Spring 2023 Transfer Decisions

The time has come!  Transfer decisions for the spring 2023 semester will be released this evening (11/18). I don’t know exactly what time, but our team is working hard to make sure they go out. However, once they’re released, you'll be notified via email, and the decision itself will be viewable on your MyUVA Application Portal. Keep in mind: For spring transfer, there is no wait list process (except for the small BSN program cohort). You will either be admitted or not.

Please do not call our office to ask for your decision. We do not give those out over the phone. If you don't remember your portal login information, check your application submission confirmation email.

If you are admitted, you will have until December 15th to accept the offer. If you matriculate, you will receive follow-up steps after the December 15th deadline passes.

If you were not admitted, you may have the opportunity to "roll over" your application for fall 2023 consideration. For this option, please follow the directions in your online letter.  NOTE: This option is not available for students who are entering their sixth semester at a four-year institution (not a community college) next spring. Unfortunately, students entering their sixth semester are no longer eligible to transfer to UVA. Nevertheless, our graduate schools would look forward to reading your applications in the future.

I hope this helps detail how extremely competitive the spring transfer process is. Please do not be too discouraged if you were not admitted. We see a much larger applicant pool for our fall transfer admission process (we enroll about 700 students usually then), and we are happy to roll over your spring application for fall consideration if you follow the instructions in your MyUVA Application Portal.

Fall Transfer Waitlist is Now Closed

Hello,

As of now, the fall transfer waitlist is closed. If you were on the waitlist, you should have received notification by both email and your MyUVA Application Portal. We appreciate your patience with this process. As usual, there were more qualified applicants than available spots, and we understand the disappointment many of you feel by not being offered.

However, we hope you are excited to move forward with other options. And, if you are still interested in UVA, the spring transfer process begins this fall, as applications are due on October 2. For more information about the spring transfer process, please consult https://admission.virginia.edu/admission/transfer.

Keep in mind that spring transfer only applies to the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Architecture’s Architectural History and Urban and Environmental Planning programs. Students who plan to apply for spring transfer must have earned at least 24 credit hours by the end of this fall’s semester.

Fall Transfer Waitlist Update

Hello everyone,

Waitlist offers for the fall transfer class will be going out sometime late this week or early next week. There are not very many spots - I do not have the exact numbers for any school, but I wanted to get that general info out there ASAP. The yield rate has been quite high so I don't anticipate as many offers being made off the waitlist as in usual summers. 

I know this is disappointing news to hear, but better to know as much as possible as soon as possible. We would like to conclude the waitlist process as early in the summer as possible so that you have more time to weigh your other options for the fall if you are not admitted in our review.

If you are offered from the waitlist, please pay attention to your deposit deadline when you're notified - the turn around time is fairly quick.

Transfer Release is this Evening

 Hello Everyone!

Thank you for your patience while waiting for our office to finish up the review process for this enrollment cycle. I'm excited to let you all know that we will be releasing decisions electronically tonight. If you applied, you will get a notification saying there is an update to your application status - check your student portal for your decisions!

Please pay attention to the deposit deadline and instructions in that notification. If you're waiting for a financial aid award before making your decision, those should be out soon, but we will never expect you to make the decision without the award information - so in a couple of weeks if you're still waiting on the financial aid offer, let us know and we will extend your deadline to deposit.

FAQs:

-I'll have statistics out soon for the class, it was a record number of applications I believe

-If you are waitlisted (or admitted), make sure to send your final spring transcript (if you're currently in courses) as soon as it is available. Waitlist decisions won't go out until late May at the earliest - likely June. 

-If you were denied, do know that this is an extremely competitive process with a limited amount of space - unfortunately the nature of selective admissions is we have to deny (or waitlist) really strong candidates every year. If you'll be applying next admission cycle, keep following the course recommendations - those (and grades) are almost always the reason a student isn't admitted.

April 1st Financial Aid Deadline

 APRIL 1 Financial Aid Deadline!

Need-based financial aid (which is an option for Permanent Residents and U.S. Citizens) is just as available for transfers as it is for first-year applicants. 

This serves as your reminder for the April 1 deadline.  Student Financial Services (SFS) is very strict about this deadline. They require TWO forms in order to properly apply for aid.  Please don't fill out the FAFSA and assume you have completed the task.  We also require something called the CSS Profile.  So again, we require both the FASFA and the CSS Profile.  If you don't comply by this deadline, you may miss out on some great state and UVa aid.

Almost March 1st!

 Hello everyone,

If you're still waiting on completing the Common Application for this fall's admission cycle, make sure you've got that sent in by the end of the day on March 1st. You may still be waiting for external documents like high school transcripts or a letter of recommendation - those you will have at least a couple of weeks of leeway with - but the Common Application itself needs to be in by the deadline. 

We are still in the thick of our first year application review process here in the Office of Admission (we received over 50,000 applications this year for that process!), so we won't be transitioning to transfer reading for a couple of weeks at least. 

Some last minute FAQs:

-The addresses for sending external materials are all listed over here on the right --->

-You can self report any testing you would like considered (including AP scores), but remember you'll need to send in official test reports if you are admitted and choose to attend UVA.

-You can always add supplemental updates to your application automatically by adding them via your student portal (before or after March 1st). 

-I won't have statistics on this process for a long while, but will get some #s out for you all when I get them!

Application Deadline is Approaching

Hello everyone,

As the deadline approaches, you might have questions about the mechanics of applying if this is your first time going through the process.

Here goes:   After you submit your application in Common App, you should receive an automatic confirmation.  Take note that only paying the application fee does not mean you have submitted.  You need to submit the general app and the UVa section in addition to your fee. 

Here are the answers to some other common questions and concerns:

-How do I handle the forms on the Common App?  Once again, we do not require the Common App forms listed in the right sidebar of the blog.  Yes, look over to the right, after you read this.  If you choose to send a Mid-Year Report, it would make more sense to wait until after the deadline and after your mid-term exams.  This is the only component of the app where I am encouraging late submission. 

-What happens if my transcripts arrive after March 1?  That’s fine, but we need your transcripts in the very near future, not at the end of the spring semester.  You and your fellow applicants are being reviewed based upon the work you have done thus far.  What’s most important is that you apply by the deadline of March 1. If your application is in on time, there is a little wiggle room for gathering these supporting documents.

-Do I need to submit AP/SAT/ACT scores? If you would like any scores to be considered, you can self report those scores - but they are totally optional. The one exception to this is if you attended a non-english speaking high school, you should submit some language proficiency testing (ACT, SAT, IELTS, or TOEFL). If you would like AP or IB scores to be reviewed, you can self report those (or if they are already listed on your high school transcript that is fine). BUT, if you would like those AP/IB scores to award you credit at UVA, we will need the official score report before you enroll.

As you begin to finalize your course selection for this spring semester -  keep an eye on the pre-requisite courses we've listed on our website.  Remember that if you're applying to the College of Arts and Sciences, the math, science, and foreign language pre-requisites are extensive.  If you haven't taken any of these courses, we suggest you sign up and start taking off a bite off of them this spring.

If you'll be applying as an incoming 2nd year student, remember we're not looking for every listed course requirement to be completed - but it would be beneficial to spread around your course selections (take one history, one math, one social science, etc...in addition to your english and foreign language)
