Readers,
If you are thinking of applying to transfer for the spring, the deadline is November 1. That gives you 9 days! Please read!
-We are on the common app. Find the application here at http://www.commonapp.org/
-Read everything on our page www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/transfer.html and the common application website.
-We only accept students in the spring for the College of Arts and Sciences and Architectural History.
-An applicant's high school transcript and testing are required.
-We recommend recommendations, but they are not required.
-Regarding question #2 on the UVA supplement part of the common application: If you did not take off time in between semesters or in between high school and college, do not worry about filling out this essay.
-We will release decisions only by mail. You are either offered admission or not offered admission. There is no wait list in the spring.
-Unfortunately, you will not be able see if transcripts and materials have come to the office.
-But, we will contact you if something essential is missing so long as you have clicked submit on the application.
Good luck!
Decisions will be mailed before we have our fall grades (at least at my school). Decisions are out by beginning of December, before I have even started finals in the fall.
ReplyDeleteMy question is this: when will we know, assuming we have been accepted, how many of our credits will transfer? And by when will we have to accept or decline, if we have been accepted.
I would like to make an informed decision and would like to accept or decline an admittance after I have seen my final grades for this semester.
-Nik
It is understood that you will be finishing up your fall semester as the decisions come out.
ReplyDeleteEvaulations of credit are released by the College of Arts and Sciences in mid-December. We ask that you reply to our offer of admission about 10-14 days after receiving the letter.
If you need to see what will transfer, please check the Transfer Credit Analyzer for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Do extracurricular activities will play an important factor for the transfer application?
ReplyDelete-UVAhopeful
Oops, it should have been "Will extracurricular activities play an important factor for the transfer application" I made a big typo -UVAhopeful
ReplyDeleteYes, anon, we do look at extracurricular activities, but course selection and grades are most important.
ReplyDelete1)do I have to send supplement by mail? or does www.commonapp.org offer supp. as well?
ReplyDelete2)is there any chance that decisions will be mailed earlier than the actual decision releasing date?
Thank you.
The UVA admissions supplement is embedded within your common application.
ReplyDeleteDecember 1 is the notification date.
Is there a specific address to which I should have my college/high school mail my transcripts?
ReplyDeleteIs it recommended to attach a resume to my application and if so, how do I attach it?
ReplyDeleteNo, you do not need to send us a resume. We feel the questions concerning your extracurricular activities or your possible time off from school will answer these questions.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to contact the adviser I listed on my application?
ReplyDeletePreviously, I have applied to UVA as a transfer applicant. Then should I only send my updated college transcripts or should I send my high school transcript, college transcrimpt and other supplements again?
ReplyDeleteThank you.
In most cases, we will not contact the advisor, but we will if necessary.
ReplyDeleteIf you have applied as a _transfer_ previously, you will not have to send another high school transcript.
Dear Transfermer,
ReplyDeleteDespite writing our objectives and goals to achieve at UVA, does the admission board look at how much time you put in the personal essay?
From what I understand, transfer students that are applying need to submit a secondary school report. But here is the problem for my situation, the high school that I previously attended has a different college counselor now and there is a section on the secondary school report where it is written, "I recommend this student: with no basis, with reservations, fairly strongly, strongly, or enthusiastically" so this puts me at disadvantage because the counselor does not know me at all. So here is my question, since I am applying as a transfer student (I tried to apply as a first-year but was waitlisted and ultimately rejected), will you look into my previous application for the evaluation of the high school counselor at that time?

Anon on 10/28, I'm not sure I understand your question. We take the essays very seriously as transfers we don't have interviews and this your last chance to tell us who you are.
ReplyDeleteFor TRANSFER APPLICANTS, the Secondary School Report and Counselor's Official Report is not necessary. The instructor evaluation is recommended, but not required.
Do admission officers expect transfer applicants to have completed the First Writing requirement before admission or can it be completed at UVA? Also, what is it meant by "first-year transfer students are considered most competitive"? Thanks for answering everything by the way.
ReplyDelete-Chuck
Chuck,
ReplyDeleteWe expect that the first writing requirement be completed before entering UVA.
Re: "First year transfers," you must be referencing something on the website? I can tell you that it is slightly more difficult to get in as a transfer after the first year rather than the second year, but otherwise I'd have to see the context to get the gist of your question.
Are there chances for me to be accepted even though I do not complete the first writing requirement before entering UVA?
ReplyDelete-Chuck
"Applicants who have completed at least one full year of college study before entering the University are considered most competitive by the Committee on Admission" this is what is written on the website. So can you clarify what it is meant by "most competitive" in this case?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I read this on the English Department website about the first writing requirement, "The goals of first-year writing courses at other universities vary widely. Therefore, although transfer course credit may be granted, exemption from UVAs first writing requirement is *not* automatically given to students who have completed a writing or composition course elsewhere." So does it mean that there is still a possibility that a first-year transfer applicant can be accepted even though he/she did not complete the first writing requirement and complete the requirement at UVA?
Chuck,
ReplyDeleteEnglish Composition along with Math, Science, and foreign language are the cornerstones of many universities' area requirements. We hope that you will complete these because students usually take these classes(or are exempt) in the first year. In some minor cases, the way a course is taught elsewhere makes the course non-transferable. This is very rare. The bottom line is that the more of the area requirements you have under your belt, the more competitive you will be in the process.
The key phrase in your other question is "at least." This simply states that a student who has at least one year (which is student in their second semester of full-time schooling) is going to be competitive. You cannot apply for spring during your first semester of college for this reason. And the more credit you have, the more competitive you will be. The one-year rule is simply a minimum to set as your goal. If you need any more help with this question, please call the office of admission at 434-982-3200 and ask to speak to the Dean of the Day. Perhaps, an in-person answer would clarify the confusion.
Thanks for the clarification!

How many people applied for spring admissions this year?
ReplyDeleteDear Transfermer,
ReplyDeleteI forgot to send in my SAT scores. Send them ASAP? Or am I screwed?
P
How big of a role will a double legacy play for a transfer student compared to normal application? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteTo the above comment.
ReplyDeleteThat is sort of stupid. Legacies are supposed to play no role. But then again, when you are trying really hard to become an ivy school, nothing does it as well as some reverse affirmative action!
=)
P, they might be included on your high school transcript. If not you can have them sent to us.
ReplyDeleteApplicants who are children of alumni receive a slight bump in the admissions process. Slight, being the operative word. It is never a surefire path to admission.
