Deadline is Tomorrow

As you all know, the transfer deadline is tomorrow March 1. The gateway will close at 11:59pm to be precise. But, don't wait until the last minute(literally)! Should there be a hitch in the submission process, you'll feel less stressed and you'll be able to fix whatever is necessary with time to spare. Good luck!

  1. I'm so anxious for May 1st to roll around, waiting is going to be nerve racking.

  2. Transfermer, it is March 1st at 12:02 AM. I submitted my required transfer essay at that time. Will that be a problem at all??? I'm really nervous.

I had to submit my essay later because i accidentally submitted my supplements application without attaching my required essay. Everything else has been submitted though.

  3. I FINISHED APPLYING.. and could not be more excited. Wishing you all good luck - God Bless.

  4. I am so nervous... This is my third time applying and I don't know what I am going to do if I don't get accepted again...

  5. UVAfan i think the deadline is March 1 at 11:59 pm, not Feb 28 11:59pm. So you are fine.
Oh and Transfermer regarding transcripts, I called the office friday about my predicament. My university account is on hold, and I cannot request my transcript til then so I cannot meet the March 1st deadline for transcript but they told me to send them asap. Will this effect my decision?

  6. abc,

I am in the same boat you are. This is my third time applying to UVA and this is my dream school. It's basically my last shot and I'm praying everyday that I get in. I'm crossing my fingers. Best of luck to all of us.

  7. Transfermer,

If I want to send in a professor recommendation after March 1st, is that possible? I have sent in my transcripts (HS and college), and will have submitted my application by today (March 1st).

    Thank you

  8. I submitted my Common App last night, but have yet to complete the UVA specific financial aid form. Will I be able to fill this form out online in time to meet the deadline? I'm waiting on conformation application receipt and a ID#, I think.

    Can someone calm my nerves?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I went to check to make sure my SAT scores have sent and so far it doesn't look like they have. Before I send them again, I just want to make sure that they are required as I have already applied once in the past year. Do I need to send them again?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Can anyone tell me why i have yet to receive an email from UVA regarding my application receipt and my UVA ID in order to login and check my application status???
is it because it takes transfers a bit longer to receiev this email or what?? just wondering since i'm a nervous wreck!

  11. The CommonApp website says that the deadline to submit the application is March 2nd. I will submit everything except my HS transcript and College Transcript today.

My College transcript has been processed today but will be postmarked for tomorrow, same for my HS transcript. Has anyone else noticed the deadline on CommonApp as March 2nd? Will it be a problem having the transcript postmarked for tomorrow?

  12. Hey KT,

I was wondering the same. But I believe that they said they would email us if they were missing anything else, like SAT scores. I too applied within the last year.

On a side note, wheres is everyone applying from?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Just to calm nerves, which we shouldn't have until April 30th, or so...

I am making spaghetti tonight, and was wondering if anyone else is a fan of a little dill sprinkled on garlic bread? I find it adds not only a little bit of mild flavor, but goes even further in making the bread a lot more visually appealing. What would you all put on garlic bread?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm applying from JMU.

I've never tried dill on garlic bread, but I might just have to try that. I think garlic bread in itself is delicious, but cheese makes anything better.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Does anyone else have the SAT still on their to do list?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Uvawhoos,
You should send it as soon as possible.

    Jd08,
That’s fine. It will probably make it to your file on time, but we can’t make any promises.

    BetterLate,
My understanding is that you’ll be able to apply for financial aid after March 1.

    KT,
You do not need to send them again. They will not show up until we match them with your archived application. This will take some time.

    UVAfan,
This usually takes a day. Please calm down. Please see note above concerning financial aid.

    Anon,
Yes, this is a discrepancy. I would be wary of sending anything out after tomorrow, March 2. I’ll get back to you on this later in the week.

    Sean,
Yes, we will email you if we are missing anything essential.

  17. Transfermer,

Will there be any way for rollover applicants to check their admission status online on May 1?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I could not submit my application because it said that I had not yet submitted payment, but I had submitted the payment. I am so confused! Also, the common application website says that the application is due on March 2nd. Why is there a discrepancy between these two sites?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm crying right now.

I couldn't submit my application because it kept saying my art supplement was incomplete. I paid the application fee and I've submitted the art supplement (recording, letter of recommendation, and music resume) through the mail.

I'm freaking out because I've tried to submit it several times.

    Please help me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anon App Payment,
    You should contact undergradadmission@virginia.edu

    Anon Art supplement,
You must go in and change your arts supplement status to "Yes, submitted via paper."

The deadline was extended through the day today, March 2.

  21. I spoke to my high school on January 25 to request my high school transcript. My UVA "TO DO List" still has high school transcript and official transcript listed...I know that it is stated that transcripts could take several weeks to be updated, but I am concerned that my high school dropped the ball.
I tried calling the admissions office this morning, but no one has answered.
    Do you have any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Transfermer,

Somewhat of a random question, but I really want to know because I find admissions to be very interesting. Since UVA receives tens of thousands of appliactions both for 1st year and for transfer applications how many admissions counselors are there? Are there ones that specifically read transfer's applications and ones that specifically read 1st year applications? Thanks!

  23. Hey all,

Would anyone mind posting their stats?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hey Transfermer,

I'm a transfer applicant and I was suspended for plagiarism in high school 5 years ago. I talked about it in one of my essays. I'm just worried you'll look at my application and deny me just because of that. Would a mistake like that 5 years ago still be given lots of consideration?

    Thanks,
    Worried about my past

  26. Sud and Abc, I'm worried too! And just like you, this is my third time applying.

Honestly though, what really matters is what you do once you're in school (wherever you end up).

My boss at work (VP at a financial institution) told me that if she was looking at a JMU student and a UVA student, if the JMU student had very competitive, she'd hire him/her over a UVA student with average grades.

Not trying to compare JMU to UVA...the point is, it's not all about the school.

    By the way Teapot,
I'm applying to JMU too. Are you a VCCS transfer like me?

  28. Hey Jay Bird,

I'm applying to Arts and Sciences.
Are you applying from a VCCS?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mg,
I just learned that the office is still entering mid-year reports for our first year applicants and will begin processing materials for transfers at the end of the week. Thanks for your patience. Yes, due to the weather, our office opened 30 mins late this morning.

    UVAfromJMU,
We have a staff of close to 15 full-timers who read the applications, first-year and transfer. Our support staff is even smaller and somehow we get it all done. We hire a handful of part-time readers during the busy season, but they do not read transfer applications.

    Worried,
We look at these issues on a case-by-case basis.

    ReplyDelete
  30. ****PLEASE do not post stats or comments requesting stats. We are trying to quell fears and answer questions, not create paranoia or competition. I'd sincerely appreciate it if you would not ask "stats" questions. ****

  31. Yeah, I'm applying from Northern Virginia Community College. Applied to McIntire :/

I'm surprised more high school students don't go the community college route. It's a great, affordable education and there are tons of great transfer programs to all of the Virginia universities.

    Jaybird

    ReplyDelete
  32. Another quick question -- if we applied to McIntire and aren't accepted, can we preemptively request to be considered for A&S as a backup?

    Jaybird

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jaybird, no, I'm at JMU now trying to get into UVA. If you end having to decide between the two, JMU really is a great school, just not the school for me. If you haven't visited yet, it's absolutely gorgeous especially with all this snow. :) Though again, nothing compared to UVA....ah, the nerves are jumping again.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Haha now you've got me all nervous again!

    asdfliuawlefnj.

Anywho, since I'm coming from VCCS I did non-binding guaranteed admission to JMU. Silly UVA doesn't have guaranteed admission (at least not to Commerce; they do have guaranteed admission to Arts & Sciences).

So yeah, I'd be happy for JMU, but I'd spontaneously combust with excitement if I got into McIntire @ UVA.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jaybird,
You could have mentioned this in your application. Assuming you've already submitted, you can send this request to us in an email.

Transfermer can tell that many of you have a snow day today!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have email the undergraduate admission office on this issue yesterday:

The submissions are successful for I have received two confirmation letter from the Common Application Website.

However when I checked My College paper, I found the supplement was said to be incomplete with the little yellow box.
I rechecked that supplement paper, and was pretty sure I have input everything I need there. I didn't fill out the Application for Virginia In-State Educational Privileges because I am not a Virginia state resident.

I checked my college paper on common application this morning and found the yellow box turn red triangle. However, when I rechecked right now, the yellow box is still on and I have no idea what is going on there

I am quite concerned about the issue, and afraid that the incomplete status might stop uploading the existing data of supplement form to your school sever.

  37. For those of you who are nervous about May 1st, remember: it'll be May 1st in no time!! You'll worry more about your final exams around that time than the U.Va application.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Chuck, your comment was lucid and your perspective, mature. I don't see how it fits in with our angst-fest here... :)

  39. Although exams will be top priority....UVA decisions come out before my exams. Either way, it's going to be a very, very long week, that first week of May. Bleh.

  40. Should we get a facebook group for people who want to transfer to talk and stuff? I know there will be one for people who get in, but would anyone want to do one now?

And yes, snow days are wonderful...Although that means a lot of unnecessary blog checks. :P

  41. I think that would be good idea Monarch =)

Let us know what you decide to call it so we can find it, if you decide to create one.

  42. Hi Transfermer,

I'm currently attending UC-Santa Barbara which runs on the quarter system rather than the semester system and our winter quarter is about to end (finals are from the 16-21 of March). My Fall quarter GPA wasn't where I would have liked it to be, but if I re-sent my transcripts with my new GPA after the grades are released could that potentially benefit my application? Or would it not even be looked at because it would be late?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Transfermer,

I submitted my application February 27th and have yet to receive my confirmation email from UVA. I have received a confirmation email from the Common App for my payment and the triangles are green on the site and says that my application has been downloaded, but still no email. Please help!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Transfermer,

I was told that because I took my SATs and ACTs more than 5 years ago I would not need to submit them. However, they are showing up on my "To Do List". Did I err? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Transfermer,
On the Transfer of Class Analyzer website, are those the ONLY classes that would transfer from our school or would others qualify as well?
Also, I called Admissions and asked this question a couple weeks ago but just to make sure... I can no longer access my ACT account because I changed my email last year when I got to school, but my high school counselor sent my scores on my transcript - is that enough? I was unable to fill out the scores section on my common app because of this also.

    Thanks
    egm

  46. To Chuck and TeapotMonarch: so true.

My exams are the week that follows the UVA decision. I know we can see our decisions online, but I don't actually know where specifically they will be posted, and I'm almost afraid to ask. I can't decide if I'd rather know my decision before I take my exams or after. It's all about the willpower baby!

Also, I just wanted to add that I really enjoy this blog a lot more than Peabody. Not that I don't like Dean J, but I feel like the general aura that surrounds that blog is just very...negative. The people here are much nicer. I guess it's just maturity?

Well anyways, I wish you all the best!

  47. Transfermer, or anyone with prior knowledge
One of my professors sent her recommendation for me today (03/3) Will admissions still accept her letter of recommendation for me although it's 1 day after the deadline. She told me UVA and other universities are not exactly drop dead on deadline. Let me know, thanks!!

  48. I am so glad I went through the guaranteed admission route. It helps ease the nerves a bit lol.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hi, I was wondering if gen ed classes could count towards two requirements?

For example, I am currently in Anthropology which counts as a humanities and a non-western perspective. Will it count for both or would I have to take another course to fulfill one?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Smiles, I definitely agree with your comment about the positive nature of this blog. I probably can't speak for everyone, but I know being denied twice from UVA has made me more aware of people's feelings and the need to be positive and supportive as opposed to competitive and asking for people's "stats", which just foster animosity toward one another.

Egm, not sure about the answer to your second question, but regarding your first question, I chatted with someone at the Office of Undergraduate Admission and they said that with very few exceptions, if a class isn't listed on the transfer credit analyzer, it isn't transferable.

For example my required PED116 class (Health & Wellness) from VCCS doesn't transfer, nor does my SDV107 class (Career Development). If you've got a special situation you might try calling and talking to the college you're applying to.

  54. transfermer,

Any reason that on my to-do list it says my common application supplement has been initiated, but common application isn't on there? Something to do with financial aid?

    Thanks

  55. Oh Liz,

You'll be able to do this once you get the email instructing you to get into the Student Information System.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Transfermer,

I received the email with my ID, but when I go on the website it says that I still need to submit my supplement. I then logged on to the common app site it has a yellow square next to it but it also says submitted 3/1. Am i missing something?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Shx5,
Hopefully everything turned over properly overnight.

    Elena,
Send the new grades. We’ll add them to your application, but I can’t promise it will have an effect on your application.

    Nmitch,
As you can see, there are many worried applicants. From what I can gather from different departments, it’s taking longer for some applications to move through the Peoplesoft system. Please wait a few more days.

    Arcadia,
It is standard for SATs to show up for everyone because it is a required component. If you took the SATs, you should submit them. We are more lenient with prospectives who graduated from hs more than five years ago and never took the test. If you have them, submit them.

    Egm,
It doesn’t necessarily list all of the courses. Others might transfer. In most cases, general courses will easily transfer. Others will take a little more work on your part. For instance, you might have to show a syllabus of a certain class at orientation in order to get approval. Thanks for your help Jaybird. Right, PE classes and Orientation courses are specifically tailored to specific schools and will not transfer. But say, if a history course is not listed there, you can’t be too quick to think that it won’t transfer.

    Jaybird,
I appreciate your help and I’m sorry it takes me time to get back to blog some days, but I’ll answer the questions.

    Smiles,
You can check the decision by starting at the SIS page. This is the way we’ve released decisions for years – decisions before finals. It goes without saying that you want to do well this semester and on your finals, for you, your status at your current school, and your future prospects if you are admitted to UVA.

    UVAfan,
    That’s fine.

    Teapot,
Courses can count for two area requirements. Please go here and scroll down to AREA REQUIREMENTS, http://records.ureg.virginia.edu/preview_entity.php?catoid=17&ent_oid=882&bc=1

    joecool,
This doesn't show up on purpose.

NOVAlove, try and submit it again.

Can you comment on this as it applies to VCC students?

"Fall 2009 transfer applicants are required to submit course descriptions... for all collegiate courses completed or in progress."

I'm at NVCC and wonder if this is necessary, since the courses offered here tend to have curriculum that closely mirror class offerings at Virginia state universities (not to mention that you guys repetitively deal with a substantial number of VCC applicants that have similar coursework).

    Please advise.

    ReplyDelete
  59. If you are VCCS, you don't need to submit course descriptions.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Transfermer,

It will not let me submit it again, and I also have the verification email that reads:
    Dear,

Congratulations! You've successfully submitted a supplemental form to the following:

    University of Virginia.

Is there anything else I can do?

    ReplyDelete
  61. You all need to quit asking so many ridiculous questions. Read the website. Everything is pretty much answered there. It would probably be better if the applicants asked questions that are not answered on the website, questions that are probably specific - not questions about your SAT scores.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks, Transfermer! That's exciting news. :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Transfermer...

I know you probably have already answered this previously, but why is it that when i login to the UVA SIS it shows on my 'To do list' that i have not submitted my Common Application Supplement?? I submitted that 2 weeks ago. I also submitted my HS Transcript and My Official Transcript. THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm having the same problem as NOVAlove. I submitted my supplement 2/27 and it says downloaded 2/27. The triangle was green until today when I logged into my SIS account. It says common application supplement on my TO-DO list and there's now a yellow triangle on my common application page. What's up? Can I do anything? Everything was fine until today.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Transfermer,

My triangles are all green and it says "downloaded" for application and supplement and "submitted" for payment, but I haven't received an email confirmation and have no access to SIS. Should I be worried, or just give it some time?

    ReplyDelete
  66. I rolled over my application to the Fall of 2009 from the Spring of 2009 when I didn't get in. Should I send a new high school transcript, SAT scores, and such? Because the SIS tells me I have not submitted those things and my college official transcript which I have already sent. Or does it just take time to process all these things? Should I send these once more? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  67. transfermer...
is it possible for you to provide the number of transfers applying this year(specifically roll over students), and how many u.va is going to accept?

    ReplyDelete
  68. For people worrying about their To-Do List in SIS, remember that it takes time for the people in the Office of Undergraduate Admission to process all of your transcripts. So if you see in the To-Do List that you need to submit transcripts, etc... Don't worry about it! If a transcript is missing, the people in the Office of Undergraduate Admission will contact you in order to obtain the missing transcripts.
    Jason H,
I think that you only need to send an updated college transcript. You don't need to send your high school grades again since the Office already has them.
    uvauvauva,
If I were you, I would not be asking for statistics. It is going to make you more and more nervous if Transfermer releases the numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  69. NOVAlove,
    That should do it.

    UVAfan,
I addressed this in a roundabout way. From what I can tell, some of your supplements are still in processing. We are beginning to sift through these issues. If you find this is still the case next week, you may call the office.

    Uvauva,
We are still tabulating these numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hello Transfermer,
I had asked my professors to send me email confirmations upon submission of their recommendation letters, which they did. As I'm sure that you are aware, application items have the potenital to become lost in transit. I asked this of my teachers so that I could confirm with the school that they did in fact receive my recommendations. Since I know which teacher recommendations uva should have with my app.materials is there anyway to confirm this with the school?
    ~Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Anon,

We do not confirm receipt of recommendations for privacy concerns. Email is probably the safest way, so I'm pretty sure it will get to you file.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hey Trans...
They were actually faxed. Also, It is my understanding that U.Va. will waive the SAT requirement automatically for individuals that have been out of HS for more than 5 yrs., which I have. if accepted I would be transfering in as a junior. On my people soft it says that they need for me to submit my SAT or ACT scores. I already submitted documentation to be put with my app. of my communication with the school concerning an SAT waiver where they told me that, its automatic that they waive them. Should I contact them concerning their request for SAT scores or just let them figure it out on there own?
btw: I was home schooled and never took SAT's just went on to VCC.
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hi Trans.
Under SAT/HS/College transcripts it says initiated. Does this imply that UVa. has received my documentation and is processing it, or does it mean that they haven't received it at all? Just curious.
    ~Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  74. So if Intiated means "you've applied and it's waiting for the component to be processed". I can only assume that this means uva has physically received the documentation but has not gotten around to processing it? Am I correct?

    ReplyDelete
  75. I’m sorry, but again we do not confirm receipt of recommendations.
Please review the blog for information about the SATs. The SAT/ACT slot will appear for everyone. It will be blank for you, but eventually your application will be read without it.

Initiated appears once your application has been submitted. Initiated will go away once your materials are processed. It is unknown whether or not your document is here, but as I said, we’ve just started processing these after working on first-year processing.
