in both, in four honor societies and Beta Club, tutor at Writing Center, tons of community service along with an Unpaid Summer Internship
College: GPA- 3.889
Music Major at Virginia Commonwealth University, took 18 credits first semester and 19 second semester (overall, four gen eds completed not including high school APs- Eng 215, Anth 103, UNIV 112(Another required English course), and Bio 101)
Studied in Rome, Italy last summer as a student at an opera intensive
Great Essays, Two solid recommendations
I'm extremely confused..
Wow Billy:
ReplyDeleteWhen did you apply?
Maybe you applied late...?
@ admissions office,
ReplyDeleteCan you tell us the approx. percent that accepts the wait list spot and approx percent that was taken off last year? if you have that data that is
I was waitlisted as well. Where do I check to stay on the waitlist? thank you
ReplyDeleteI could not find the waiting list bottom, would someone tell me how I can find it? Thank you
ReplyDeleteBilly,
ReplyDeleteHow is it unfair that you did not get accepted?
Does UVa have some special grudge against you? Did they see your name and automatically put your application aside as "waitlisted"?
If you did not get accepted, then there is a reason.
Either your courses are not strong enough or you have too few credits.
Saying the decision was unfair, you are taking away from those who did get accepted. Unless you know the transcript of each person who did get accepted, then it is childish to say it is unfair that you got waitlisted.
Sorry for coming off as aggressive. I understand you are disappointed, but it just irritates me when people make baseless comments.
Anyways, you still have a chance to get accepted off of the waitlist so don't give i hope and i wish you the best.
I just got waitlisted...i dont see the "stay on the waitlist" button either...so we will have to wait until after may 15th to know anything? i got into w&m, and they have to know by may 15...ahh so confused on what to do:)
ReplyDelete@UVaTransfer,
ReplyDeleteMy comment was not meant to be in comparison to the other applicants; I was honestly more CONFUSED as to why the decision was made. I know that everyone accepted is extremely qualified, and I'm not denying that. That was not what I was trying to imply by using the word "unfair." And yes, I obviously am disappointed, which did influence the way the post must have come off.
Let's try to avoid arguing on this blog. We should all be supportive of each other, right?
I'm with Crystal... this is torturous. Unlike some UVa students, I have to work, and need to know whether to keep my current job, get another job, move apartments, keep apartments, etc. etc.
ReplyDeleteI need to know what state I'll be living in next year. You think they could tell us sooner than June. I mean, they might as well let us know via. christmas card.
Are arts supplements accepted along with spring grades to be considered on the waitlist?
ReplyDeleteBilly,
ReplyDeleteI apologize. I misunderstood your comment and you are right, there is no point in arguing.
Your transcript does seem very impressive and you are in my opinion well-qualified to attend. I truly wish you the best and i hope you make it off the waitlist.
Hey guys--
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to give you all some words of encouragement. Being in limbo right now can really take a toll on a person’s spirit, but stay strong and don’t give up hope.
At this time last year I was in your shoes; I had been placed on the waitlist and I found myself frustrated, confused and slightly optimistic all over again. (I had been waitlisted the first time I had applied here too.) Thankfully, I received an offer of admission in June and things have never been the same. UVA is everything I expected and more and I am so thankful that I decided to stay on the waitlist and stick it out.
I wish all of you the best of luck during this anxiety-ridden process.
Hi, I got on the wait list for CAS.
ReplyDeleteHere I have a question: we need to submit our spring grade, but I am in a quarter system University, my spring quarter grade will not available until the middle of June, will this affect my chance to get off the wait list?
What should I do, do you think sending a midterm grade report will be help?
Thanks!
Alex
Do you know how many students are on the transfer waitlist?
ReplyDeleteIs there any way of letting students know if they are accepted or not before may 15th? This is the date when other schools also want an answer...
ReplyDeleteHey Transfermer, I had a quick question regarding the waitlist. According to the paper notification, "The last few years between 50-100 have been accepted from the waitlist." Does this mean 50-100 were admitted over the course of this time, or per year?
ReplyDeleteI apologize if it sounds like an idiotic question, the language is a little ambiguous so I wanted to make sure. Thanks!
To anon above: The 50-100 range seems to be the total per year, according to previous blog entries. Keep in mind that applies to all the schools: Arts and Sciences, Commerce, etc.
ReplyDeleteI was waitlisted, too. I try to keep everything in prospective. UVA is an amazing school, however, it's not Harvard, Yale, or Princeton! I got into W&M, UNC-Chapel Hill, Georgetown, and Wake, so I must have done something right! I was back-and-forth about staying on waitlist, but I made a choice and decided on Wake! Good luck to all of those who are hanging in there! May God Bless you and may UVA realize that you're all incredible!
ReplyDeleteAnon,
ReplyDeletewhen did you get into GTown? I got waitlisted by UVA and I'm still waiting to hear back from them.
I am an NVCC student with a 3.9 gpa and will have completed all requirements for the guaranteed admissions agreement at the end of this semester. Will I be granted the guaranteed admission or will I have to remain on the waitlist? What should my next step be?
ReplyDeleteJane,
ReplyDeleteYou would have been notified if you were considered for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Phil,
We do not have a contingency program like the one you mentioned. You are simply on the waitlist and we look forward to receiving your spring grades.
Amanda,
You didn’t apply too late. The deadline is March 1 and even then it was extended to March 15. That would not be the reason you were waitlisted. We don’t have the statistics for students and it’s often more complex than just the numbers.
Billy,
It’s not over yet, but you have the opportunity to call our office if you have questions about your decision.
Erwin,
As your letter says, we typically offer to 50-100 students from the waitlist.
Art Supplement Anon,
No, we are no longer taking arts supplements.
Alex, yes, you should submit mid-term grades.
Noelle,
We have to wait to see how many students accept our offer. Plus, we will also need your spring grades in order to make a decision.
Yes, I find it interesting that Georgetown doesn’t release all decisions at the same time.
Anon, May 5, 2010, 8:12 PM
You’ll remain on the waitlist until we receive your spring grades and review your file.
is there anyway thst we can find out why exactly we've been waitlisted? I know often times people call schools inquiring about the reasong behind their waitlist decision. just curious if there is anywhere we can call and if they would be willing to share this with us...
ReplyDeleteYes, Patriot107, you may call the admissions office if you have questions.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, patriot. I called one a couple days ago and they basically said all I should do was send my spring grades. Told me to apply for the spring, which unfortunately I can't do, as I'm going to be a junior. Pretty discouraging :(
ReplyDeleteCan we know how many people were placed on the waitlist?
ReplyDeleteThere are just over 400 people on the waitlist. That's all I can give you.
ReplyDeleteCalls can be very difficult. We try our best to be diplomatic and helpful. But it's true. The next step is to send in your spring grades.
Transfermer, My unique situation is as follows, I am attempting to transfer from vccs but not with an associate degree but as an applicant that has completed the prerequites curriculum for a particular program. I finished them in the fall term of 2009.
ReplyDeleteI was then instructed by my school that unless I was going to attempt a degree, which I was not, that I should then apply to the schools for my discipline that I was interested in...Subsequently I did not attend any classes during this spring semester, therefore I have no additional transcripts to send in. Will I be passed over because I have no additional information to turn in? I do not want to be looked over as UVA is still my top choice and I want to do everything possible to be chosen if there are spots available. I indicated on my application , which I turned late fall, that I would be taking classes this Spring. However unless I enrolled in an actual degree seeking program it would be of no account. So I did not. Please let me know if this would definitely keep me from possibly getting accepted off the waitlist.......

ReplyDeleteHello again,
ReplyDeleteI'm still confusing. Would you mind explaining it again? Does that mean I am not eligible for College of Arts and Science to consider?
I'm sorry for bothering too much but I'm really confusing. Thank you for answering my question.
I am an NVCC student with a 3.9 gpa and will have completed all requirements for the guaranteed admissions agreement at the end of this semester. Will I be granted the guaranteed admission or will I have to remain on the waitlist? What should my next step be?
ReplyDeleteI have filled out a transcript request at my school already. However, two of my grades hvae not been posted yet and I requested that the transcripts not be sent until all spring grades were turned in. Is there a certain deadline that our spring transcripts should have been turned in by? Will my application be discarded from consideration if they aren't recieved by a certain date? Just checking and double checking.
ReplyDeletenow that deposits are in, is there any way you can tell us how many positions there are for those on the waitlist?
ReplyDeleteYes, please, can we get the rough numbers for the number of people who are going to be accepted from the wait-list numbers? Or maybe the CAS wait-list? At least tell us if there are no spots, so the torture ends. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm still on the waitlist and I applied as a transfer student from NVCC under the GAA. How long does it usually take for the admissions office to look at my final transcript for the spring semester and check to make sure I've fulfilled everything for the agreement?
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to have a decision in my mailbox (or online) by June 1st... :/
Well I called Admissions today to see if they had any news on the status of wait listed students...they didn't, but referred me to this blog. It's good to to know I'm not alone. 400 students equals a lot of competition, but I'm going to keep hoping for the best. Good luck to you all!
ReplyDeleteAnyone knows when the decisions for those who are in the waitlist for transfer to the Engineering School will be out?????
ReplyDeleteDo you know when we will know when the decisions will be released?
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to apply next spring through the guaranteed admissions program. Whats the likelihood that a guaranteed admissions candidate gets wait listed/denied?
ReplyDelete@H:
ReplyDeleteI applied under the GAA, I got waitlisted, and then eventually got accepted. My experience suggests that if you've got everything satisfied on the GAA, you may be waitlisted but eventually - like the agreement says - you will be accepted.
Check to make sure you can be admitted in the spring semester through the GAA. Last I checked, it only worked for the Fall. Good luck!
H,
ReplyDeleteThe GAA does not apply for Spring; only for the Fall semester.
