Decision Letters

Decision letters for transfer applicants for the Spring of 09 will be mailed this evening.
As I've mentioned in previous posts, you won't be able to check your status online, so I'll repeat, no decisions online. The letter should arrive early next week. We will not give decisions out over the phone. If you are admitted, the letter will contain instructions on what your next step will be, should you decide to attend. If you are not offered, and you are not in the middle of your junior year at a four-year school, you should find instructions on "rolling over" your application for Fall consideration.

I'll take this time to thank you for submitting your applications. We had an increase in the number of apps this semester, and as you know spring is already tight. We hope that whatever the decision, you'll understand that we spent a significant amount of time considering the time and hard work you put into your application.

Happy Thanksgiving All!

  1. AWESOME! Great news that the letters are going out so soon. It is making me a little nervous before the holiday. It's a shame that we are unable to call in, which would be amazing, but thanks for releasing the letters early!

  2. Hi transfermer, is it possible for you to tell me how many applied this spring, how many were eligible, and how many got accepted? specifically from community college?

    ReplyDelete
  3. It was addressed before that 300 applied, 30-40 are accepted, and roughly 1/3 are taken from community colleges.

  4. I am so anxious, yet hopeful...I was one of those waitlisted during my first attempt as a freshman candidate. The odds are pretty long, but I remain steadfast in my determination to attend UVA (and I'm sure many of you feel the same way).

Best of luck to all the other applicants! :)

  5. To future applicants:

Grades matter the most, so do scores. Extracurricular activities and a job don't mean shit, neither do clubs. So what helps in the decision between two applicants that both have good grades and scores?

Well, for a school that is a wannabe Ivy with a complex, what matters most is your income and a legacy (reverse affirmative action. Make sure that when you apply, that you aren't poor.

Think about it people. We are transfers, we are not really needed, so why not get someone that you don't have to give aid to or that, even better, may give you more money.

This whole process is bullshit. I am sure lots of you are going to be severely disappointed, feeling cheated, don't feel cheated and just move on. There are many factors that come to play here that you have no clue about.

I know lots of UVa kids, I am sure some are smart but most of them are pricks and they think they are better than you. The average grade at UVa is a B, that means you don't have to try to hard to do OK. Just do alright where you are right now and go somewhere else for grad school, in the real world, nobody cares about your BA/BS degree.

  6. I feel/think the same way. I just don't understand why I didn't get in. No matter how hard I try, it's impossible. I have 3.9gpa, have 61 credits, work 5 hours a day 5 days a week, and yet I got denied twice by U.va. If person like me can't get in, who can?

  7. Yeah, this is exactly what I meant. If there is anything I regret, it is applying to UVa so many times. Me and you both, lets just keep our great GPAs. By the sound of how you are doing you are probably better than this school, UVa is too stuck up its own as.

  8. ass*

Like I said, nobody gives a damn about where your BA/BS is from (especially considering the economy), by the looks of your GPA (3.9) and mine (3.8) we will probably do just fine without the UVa stamp of pretentiousness.

  10. Please control your language, you don't need to curse in this blog. Honestly, people want to transfer to UVA because they are interested in something offered at the University. For my case, UVA is one of the only two universities in Virginia that offer a major that I am really interested in.

  11. I was waitlisted my first time around applying as a senior in high school. Unfortunatley, I was not taken off the waitlist and I am now at JMU doing very well, but still applying to transfer for my second year. UVA is a very prestigous school that only has a limited number of spots open for applicants out of high school and transfer applicants especially transfers for the spring semester. I know it is very discouraging receiving a letter saying that you have been rejected from your dream, but everything happens for a reason and the language that was used is clearly not only unnecessary, but it illistrates poor character that UVA would not like its students to represent. You'll do fine at your school with a 3.9, 3.8, apply to attend UVA for graduate school if your heart so desires -- but please don't come on here cursing and downing UVA.///

    Transferemer --

What was the average GPA for those accepted and what typically is the average transfer GPA for second year applicants in-state? Thanks-

    to clear my question up

What was the average GPA this time for spring applications and typically what is the average GPA *(college and high school) for those applying as second-year fall transfers?
Thank you for all that you do!

  13. I have many questions to ask regarding on what to do for fall 09 application. Which e-mail can I send questions to?

  14. so I am guessing some people have found out already???

  15. I was offered acceptance for Spring 2009, and to say I'm not excited as heck would be lying. I had applied as a first-year in 2007 and was subsequently waitlisted. Second time's the charm, I guess...

I don't think that Anonymous's comment that "what matters most is your income and a legacy" is accurate. My family has an very average income, and my sister and I are the first in our family to even ATTEND college, let alone be "legacies".

Honestly, there are many applicants who deserve admissions offers, but there are only a few spaces open for a lot of people. It's a numbers game; try not to take it personally (I know that's hard advice to follow). There are plenty of schools to be successful at, and with the 3.8+ GPAs many of you boast, I'm certain you have bright academic futures.

  16. I was offered admission, and trust me, I know the feeling of being rejected. I was rejected twice my senior year. Yeah, twice, once for early decision and once for regular admissions. I am excited, and I know it hurts, but I turned down other four-year universities to transfer into UVA from VCCS, so those who are complaining and are at a four-year, you have to understand that others have made greater sacrifices for that "UVA Stamp of Approval" for those who keep talking down about the University. Though all rejections, I remained hopeful, and knew UVA was where I wanted to go. Not once did I down UVA, so those who are talking negatively about that University do not deserve the honor that comes with the University.

  18. Readers,

Thank you for your comments. We realize those who were not offered admission may be dissapointed to hear the news. But we ask that you be respectful on the blog. It may be cathartic to let out your anger, but this is not really the forum in which to do it.

We take our jobs very seriously and we're limited to admitted only a small amount of students. We received a large number of incredible applications and unfortunately, we weren't able to offer to everyone. I know that things come out in the heat of the moment, but the accusations in some of the comments are simply not true. We pride ourselves on our racial, geographical and economic diversity. We are clearly a state institution; not "a wannabe Ivy." In a school with 13,000 undergrads, it would be hard to characterize everyone as elitist and "stuck up." Transfers are an integral part of each year's class. The number of transfers admitted are not based upon the number of current UVA students who drop out. Every year(spring and fall), 600 students transfer to the University. I think most of you would agree that this is a significant amount of people, and in no way a group of people "that is not needed." Transfers quickly become a part of the student body who bring new perspectives and ideas to the University. Again, I am sorry that we could not offer to everyone and we would appreciate it if you could keep negative comments off of the blog.

  19. To current students: Please do not post advertisements for vacancies. Offered students are told about off-grounds housing. Please post your ads there.

  21. Hey fellow transfers!!! Congrats to all who were accepted! There is a Facebook group you may want to join called Spring 2009 UVA Transfer Students.

  22. Hey everyone! Congrats to every one accepted!!! See you around grounds!!! If you would like to take a tour of the dorm on grounds that most transfers live in, I have a friend who is a current student at UVA that is willing to give you a tour and answer any questions you may have about living on grounds. Just shoot any questions you have to vaisforrunners@aol.com .

  23. If accepted for the Spring, is it possible to delay entrance into the University until the Summer session. I would be transfering into the College of Arts and Sciences reguardless of whether I transfer mid-year as a sophmore or at the beginning of my junior year.

  28. Transfermer...

if i'm at the beginning of my junior year at a four-year-university as a transfer student for the Spring 09, would it be possible for me to apply to the college of arts and scinences or McIntire school for the Fall 09?

    ReplyDelete
  29. hopeUVA,

The only way you would be eligible is if you didn't attend classes in the spring semester. I do not recommend this route. You'd be putting too many eggs in one basket. Unfortunately, when you're approaching the middle/end of your junior year, we'd recommend that you finish at your current school and look to us for grad school.

  30. Hey all you transfers who got in! Are any of you staying on-grounds? Have you applied to live on grounds yet? Could you e-mail me (vadelsen@gmail.com) and let me know when the deadline is for that and when move-in day is? Thanks so much!(I don't check this blog thing a lot).

  31. Transfermer,
I didn't get my letter in the mail yet...and believe me, I've been checking everyday. Shall I just assume that I haven't been accepted?

  34. Hey there, we in APPresto launched to help people create apps in a faster and easier way.
Today 91% of the adult population is using smartphones to get information about businesses,
but only 8% of companies can provide quality mobile app for their costumers. Be modern. Get what you want faster.
