At some colleges and universities, students are required to live on-campus/on-grounds all four years. That is not the case here at UVA. Therefore, just because you are admitted as a transfer student, it doesn't mean that you are guaranteed housing. We've spoken with the housing department since reading the comments on the blog. There is a waiting list every year after housing fills the initial spots available for transfer admits. That being said, the housing department expects to have more than enough space on grounds for all transfer students who wish to live on grounds. It's just that first-year students (those coming straight out of high school) are the priority because that is the only time a student is required to live on grounds.
Housing therefore has to find space for them. I hope that clears up some confusion.
Just got off the housing waitlist a few minutes ago. Glad that it's already moving! I was also assigned my first choice.
ReplyDeletemann..im #30. transfermer how long is the waitlist now?
ReplyDeleteJust curious, I was doing some research and came across:
ReplyDeleteApplicants who have completed at least one full year of college study before entering the University are considered most competitive by the Committee on Admission. Since the University has no program for "visiting students," successful transfer applicants who enroll at U.Va. must spend at least two full years in residency at the University.
My question is whether living on campus is mandatory for transfer students if the space is available or do you still have an option to decline if you'd rather not?
Housing is NOT mandatory for transfers!
ReplyDeleteYou have an option to decline if you want to. I deceided that I wanted to live off grounds (I live behind the Corner). So it's what ever you want to do, I found people to live with through Facebook and ULoop if you want to live off ground.
ReplyDeleteWaitlist is moving!, I was just wondering what your first choice was? I'm now 11 on the housing waitlist, so I'm just curious about where they may have openings and such. Thanks! :)

ReplyDeleteI emailed housing and they said they will try to accommodate most requests but most of the openings are in copeley.
This is kind of off-topic, but how do I find out what my waitlist number for admission is? And if I get offered admission, is the offer sent by email, via the SIS website, or by regular mail?
ReplyDeleteMy contract came through on Monday for Copeley.
ReplyDeleteJonathan,
ReplyDeletethe wait list for admission is not ranked therefore I'm pretty sure you can't find out what number you are. And when you are offered admission it shows up on SIS and they follow it up with a letter.
Good luck!
Given the fact that I received an email telling me that I'm #5 on the wait-list, I think that it is ranked... unless that was a really clever joke.
ReplyDeleteSasha,
ReplyDeleteare you talking about the wait list for housing or admission? I know the wait list for housing is ranked, but when you are put on the wait list for actually being admitted to the university I didn't think it was ranked. I never got an e-mail telling me what rank I was when I was waitlisted for admission, but I did receive an e-mail about what number I was on the housing wait list after I was admitted and applied for housing. I think Jonathan is asking about the admission wait list, not the housing wait list. But I could be wrong!
hahaha no my bad, the admission wait-list is definitely not ranked. I have luckily forgotten about the admission wait-list and am now thinking housing.
ReplyDeleteQuestion? If the quickpay@UVA link is on my page and it keeps sending me to a page telling me how to pay my tuition and how to register as a fall transfer and telling me how to pay my bill am I accepted?
ReplyDeletedoes anyone want to switch a housing assignment?
ReplyDeleteAnon, it has possibilities. Which place do you have?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lauren. I was asking about the admissions waitlist.
ReplyDeletei have a dillard double room (female btw), but i wanted a single in gooch or dillard, just thought I'd try.
ReplyDeleteAh, I'm in Copeley, so that wouldn't help you out. Sorry and good luck.
ReplyDeleteI've got a Gooch Dillard assignment, but I'm a guy, so I don't think I can be much help, I mean, I'd give it to you if you can/want to live with other guys.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: I applied for housing, and I was definitely going to be put on the waitlist. However, for some reason, my classification was a 3rd year. I'm actually only a 2nd year, so I'm a little confused.
ReplyDeleteIs this something I should worry about?
Best,
J.
I was also listed as a third year by housing for what its worth.
ReplyDeleteEliot,
ReplyDeleteI guess they just automatically group all transfers in as 3rd years. I guess it helps since it gives us seniority.
Do you happen to know where you're on list? I think I might be like the very last person on it.
J.
i think many of them in the waiting list
ReplyDeleteGrandMarc at the Corner still has housing available for transfer students. They match you up with roommates also so you don't have to worry about that. It is in the heart of campus. Swimming pool, hot tub, fitness center, movie theater, internet cafe...... www.grandmarcuva.com

Transfermer: I was halfway down the waitlist, so I'm not sure about the other half, but my understanding is that most of the people who were offered housing from the waitlist were given rooms in copely (that is what they offered me a couple of weeks ago).
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to say whether the people farther down on the waitlist received housing, mainly because a good number of them probably looked into off-grounds housing and removed their name from the waitlist.
I hope this answers your questions.
Your blog is very good and helpful. I like it...
