Supplement Essay Question for Spring Applicants

This is getting into the nitty-gritty of the filling out the application, but I've been getting a lot of questions about this essay topic. You can find it in the transfer common app supplement.

2. Describe your activities during periods of time (other than summer vacations) when you were not enrolled in college.

Just so it's clear, this is a question for a student who has taken off time in between their years of school. It may be after high school or in the middle of college. Please don't interpret it to mean that you must take time off at some point during college. This question is more for our non-traditional student applicants. If it doesn't apply to you, meaning you've been in school consistently with the exception of summer vacations, simply type, "N/A" in the space. I hope that clears it up :)

Hey! I notice you answer pretty much all questions that are asked! I was wondering how much does an art supplement help an applicant of getting in? I'm a Political Science/Art Student, so i will be submitting the 10 minute video of my art work. Will this boost my chances?

An art supplement will not make or break your chances, but it is unique aspect of yourself that you can add to your application. Unfortunately, we do not accept videos of artwork. Please see our website for submission instructions.

Oh, and business is a little slow on here. Hence, my answering most of your questions :)

Thanks for the answers! Maybe i misunderstood the directions but it says to "Provide a web address where member institutions can view or listen to a 10-
minute sample of your work that demonstrates contrasting examples of expression
and technique." Does this mean something different than i thought?

After we send all the application material, is there any way we can find out whether our admission file is complete? I think I read that we should not phone the admission office regarding this and that there will be no online tracking for Spring 09 transfers.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, I've already submitted my application, and I have not taken any time off from school, so I think I just left that question blank. Will that be okay? What should I do?

Anon,

Please see my Oct 14 post if you haven't yet seen it.

Hootoo,

As I described, we are not at a place to show what's been recieved. However, we will contact you if something is missing.

Amanda,

Blank is just fine.

Regarding the Supplement, "Required Essays for Transfer Applicants Only" question #1 - I listed "undecided" on my application for the possible career or professional plans question but I am not undecided about my major (English), so I am not really sure how to address this essay. The topic for this essay is very similar to the topic for essay on the common application itself. Is this meant to be a 2nd stand alone essay? Why is a 2nd essay required for transfer applicants?

Anon,

Please answer the essay question to the best of your ability. Why do you perhaps want to study English?

Please complete all essays.
