Offered Transfer Admission?

I'd like to create a forum for every decision you might see later today. Please be respectful of your fellow applicants and our office. I will delete comments if necessary. Your status page is pretty basic. A more detailed letter will come to you in the mail in a few days.

Feel free to ask questions here if you've been offered admission.

Just below your letter are buttons to accept or decline your offer. If you accept, you'll then be instructed to pay the $250 deposit. Only clicking yes will not secure your spot in the class. You will need to pay as well. You can pay with most credit cards(we don't use VISA) or with an e-check. You'll have until May 15 to put down your deposit. If you have decided not to come to UVA, please click the button declining your offer. This will help us in our next phase. I will address questions about housing, orientation and credit evaluation next week.

  2. Transfermer/anyone else,

Oh no! I didn't pay immediately when I accepted and now when I click "pay my tuition deposit" the link just becomes disabled...it doesn't lead me to another page where I can pay. Suggestions?

I think re-login into your SIS - then it'll say "Pay My Deposit"..it should work - you'll be fine! You were accepted - they won't change their mind!

  31. Hey transfermer,
as far as credit evaluation does that begin only after the admissions deposit?

also will I need to send in the completed official final transcript with all of this spring semester's finalized grades to start the credit transfer process?

And for housing, is there a rule on dorming between 1st and 3rd year students if there is a mutual request for roommate?

  32. Sasha, you don't have an email posted..but I may be interested in off campus housing or whatever is recommended

  36. I just got in, and I am so thankful! My problem now is that I don't hear back from two schools until around June 1 and decisions for UVa are supposed to be made by May 15. What is the best thing for me to do?

  37. Call me "Concerned transfer Student",

Should I be concerned that the admissions office will rescind my offer? The letter states that acceptance is contingent on completion of final classes with distinguished grades and maintenance of academic performance.

For my first 3 semesters of college I had a 3.7 GPA with no lower than a B. This semester may range anywhere from 2.0 - 3.0 although I don't think that can reduce my cumulative GPA below 3.0

    ~thanks

  38. Congratulations. I remember this feeling quite well as one of the best of my life.

Apologies to anyone who wanted to email me, I assumed that some link to my email existed for all to see via my blogger account from which I posted.

    But my email is saa8ww@virginia.edu

e-mail me if you're interested in off grounds housing.

  39. I paid my tuition deposit and was given a receipt for it, but my account still says that my deposit is due. Should I be worried about this or does it take some time to change on the account? If that is not the case, what do I do to correct this?

    ReplyDelete
  40. "Concerned Transfer Student",

I'd be pretty concerned if you go anywhere under a 3.o, but if you study enough for exams I'm sure you'll be fine. Honestly, after reading that letter, I'm moderately worried about getting a 3.5ish this semester when my average GPA is around a 3.9.

  41. Hello Transfermer,
Im an international student and i got an offer into your institute.I have a few questions to ask

1.My current school informed me that i would require a new i20 from UVA if i were to travel back home this summer.I would like to noe how the process goes to obtain that I20 and if possible the speed at which it could be issued considering the fact that my ticket date back is in may.

2.Would i need to pay the school fees before the i20 is issued to me or would i need to pay the $250 deposit

    3. Considerng the transfer credit evaluation.Would i need to send another transcript from my current college containing my sping grades or could i just bring it during the beginning of the fall semester?

    Thanks so much!

  42. "Another Concerned Transfer Student"

Yea my gpa is going down a little but it should still be above a 3.3 on the low side hopefully its just my paranoia

  43. SUBLEASING for the Summer 2010.

Hi everyone! Congrats on making it! I'm also a transfer student, however I transferred in last year.

IF anyone is taking a summer session at UVA and is looking for a place, I am subleasing my apartment room.

My place is right on The Corner (if anyone has been to UVA, you'll know what I'm talking about). For those who don't, the Corner is basically where the life of UVA exists. It's a five minute walk from campus (I actually consider it a part of campus).

Here is my add on craigslist: http://charlottesville.craigslist.org/sub/1719638119.html

If anyone is interested, please email me at ms3gt@virginia.edu

Again, congtars! If you are accepting, then know that you're making the best decision of your life. At least I did :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. hopefullynotrevokedMay 2, 2010 at 9:40 PM

Does your acceptance get revoked if you get a final grade lower than C this semester? I'm not doing too well in my Calculus class, it's not even required for my major, I'm undeclared at my school right now, I took it as a gen-ed requirement course.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Transfermer,

How bad do we have to do to have an offer rescinded? I'm taking 6 classes, 1 of which is Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory. I have 5 A's in the other classes but will get one U.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Guys, Ive heard rescinding admissions offers is a very rare occurrence, extremely rare in fact. Almost like you have got to go out of your way to do bad. If you keep up good effort, you shouldn't have to worry.

    ReplyDelete
  50. As long as you're still trying your best in all of your classes, I wouldn't worry about your admission being revoked. If your grades do drop (say because of some difficult course work) and that does prompt UVA to send you a letter asking you to explain the drop, then just tell them the truth that your classes were pretty tough this semester. They'll understand, I promise.

    ReplyDelete
  51. You'd be surprised how easy a few things can make an A average into a B-C even without "trying".

Hope you're right though! It would make my life if this all works out

  55. Hey Transfermer,

Do you know if the listening section for foreign language SAT IIs is required for a language exemption? The listening section is only offered in November, and I was hoping to take the exam in June for a possible exemption.

    Thanks for everything.

  59. Colleen,
I'm sorry, but I deleted your facebook page. For security's sake, I'd like to keep all personal information off the blog.
This may seem counter-intuitive, but I'd recommend "meeting" folks at the facebook page for transfers. It's listed above.

  60. Transfermer- I tried to apply for housing, as the form was supposedly available May 1st, but apparently it's not activated yet. Do you know when we will be able to do so?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Were all financial aid offers supposed to be posted today? I'm not seeing mine, but I just turned in the last of my requested documents last week.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ^ Me too. I wrote an email to Fin Aid inquiring. If I find out anything I will post. Hopefully it'll be soon!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Thanks! please do post if you find anything out. I thought I was going to be finding about mine today as well, and was unable to access anything from the portal. Since it is a pretty important factor in my decision, I'd like to know ASAP!

  64. Transfermer,

Would there be a way to find out our potential credit evaluations? I know there is a transfer credit analyzer and I have visited that plenty of times, but I am hoping to take one or two courses at the community college in my area before I start in the fall, but I want to make sure those classes will be accepted as well (since I may already have more than 60 transferable credits). I also want to find out if there are any classes I might still need to take this summer before I begin at UVa in the fall. I have this concern, because I need 12 natural science and mathematics credits before I begin the program. I have taken a year of anatomy and physiology with labs, microbiology with lab, and statistics. I am hoping those sciences might count as natural science credits.
I called the office for my program (Kinesiology) and e-mails Dr. Saliba since I will be concentrating in her specific discipline, but I'm hoping to get a response soon since summer classes begin on the 17th and I probably won't hear back from UVa about my credit evaluation until after that.

I know the office is still very busy right now, but if you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  65. Can we set up our school e-mail after we have made the deposit? Anyone know how to do that if possible?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anonymous-

You sure can! Go to the orientation website and they will give you instructions there. http://www.virginia.edu/orientation/summer/
You have to read through a rule book and take a quiz sort of thing, and the email you will receive will only have a temporary password like our SIS accounts (same password, actually). It is my understanding that we won't get to make our real passwords until orientation. You need to create the email address to sign up for orientation, though. Hope that that make sense.

  69. Hi People -

I rec'd an email reply re: my inquiry into Fin Aid. They said they were reviewing it this week & to keep checking. Hopefully it will be a week or less -

  70. Alborz - Yes, we can take summer classes. In fact, I already signed up for ENGN 3600. Just go to www.virginia.edu/summer and it explains everything.

  71. pinknebula- thanks so much for asking them. hopefully they'll have offers up some time this week. i really want to pay my deposit but i can't do it in good conscience without knowing my financial aid offer!

    ReplyDelete
  72. jrw132, haha ditto! and yeah, thanks pinknebula for checking. my parents are getting on my case since UVA isn't the only school i applied to, so i want to get financial aid info to hopefully prove to them that it is the best choice! haha

  73. Speaking of Financial Aid, Just an FYI for you guys, U.Va was ranked #1 in The Princeton Review & USA Today's Rankings of "Best Value Colleges of 2009". Which means when you go to U.Va you get the most "bang for your buck". Because, in actuality at U.Va your getting an Ivy League caliber education while paying public tuition. Just some food for thought. Once again, Congratulations everyone, and if you guys are like me your def. ready for Finals Week to be over!!!

  74. I've decided to transfer, but when I tried to register for the 2nd year transfer orientation session, it was all full. Should I just register for the July 22 or July 23 date (the only ones left) or are there other options for transfer students?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Transfermer,

About how many admission offers get rescinded, on average, each year?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Kevin, a lot of people feel like you if you like where you are. It’s hard to make a change and feelings can change from winter to spring. Good luck with the decision process.

Tory, once you’ll deposit, you’ll receive information about housing from the Orientation office.

Jason, Biomed is one of the few majors that requires an additional application. At this juncture, you are only admitted to the Engineering School.

Mo, first-years do not live with upperclassmen.

    Wahoohopeful2012,
Confirmation takes about 72 hours, so you should have received information on getting into email by now.

    Maura,
You will have to deposit to keep your spot. I’m sorry you’re in this pickle, but unfortunately, this is the way it is.

    Anon, May 1, 7:02pm,
We take these on a case-by-case basis. We’d be happier if you let us know about this before we come across the transcript ourselves. Email us now if you like. Tell us what happened this semester and perhaps what you plan to do about it.

    Miriam,
If that is your real name, it looks like you figured it out.

    Dipillu65,
You need to deposit and fill out the proper I-20 request if you want us to give you an I-20.

Anon, May 2, 11:50 AM , Hopefullynotrevoked, and Jon Mack,
We take all of these on a case-by-case basis. I would recommend being proactive about this. You should wait until your final grades come out, but write to us at that time and explain the situation. Don’t wait for us to see the transcript of bad grades. You’ll probably be contacted either way.

    Chierakittyhawk,
Yes, housing is a part of your financial aid. You’ll meet with an advisor and register for classes at orientation.

    Shiloh,
I believe it depends on the department. You can contact your particular department of interest here: http://artsandsciences.virginia.edu/college/contact/foreign_lang_coordinators.html
    Anon with the housing question,
It might take a few days for you to be able to log in, but if it’s not up at all, you should call the housing office.

    UVAatlast,
Unfortunately, credit will not be posted until June and after we receive your spring grades. Dr. Saliba is your best contact. There are only a few of you who were accepted into the program so I’m sure she’d be able to help.

    Grace,
Orientation is not full. I’m not sure why it appears that way on your computer. Try again and if you still have trouble, call Orientation at 434-982-4555

    CavMan,
There is not an average. It all depends on your and your grades.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Transfermer,

After we Email and tell you why we recieved a D or what not, and when you recieve our final grades when will you tell us for sure whether or not we can still come to U.Va?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Cavman86,
I'm sorry, but I can't give you a date on this. It will be approximately 10-14 days after we receive your final transcript.

  80. I'm trying to transfer into Biomedical engineering after my first year of college. Is this possible? Or should I wait after my second year? I think its better trying to apply after my first year because the second year is really when the biomedical engineering courses start. Also, is it alright if I start college with Calculus I instead of Calculus II? In the BME major's description of the curriculum, freshman start with Calculus II.

  82. Well I applied for the fall 2013 semester as an entering 3rd year. It's mid May and if you all remember the first few week weeks after applying I am checking my common app almost every day, my mail box every day, and my sis every day. Every Day. I know this is eccentric and I know that results come at the end of April or early May. But UVA is my dream school so I was hoping for some help.

If you don't mind helping a worried applicant:

What were some gpas that transferred to UVA? Were you Nova? Were you instate? Were you out of state? Did you write some pretty awesome essays? Was there something you felt was different about your application?
