Should I take the SAT or the ACT? What about the TOEFL?

We in the admission office just bid farewell to today's open house visitors. We saw a great group. Let me emphasize that if you couldn't make it, you may visit and/or come to classes at any time. Just check our website for more details.

We covered lots of information and testing is always an important question. Here are some guidelines.

-We do require transfer applicants to take the SAT or the ACT.
-If your native language is not English, you make take the TOEFL in place of the SAT/ACT.
-However, if you have been out of high school for more than five years, we tend to waive the testing requirement.
- If you are a VCCS student and plan on transferring under the guaranteed agreement, you must have a complete application to be eligible. A complete application includes testing. No matter when you graduated from high school, you must take the SAT or ACT, and if your native language is not English, you may take the TOEFL instead.

For transfers, while they are required, test scores play a minor role in the application process. We are looking more at your courses and grades(college and hs). It's important to keep this in mind when considering UVA.
